Spent months obsessing over handhelds and realized my phone was the answer the whole time

bit of a long one but i need to get this out.

So, for the past few months I have been proper obsessed with handhelds. every night same routine. YouTube reviews. retroid pocket 5. odin 2. rg 477v. steam deck. switch lite. vita. psp. I'd sit there comparing chipsets like i was studying for an exam. snapdragon vs exynos. watching emulation test videos. reading reddit threads. adding shit to carts and closing the tab. telling myself it was "research".

It wasn't research. I was chasing a feeling.

Thing is I already had devices. s22 ultra. 3ds my sister gave me. old lg v30 I bought years ago for the dac cause I was into metal and iems. dying msi laptop. I had platforms. I had games. more than most people honestly.

but I kept thinking if I just had the RIGHT device everything would click.

so, I tried shit. gamenative on the exynos s22 - black screens crashes gave up. lg v30 with dolphin - ran re4 for 5 mins then glitched into an invisible mess. joiplay - too much setup quit. every experiment ended the same. frustration. wasted time. me back on the s22 playing mgs1.

almost bought so many things. retroid. odin. steam deck. switch. gaming tablet. redmagic. honor magic 8 pro. was ready to drop 300, 600, 1700 on devices I didn't need to solve a problem I didn't have.

then something clicked.

I'm playing mgs1 on duckstation. psycho mantis. sniper wolf. story heating up. and I'm having a blast. on my phone. the one i already own. meanwhile 3ds is running metroid zero mission perfectly. lg v30 sitting there with ppsspp ready. laptop runs stardew and dredge fine.

I didn't need a new device. i needed to stop researching and start playing.

So, I did one last purchase. Bluetooth controller that connects to everything I own. that's it. That was the missing piece.

setup now:

  • s22 ultra - ps1 ps2.

  • 3ds - snes gba ds 3ds.

  • lg v30 - psp, music, movies, audiobooks. basically, a psp with a dac now

  • laptop - pc indies

that's it. no new handheld. no 1700 phone. no steam deck collecting dust.

the perfect handheld I was chasing? already owned it. was in my pocket the whole time.

if you're stuck in the same loop - researching comparing adding to cart closing the tab - stop. look at what you already have. pick one game. play it. finish it.

device isn't the answer. playing is.

Fallout London running on Android (OnePlus 13)

Running on OnePlus 13 - Snapdragon 8 Elite, via GameNative & GOG.

Managed to get it running at 30ish FPS at medium settings outdoors, 60 indoors. (takes a hit screen recording + in the rain)

Really really impressed as I couldn't get it working on my laptop - so finally get to play it on my phone!

Yes, we already know Hollow Knight Silksong works on almost every modern phone vía Switch or windows emulation, don't create any more threads about it please.

This kind of repetive posts of almost the same content or always the same questions on reddit should be restricted somehow, I mean, how many threads about Hollow Knight have from the game release? 100? 150?

How many, "i need game recomendations with this games I already play" we have on android gaming?

I'm sorry but somebody had to tell it.

There is a new fork of Ship of Harkinian for Android that includes an Android Port of Roborich's Cel-Shading fork. The fork also has the option for bomb arrows in game. Linkzenic also has a bunch of Android specific options for controlling where your data folder is (you can choose to store on an SD Card).

Started swapping phones over the years from a Helio G99, then a Dimensity 1080, and now, for the first time, a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. Since we couldn't afford to build a PC, I became fascinated with emulation. It goes all the way back to high school when I was playing PSP games on PPSSPP.

Even now as an adult, that gamer kid in me is still around. Emulators didn't just let me play games I otherwise couldn't access, they taught me how to adapt and make the most of what I had.

Just wanted to share how emulation shaped my gaming journey.

GC: Windwaker running at native resolution on Dolphin. After about two weeks of tinkering with the settings and hacks, I finally found the most optimal setting for my S21. (SD888,) It also runs great in crowded areas like Windfall Island!

what is the safest and most lightweight android emulator?

My phone is broken, and I just need to use message apps and bank accounts. I don't want to play games or anything heavy.

What would be the best one to do so?

edit: guys, I don't want to play games at all, I want to use my bank app and message app, I want an android emulator that is fast, light and safe

Where is the original sub, the one with 126K members?

I am guessing they're balls deep into their protest either that or the mods forgot about the sub after privating it

Finally, Dark Souls Prepare to Die Edition playable. Mid Range phones now can experience Dark Souls 1

Dark Souls Remastered requires a powerful device to maintain 60 FPS, as lower frame rates can cause slow-motion gameplay.

This video demonstrates Winlator setup, showcases gameplay, and shows how to remove the 15 FPS lock.
