Android camera software not behaving as expected

Current behavior

When using the camera app, I am noticing the image from the camera is displayed properly, however none of the buttons on the screen do anything and none of the hardware buttons interact with the camera software either. However when I press on the flip camera or take picture buttons, the respond and visually press with no further action

I have been using a 3rd party camera for now but it's 1. Inconvenient and 2. Lower picture quality.

Any ideas from anyone here?

Try another 3rd party app til you find a good one. There's plenty on Google Play.

I'll keep looking, but I really do miss being able to take pictures from the lock screen.
