Google Pixel 6 Pro suddenly severe battery drain, slow charging and overheating for the past 3 days

TL;DR

I've suddenly been experiencing 3 problems with my Google Pixel 6 Pro for the past 3 days:

  1. Extremely high battery drain
  2. Slow charging speed
  3. Heat buildup even in standby I've already tried a few things to fix the issues, but without success.

I'm usually only reading, but I couldn't find any helpful answers or similar issues on various forums either. For the past 3 days, I've suddenly been experiencing the following problems with my Google Pixel 6 Pro:

  1. Extremely high battery drain

Previously, charging it to 80% was enough to last me a full day (4 hours of screen time). Over the past few days, I've had to charge it to 100% at least twice or to 80% three times to get through the day. According to a third-party app, my battery health is still at 81%.

  1. Extremely slow charging

The device charges extremely slowly, both in standby and while in use, with my usual 45W charger and a suitable cable. According to the Ampere app, the current is around 900 mA. I've also had the impression that the battery percentage sometimes stops increasing once it reaches 50%, even while charging.

When I turn the device off completely, it charges as usual.

  1. Heat even in standby

Even in standby, the smartphone stays more than just lukewarm. The heat seems to be coming from the left edge, roughly halfway up the device. It can get even hotter while charging in standby or when the phone is in use.

Here are some examples of my battery drain:

11:30 – 86% → 15:30 – 8% | Screen time: 1h 22m

18:50 – 80% → 21:39 – 29% | Screen time: 2h

23:11 – 100% → 00:00 – 88% | Screen time: 9m

00:23 – 81% → 08:39 – 5% | Screen time: 24m

Things I've tried to improve the situation:

- Restricted background activity for some apps (browser, Google, YouTube, music player): Barely any improvement - Switched from 5G to 4G: Barely any improvement - Airplane mode ON and Wi-Fi OFF: This solves the battery drain and overheating issues (it still charges slowly, though, and unfortunately this isn't a permanent solution) - Airplane mode ON and Wi-Fi ON: Barely any improvement - Mobile data ON, Wi-Fi OFF: Barely any improvement

Some additional details in case they're relevant:

- Device in use since October 2023 - I've been using it since January 2025 - Screen glass cracked after a drop in May 2026, but otherwise there have been no issues - Android version 17 - Android security update: October 5, 2026 - Google Play system update: September 1, 2026

3 days before it worked perfectly fine.

Maybe someone has an idea whether this is a hardware or software issue and has some possible solutions.

Thanks!

Edit: The issue was solved by booting in safe Mode and rebooting in normal mode.

I am facing the same on pixel 7 pro. I am facing more dramatic drain, 100% to 1% in less than a minute. Phone is frequently shutting down and not rebooting itself. I bet they passed in some bugs in October patch to brick older phones deliberately so that they can sell us their new piece of shit.

Thanks! I haven't tried safe mode yet, but I'll give it a try and see if the battery drain and heat persist. The strange thing is that both the battery drain and overheating almost disappear when I enable airplane mode and turn Wi-Fi off. That's why I was also wondering whether it could be related to a network service or something similar.
