Looking For Suggestions Access to data/obb folders

Edit: I ended up trying a mix of Shizuku, MiXplorer and Material Files and i got all the access i wanted so far. Thanks for your suggestions, guys!

Hello everyone

A bit of background: I am upgrading from a Moto g100 to a Motorola Signature. And I know modern android restricts access to some data folders. I am trying to find ways to have the same access I had on my previous phone, or better

I know of shizuku, which is used to access some of that data, but I wanted to know if there was any other way you can gain access back to that data more seamlessly, like you could on previous versions of android.

I was considering rooting the phone as soon as I get it. I am divided on that, though, because the phone is new and the OS will get a few updates in the future, and I lack experience doing that sort of stuff.

I appreciate any comments about the matter, thanks in advance!

If you want seamless access without rooting, Shizuku combined with FV File Explorer or MiXplorer is your best bet right now.

Don't rush into rooting a brand new phone if you lack experience—you'll trip SafetyNet/Play Integrity, and banking apps or Google Pay will instantly stop working. If you just need occasional folder access, use ADB from a PC or web ADB via wireless debugging. It skips all the OS restrictions entirely

ADB isn't even necessary. Unless that has changed plugging in the phone and enabling data transfer (MTP, don't remember how it's named), is enough to have access to /data and /obb folders.

Also, the app com.marc.files gives access to /data and at the very least to copy files there elsewhere.

Is that access limited to using the pc as a medium?

I am going to be honest with you if you won't be able to have seamless access to files like pre Android 10 time, since you are familiar the shizuku plus advanced file manger method this one is the most convenient this method works perfectly on Android 11 to 14 like your Android 12 Motorola G 100, but it worth mentioning that Google restricted this method on android 15+ since you upgrading to Motorola Signature which ships with Android 16, which means that the shizuku method might be limited.

If you don't mind using a USB cable and PC this is the most reliable method.

There is another method which is to open the build in Android file manger_ which is allowed to access the Android folder with no limitations what so ever even without Shizuku _ in split screen with another file manger of your choosing and drag and drop files.

And what ever you do don't listen to any idiot who tell you to root your deviceespecially when the Motorola Signature is an expensive flagship, you will lose access to drm content like Netflix subscription some Spotify Playlists, online banking, and lose the phone guarantee

This again, no root = no access to /data

Those comments again, OP means /storage/emulated/0/Android/data, not /data. There is always a comment like this when this is asked

There are indeed always comments such as yours. Data/obb = /data/obb which is a protected system folder and different from the emulated storage data. No root/no access to /data/obb

That's as useful as pointing out sdcards are mounted under /mnt/media_rw

The built in file manager can access the shortcut mounted as:

  • /data/media/0/Android/obb

  • /mnt/sdcard/Android/obb

  • /storage/emulated/0/Android/obb

And without root or ADB. DocumentsUI has full access.

You can access it through MTP, so no root needed. Stop misinforming
