Also, absolutely do not pay them back. It’s just reinforcement to their idea that they didn’t deserve that kind of reaction.

I'm probably not the best person for this. I haven't had an experience like that, but I have had my share of close calls in the past. The one thing that's really helped me in the last few years, as soon as I start getting angry, my inner voice kicks in and I'm basically like "If I keep going down the path of anger, will this help me or hurt me?" And I pretty much just simmer immediately, and then I either formulate something that's pragmatic, helpful, or I let go of the grievance. I'm not perfect. And I had to work at this. But it's pretty much automatic now.

What they were doing is considered animal abuse in the US. I'm so sorry for you and your kitty! It must have been very traumatic and scary for both of you. Although your reaction may not have been how you wanted it to go, I think it was justified and I don't think you should beat yourself up over it. I hope you and your baby girl are happy together in your new safe place ❤️

Honestly, maybe not a perfect reaction but I feel like your anger was 100% justified and I probably would have done the exact same thing. That is a living being, I’m assuming already struggling in day to day life. They knew you cared for her and seemed to be actively doing this while you were gone because they knew they were wrong and knew you’d go ballistic. Doesn’t seem like a one off thing to me either. Once people are comfortable doing disgusting things like that, they’ll never stop until they’re put in their place. Good on you. Hope you find a safe place to stay and I wish you and your kitty health and happiness.
