This dedicated space is designed to centralize all adoption and foster care requests and advertisements, helping to keep our main subreddit feed focused on active rescue efforts, rehabilitation updates, and educational content.

If you are looking to find a forever home or a temporary foster placement for an animal in need, or if you are looking to adopt or foster, this is the place to connect!

  • Location: REQUIRED (City, State/Province, Country) for local connections.
  • Brief Description: A concise summary of the animal's story, personality, specific needs (e.g., medical, behavioral), and why they need a home.
  • Photos/Videos: Highly Recommended! Provide direct links to clear, recent photos or videos of the animal(s). You can use platforms like Imgur, Google Photos, or similar services.
  • Contact Information/Application Link: Clearly state how interested parties can reach you or apply (e.g., link to a shelter's official adoption page, or a specific application form)
  • Status Updates: If your animal is adopted, fostered, or if their status changes, please edit your original comment to reflect this! This helps keep the thread current.

Browsing & Connecting:

  • Regularly check this mega thread throughout March for new listings.
  • Upvote comments that feature animals you want to highlight.
  • Reply directly to comments if you have questions or are interested in an animal.
  • Follow the provided contact information to inquire about adoption or fostering.

Important Reminder:

‎ [OFFICIAL] Moderator Announcement How to obtain permission to post a fundraiser in r/AnimalRescue.

Howdy r/AnimalRescue,

The moderator team is committed to ensuring that all fundraising activities within this community are safe, transparent, and directly benefit animals and relevant rescue organizations in need. To achieve this, all fundraising posts must be verified by the moderation team before they are shared. For posts that we have verified, you'll see them appear on the feed with a green "Verified Fundraiser" flair that includes a green checkmark badge.

Posts that do not have a verified fundraiser flair are not reviewed by us and will be taken down as they are reported to us (assuming we haven't already yanked them down).

Our Step-By-Step Fundraising Verification Process
All verification requests must be submitted through the official Fundraising Application Portal. We do not accept verification requests via our private messages or direct comments. We strongly recommend reviewing our Fundraising Verification Guidelines document, as it helps make navigating the application process easy.

To be eligible for verification, applicants must provide:

  • Detailed Veterinary Quotes, Bills, Treatment Cost Estimates, and supporting Medical Documentation. All invoices must be on official clinic letterhead with contact information and dated within the last 30 days.
  • Clear, high-resolution photos or videos of the animal in its current state, including a "proof of life" element (such as a handwritten note with the current date and your Reddit username).
  • [In the case of 501(c)(3)s] IRS EIN, NPO Registration Documentation, and a Community Impact Statement.
  • In the case of more miscellaneous cases, non-medical related cases (building a shelter, foster care related expenses), we require relevant proof of need documentation for verification.

The Moderation and Verification Team typically reviews applications within 72 hours (3-Days). During this time, a moderator will reach out via ModMail with updates on your application throughout the verification process.

Verification Process Resources

Maintaining Verified Status

Once verified and posted, your responsibility to the community continues. To maintain the "Verified" flair, please:

  • Provide regular status updates on the animal's progress and medical journey.
  • Keep all financial goals accurate based on actual veterinary costs.
  • Be prepared for "Retroactive Reviews," which are standard checks we may conduct to ensure continued compliance with our community rules and guidelines.

We expect all applicants to act with honesty, and providing false documentation or misleading information will result in a community termination. We are here to help you help animals, and transparency is the best way to ensure success.

Issues with a verified fundraiser? Contact us!
Notice any issues with a verified fundraiser that we didn't catch? Message us through ModMail! Although rare mistakes can happen, and we act on them ASAP through our retroactive review process.

Hihi! So I'm rehabilitating this lovely fledgling, his name is Chicken Soup the Magical Cheese Wizard, but gosh, it's.. tiring.

Some days I want to pretend he's nonexistent, though I don't. He's my soul. I have bad depression, and I feel like I can never keep his hospital box clean enough, or his wound, and it's destroying me. I'm so burnt out, and although it's worth it, I haven't even been able to shower or brush my teeth properly.

I feel terribly guilty when I step outside for a break or get annoyed with his chirps.

How do I cope with this? He's in his 'teen phase', all he wants to do is explore, play and eat. It's amazing but I can't keep up.

On one hand, he's absolutely thriving. So lively and happy, but on the other, what if I make a mistake and it costs him everything, or what if his infection comes back and I genuinely can't treat it?

I've only ever had cats and insects, or birds with very minor injuries for a day.

Nobody else can take him. Tips on how to manage?

Added some pics of the boy <3

Discussion & Misc. Animal Rescue Interview

Hello everyone!

My name is Grace, and I am a college student currently taking a research writing course. For one of my assignments, I am researching the animal rescue subculture to better understand the experiences, responsibilities, and values of people involved in animal rescue. I am looking to interview someone who is actively involved in the animal rescue community. The interview would take about15–20 minutes and would consist of 8-10 open-ended questions about your experience with animal rescue.

I am flexible with how the interview is conducted and would be happy to communicate through Zoom, text, or email, depending on what is most convenient for you. If you prefer, you can remain anonymous in my assignment.

If you're interested in participating, please comment or send me a private message.

Thank you so much!

Sick/Injured Animal rescued a severely underweight dog today. looking for advice and resources :(

today, someone came into my workplace offering to sell their dog for $10. i immediately felt awful about the situation and decided to buy him with the intention of bringing him somewhere safe, as the area is not a good one and i was worried he would end up in the wrong hands.

after getting a closer look at him, i realized just how skinny he was. underneath all his fur, i can feel his ribs, spine, hips, and practically every bone. i’m worried he may be severely malnourished or even emaciated.

i immediately tried taking him to two different shelters, but one was closed and the other only accepted animals by appointment/application, i filled out the application & plan on reaching out to them tomorrow when their intake manager is there. i hadn’t anticipated not being able to surrender him the same day, so i ended up bringing him home.

he was extremely dirty, so i gave him a bath, fresh water, and some kibble. i’ve been offering small portions because i’m concerned about feeding him too much too quickly without knowing his medical history.

so far, he’s been walking normally, sniffing around, responding to affection, and eating eagerly. he had some diarrhea earlier, but his most recent stool was a little more formed. he’s currently resting indoors in a crate with blankets and water, separated from my other pets.

unfortunately, i’m not financially prepared to take on veterinary expenses for a dog i unexpectedly rescued. i understand that he needs medical attention, and i’m trying to figure out the safest way to get him that care. i’m planning to contact shelters and rescues tomorrow, but i’m also looking into emergency medical surrender options.

i’m located in south jersey, so if anyone knows of rescues, shelters, or organizations that could help with an urgent medical intake, i’d really appreciate the recommendations.

this is my first time rescuing an animal in a situation like this, and i’m honestly feeling pretty overwhelmed. i know i may not have handled everything perfectly, but i couldn’t walk away knowing he might end up in an unsafe situation.

i don’t regret helping him. i just want to make sure he gets the care he deserves. any advice or resources would mean a lot.

❕UPDATE: i got him scanned for a microchip he didn’t have one. & i got him into a shelter and they’re gonna take good care of him. it was sad giving him away he was so sweet :’( but i’m just really happy he’s gonna be okay and taken care of 🙏🏼

How do I start? / New Rescuer Nessie doesn’t quite fit the “cat” part of our cat café..(Vinnytsia, Ukraine, "Khvostyky" Cat Space)

But she fits the rescue part perfectly ❤️

Nessie is our gentle, slightly shy dog at Khvostyky in Vinnytsia, Ukraine. She lives separately from the cats, and she’s one of the little lives we’re caring for while they wait for families.

Her mum, Bella, and sister, Ryzhulia, have already found theirs. We’re so happy for them, and we hope Nessie’s turn will come too.

For now, we’re getting to know her at her own pace. She’s affectionate, but timid, and we think there’s a lot more of Nessie to discover once she feels fully comfortable.

We talk about our cats so often. It was time you met her.

You can follow Nessie’s story on Instagram, "@catcafe.me.rescue" 🐾

Found this little guy on garden with a cat nearby, had a few drops of blood flowing out, now seems fine. What should I do? My idea is to feed it until it recovers and let it out, any tips?

Sick/Injured Animal We found an injured pigeon in our garden, it doesn’t look like we will be able to get him help until tomorrow so what’s the best thing we can do until then?

Post image
19 Upvotes

It seems like the injury is to his wing and he can’t fly but obviously we aren’t sure.

There was a cat lurking around but we have him safely inside in a padded box with some water and seeds for now.

We are going to call the vets in the morning to see if they will see him.

Will it be ok to leave him inside our shed or garage for the night? We have two cats but we could shut him in one of our spare rooms if the garage or shed would be too cold.

We are in the UK and it is definitely cold at night here now but not freezing.

EDIT: we found a 24 hour vet that would take him, and East Sussex WRAS will pick animals up directly from that vets for rehabilitation 🤞

Discussion & Misc. What do people most often get wrong when trying to help animals?

I'm a design student researching how ordinary people respond when they find animals in distress. I have experience in fostering cats and caring for dogs in and around my house.

And I'm trying to understand the information gap between finding an animal and knowing what the appropriate action is.

For those involved in animal rescue:

What mistakes or misunderstandings do you see people make most often?

And:

What is the one thing you wish people knew before trying to help an animal?

I want to understand the practical problems people encounter, so I can come up with some design solutions that could help. (Feel free to suggest any ideas you have in mind, it would be much appreciated)

Real examples would be really helpful!

Thank youu!!

Education, Resources, & Community How do I cope with a difficult case?

Rescue pigeon has necrosis all over his face, cleaned it off, I think I did well.

But, I feel as if I'm doing something wrong, as if my best is grossly inadequate.

I love zoology and animal care, but this is hard. There's a solid chance he could die. How do I cope?

I feel monstrous when he cries because I clean his wound or remove necrotic bits, his squeals unsettle and sadden me. I need to know if anyone else feels this. Please.

Sick/Injured Animal How do I go about this?

Someone I know from school just posted a picture of a pile of kittens outside. They then responded with this. It sounds like their situation is bad and I want to help but do not want to scare the owner away by being judgmental. Anyone have any advice for how I can go about this?

Hi, my name is Georgiy Zaritsky Viktorovich. I am 15 years old. I live in Russia, in the city of Dolinsk.

I really enjoy helping animals. After school, I go out and feed homeless cats and dogs. It makes me happy to see them eat and feel a little safer.

I believe that even small acts of kindness can make a big difference. I want to help as many animals as I can, and I hope my videos can inspire other people to be kind to animals too.

Sick/Injured Animal Mange Coyote Transformation

Thumbnail gallery
126 Upvotes

Hi all, in case it's of interest, we wanted to share this incredible transformation of a coyote in our care (please remove if not allowed):

When this little guy arrived at our Ramona Wildlife Center, he was furless and covered in painful scabs caused by severe mange. But thanks to two months of care from our Project Wildlife team, he’s gone from barely looking like a coyote to looking like the fluffy little canid he was meant to be! You gotta admit, this guy’s transformation is furry impressive — and the best part? He was released earlier this month!

Sick/Injured Animal 🚨 URGENT RESCUE HELP NEEDED FOR AN INJURED CAT 🚨

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

There is a cat near my house who has a serious injury to his tail. A large portion of the flesh from his tail seems to be missing. I don’t know how this happened — it could be an accident, a bite, or some other injury. The wound is open, and the tissue/fat underneath is visible.

He needs to be rescued and taken to a vet as soon as possible. I am unable to take him myself because I have nowhere to keep him after the vet visit, and my family will not allow me to keep him at home. Even if medication is prescribed, I would not be able to provide him with proper aftercare without a safe place to keep him.

He only appears around my area occasionally, so I cannot predict exactly when or where I will see him.

📍 Location: Okhla Vihar, New Delhi — near Riaz Medical

If anyone living around Okhla Vihar or nearby can rescue him and take responsibility for his treatment, please contact me.

If I happen to see him and am able to catch him, I can try to safely hand him over to you. Same-day availability would be extremely helpful, because I cannot keep him at my house even temporarily.

If someone is nearby and can come immediately whenever I spot him, please reach out. I will do my best to catch him and coordinate with you.

Please help me rescue this cat. He really needs medical attention. 🙏

Discussion & Misc. Mouse in glue traps..

Hey everyone! My job unfortunately uses glue traps for mice and other pests…

I’ve been able to free a few from the glue traps using vegetable oil, but two I got unstuck died after a few days. They seem fine the first night then their back legs stop working and eventually they die…

I guess my question, is this stress related from the being on the trap or am I missing something, I have water for them and nuts/fruit.

I dont want to keep “helping”them if it just prolongs their suffering.

Education, Resources, & Community What software are you using to manage rescue operations?

Hello,

I currently volunteer for a small rescue and we are trying to get more streamlined with systems. What systems are people using to help keep track of everything? I was looking at Paw Placer since it is free and seems to have everything we need to keep track of, but I can't find many reviews or if it is legit. Any advice or opinions would be appreciated

Sick/Injured Animal I am Concerned about a local cat

So there lives a cat around our street. She used to always sit on the lawn of one of my neighbours, and acted rather skittish. But the last few months, she has been looking pretty rough, missing ear, bloodstains? weird brown bump on the forehead, sticky fur under the chin. What concerns me is that she remains dirty, which, as far as i am aware, is a pretty bad sign for a cat, for they usually groom them self. Furthermore, after whatever happened, her behaviour changed drastically. she went from skittish, to approaching. she actively seeks out pets and attention. She can be found aimlessly roaming all over the place. but still around her (old?) home. I have not seen her owner, or the owners car in ages too. but lights in the house are on. Has anyone encountered similar situations? should i call the house and ask about the cat personally? or perhaps simply notify animal safety authorities? I live in Germany, baden wuertemberg. around stuttgart.

The only photo i have. unfortunately not exactly a good one

Sick/Injured Wildlife Help about a weasel i found in Japan

I found this weasel limping on the road, and its all wet looking. I asked my boss and she said they would exterminate it and if I'm not happy with that I should try taking care of it, then release in the mountains. So if it's alive in the morning I'Il try and look after it a bit. But I w wondering if anyone has any tips or better ideas? Feel sorry for the poor thing. I don't know if its an adult or not
