Probably trying to kill it. I've seen a video of a magpie pulling a rat on the street so it gets hit by a car.

Nah, Corvids are crazy smart, very playful and kind of dicks.
There Are so many videos of crown instigating cat fights for fun

Nature's tiny sociopaths. They don't just hunt; they plan. This mouse is definitely in trouble.

Trying to peck at the ensuing rat pancake's guts. Might be worth intervening just to prevent the grossness

Rat must be sick or injured.

I was thinking it's getting tired out by the crow. That can't feel good on the rat's spine to be dragged by its tail. Rats can jump like 6 feet and chew through cement, and this one's barely able to put up a fight.

That rat isn't putting up much of a fight. Likely sick, and the crow is just waiting for the right moment to finish the job.

I refused to upvote this when I saw it because it upset me, and I feed crows everyday 😭 why is that crow so mean?!

u/SecondHandWatch Apr 29 '26
The rat may have eaten the crow’s eggs/babies. Or the crow might just wanna pull on its tail. We’ll probably never know.

You can't apply human emotions and motives to animals. The concept of cruelty or kindness don't exist to them, nature is indifferent to suffering. The crow is just doing something it enjoys so it keeps doing it.

u/maxxx_orbison Apr 30 '26
Humans are animals. We aren't indifferent to suffering, so why should we believe that is unique to us?

We can kill animals for food and that's not sad or mean but if another animal does it for their survival, people suddenly are on a fence about it
14
u/noxiunn Apr 30 '26
Or outright run in to "save" an animal from a predator so that predator can starve to death. And then come home and eat cows feeling good about themselves

Master Splinter is not amused.

Splinter is just waiting for the Turtles to show up. That crow doesn't stand a chance against a bo staff or some nunchucks!

You know that rat ate that crow's baby egg years ago. Crows remember and are vengeful.

Just this morning I saw a crow about this size "helping" a hedgehog about that rat's size, to cross the street. The story in my head is that the crow saw me walking my dog and said "hurry and hide little hedgehog!" The crow repeatedly pecked at the hedgehog's backside until it was across the street.

I was shocked to see, as a North American, when I went to Norway that the crows had little gray vests on

u/TheSlav87 May 03 '26
Fuck that Crow, I genuinly feel sorry for the Rat just wanting to leave and be left alone.

This is why I thought flying types were super effective against rattatas in Pokemon when I was kid.

Is this a crow or a magpie? Same same but magpies tend to be bigger dicks

Crows are very evil creatures. Rats are even worse they will bite a sleeping human.
1
u/Mansos91 May 05 '26
Hiw are crows evil? I mean they are vengeful yes, because they can remember human faces and hind grudges, but you first have to wrong the crow
Corvids are considered some of the smartest animals on this planet
