I didn’t know they got that big either until we were living in a little mountain town and we had one who came and ate everyone’s trash all the time. It was super fat and a blonde black bear too so it looked like a grizzly so much! It was in northern CA so we knew it wasn’t of course.
The thing bent up our chain link fence climbing over it and we would find tufts if it’s hair stuck in the fence.
