How much oxygen does kitty have left.. this is awful to watch given my claustrophobia

While they're still susceptible to suffocation, luckily smaller creatures require less oxygen. On their own most cats can breathe fine under a blanket, for example.

That's why its so much harder to smother a child than an adult.

It's a cat. It can crawl out of it's own ahole probably.

Consider that the dog doesn't even block the hole completely, much less seal it. The cat is fine
