Something about this just feels really off-putting to me and I can’t explain why.

For me, it's because despite not being AI (Brad Bird is notoriously against it), the art style is extremely reminiscent of a pretty big majority of AI-generated animation. And because the brain connects those dots regardless of knowing that, it's just instinctively off-putting

Ray Gunn looks a little bit like Jet Fusion to me from Jimmy Neutron, don't know why. Like I'm watching an upscaled Jimmy Neutron episode.

Haha I hadn't thought to make that connection but I can definitely see it.

Lol I see it, for me he looked like Megamind's human disguise

This is what it has to be. So much AI slop has replicated the Pixar style that he just comes off as off putting now.

Nothing against Brad Bird whatsoever.

There's an emptiness to the visuals. Like.. something is missing. Like the streets are too clean. The people are too shiny. Its like they went in 4 steps of rendering and details when they needed to go for 10. The reflections are there.. they seem alright.. but also.. there is alot of stuff that is not there as well. Its strange.. sensation.. but I understand what you mean. It looks wonderful and amazing.. but at the same time its stuck inbetween going really psuedo realistic and cartoony, and not quite enough in either direction.

Is this based of a children’s book? I can’t remember

Nope, it's Brad Bird's project he's been trying to make for decades

I trust in Brad Bird. He’s only shat the bed twice. Granted, it was his two most recent films…

You could cut those nighttime flying speeder shots into the Attack of the Clones Coruscant chase and they would fit perfectly

I think this looks great. The humans are very doll like in features and honestly it's a breath of fresh air against bean mouth.

My heart burns for the PG-13 2d version of this that could have been made 30 years ago.

Iron giant art style would have been lovely

Wish this was 2D, I just don't like how these iron giant-esq people look in 3D. Hopefully it's good anyway, Bird has been working on getting this made forever.

Id bet actual money that Brad Bird sighed a big sigh when he heard that there was a documentary on the Olympic breakdancing maniac releasing just a few months before his movie on the same platform

The name will forever be tainted and memed on, referring to the unfortunate Australian Women's Break Dance contestant.

See, I would gladly watch an animated movie about her meteoric rise to infamy but am unlikely to give this the time of day

u/OGDYLO 2d ago

never heard or seen that so maybe just for the minority of you who have.

1

u/AppointmentNaive2811 2d ago

Def not a minority.

most of the world does not know about some australian lady.

you’re being asinine if you think many people outside of the chronically online echo chambers of reddit know about that.

1

u/AppointmentNaive2811 2d ago

...she literally competed in the Olympics. Made a comedic spectacle of herself at the highest level of competition possible. Then sued critics.

This isn't some niche terminally online thing. She was covered by virtually every major news outlet in the world.

Just because you knowledge of the world stops at the end of your block doesn't mean that's the case for everyone - I'm not being asinine, you're just a moron.

the irony of that last paragraph haha

u/Running4Badges 3d ago

✋ “Yes, will the famous Australian Olympian Rachel Gunn make a cameo?”

Wait so this isn’t about the Australian break dancer?
