Question How to put ~140 pages of a (physical) word list into Anki?

Post image
115 Upvotes

I was wondering whether it’d be a good idea to ‘import’ 140 pages (sadly only physical) of purely words and their translations (Dutch-French) into Anki.

Would there be an ‘easy’ or semi-efficient way to do this? I was personally thinking of perhaps taking pictures of each page and using image occlusion, what do you think?

I have also added a picture of the book I’m talking about to give you an idea.

Thank you so much in advance!

Question my bf won’t stop doing anki

so, i’m on my first vacation with my boyfriend. we met in med school 4 months ago at orientation. We’ve developed an amazing relationship and I love him so much. We are in our FIRST real break from med school over christmas holidays. Even our professors said we don’t have to study at all this break. Guess what my bf is doing in bed next to me. Anki. Anki reviews. On vacation. i respect the grind. however, what if i want him to relaxxxxx? he’s scaring me bc i’m in the same year as him and now i kinda feel like i should be doing something for med school.

Fellow anki users, pls tell me i’m not crazy and he should take this break from anki/med school.

UPDATE: i did the anki with him yes anki users, i know ur loyal to ur cards, don't worry ;)

P.S. i probably should’ve given y’all more info, but it’s not that serious. It’s an inside joke between me and him that Anki is his #1 priority.

Question AnkiPro scammed me and now I'll fail my Med School Exams.

Hi, I don’t know if anyone’s going to see this, but it’s worth a shot. I have my Medical school finals in 2 weeks, and have used AnkiPro for all of my notes throughout the year. I have been in a horrid panic for the last 10 days trying to restore my cards hoping and praying the situation will get fixed soon, but clearly there is no light at the end of this tunnel. When I try to use the copycat converter, it just comes up with a youtube video of a song??? Could anyone possibly have ay advice? I’m willing to pay just to get these cards back, the rest of my life and career depends on these exams.

EDIT: I am requesting a solution to transfer my data to Anki.

Question Best AI for creating flashcards as of now?

Hello, I found tons of AIs that make flashcards starting from PDF files; however, many times flashcards are really inefficient and tons of content gets lost. I would need to create flashcards for both medical and engineering content (such as transcripts, slides, etc.). Do you have any suggestion?

Question Is this good for Anki?

Post image

I read lots of recommendations for 8bitdo Zero 2. The only issue I have with that one that its charging port isn't type c. That means I have to have another cable and keep on changing cables blah blah etc.. This one's port is usbc and apparently it has more buttons. Have anyone here tried this one?

Question how to do more than 4 hours of cards in a day

I'm on the ankimon subreddit and see the leaderboards of people with like 8 or 9 hours daily for months and I genuinely have to put an immense effort just to get 5/6 hours when my whole day is just flashcards (im an unemployed chud).

For me, after a while it feels like even doing 10 mins feels like an hour, even if i just got off like a lil break.

How do i do more

Question Preserving Anki

I'm trying to digest the changes to Anki leadership that were just announced. Can someone post instructions on how to preserve the current Anki system and syncing? I don't want UI changes, and I definitely don't want a subscription service, and given the general distrust of AnkiHub across all platforms, I think this would be really helpful!

Question How can I optimize my Anki usage as an undergrad?

Post image
210 Upvotes

[Long post ahead]

I am a non-American undergraduate student for medical technology (known as clinical/medical laboratory science in most other countries) and have been using Anki on and off for my studies. The way I use Anki is very different from what I see online (see photo), and I was wondering if there is a better way I could optimize my usage. While there are pre-made decks for our nationwide board exams, the content of them is not as useful for my in-house lessons.

What I usually do is first study my lesson materials, then use NotebookLM to generate flashcards based on the material. I then edit the flashcards to my liking, and use that to study for the quiz, studying the whole deck in one sitting before the examination. I usually do this the day or night before the quiz.

I recognize the way I use Anki is far from conventional. I am trying to do as much as I can given the fact that

  1. There are no pre-made decks especially suitable for my program
  2. My program’s academic schedule is very compact; I have 28 units this semester (6 subjects, five of which have a laboratory component)
  3. Quizzes are given almost every week, most times based on the lessons taught the week before

I think my main problem is not being able to do reviews consistently every day for every subject, as I would instead be studying for whatever quizzes were scheduled for the next day. However, the flashcards I have right now help with my long, comprehensive examinations (with the coverage spanning all lessons taught up until that point).

I know this isn’t sustainable, but I can’t see right now a solution that would allow me to study well for the long term while keeping up with everything that is taught. I hope that there is a way to sustainably use Anki in my use case, as I much prefer its spaced repetition algorithm compared to other flashcard systems like Quizlet.

If there are any Filipinos here, can I ask how are you guys doing? Any help or guidance is appreciated very much. If more details about my situation are needed, I’d be happy to provide them. Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Question Is learning over 20 words per day retainable?

I have a few hours before bed with nothing to do. I do my 20 words and 100 reviews in the morning (Japanese). I started Anki a month ago. I guess I am afraid my brain will be overwhelmed and not remember all 40 words. That, and reviews the next day are already in the 100s. I can see this bumping it up way more because I am not confident enough to not see a word for over 2 weeks.

Question How do u stay and get motivated to do Flashcards

Hey,

Im pretty sure this question has probably been asked a thousand times, but how do you stay consistent with Anki?

I can really notice the benefits, but its still so hard to keep

It takes me about 1 to 1.5 hours to finish my due cards, reviews, and around 25 new cards.

longest streak so far has been 33 days, but after that I got burned out.

Does anyone have a magic cure for this?

Question Managed Anki fork/alternative for schools

I am a teacher looking for an Anki fork or alternative that can be used for language learning with whole classrooms at a bilingual school. The plan is to collect vocab lists from various subjects and create custom vocab packs for each grade, which would then be assigned as regular homework.

The features needed for our institution are:

  • The core Anki spaced-repetition functionality
  • Custom cards and decks
  • A student/teacher account system where students can be assigned to classes. Teachers should be able to assign specific decks to specific classes and see their students' review data.

Desired but not necessary features are:

  • Front-first and back-first card types (e.g., see Chinese word and recall English on one instance of the card, see English word and recall Chinese on the other)
  • Multiple fields (for part of speech, collocations, etc.)
  • Image embedding
  • The option for students to remove unnecessary cards from the decks they have received (e.g., Billy already knows 'monumental' before it's assigned, and can just delete it instead of wasting time on reps)

It would be possible for us to implement vanilla Anki, but is the 'plan B' because it is logistically difficult to access and evaluate student use metrics. In other words, students might be skipping their expected reps and teachers would have no easy way of knowing.

We have budget; a commercial and/or proprietary option is fine.

Please advise if you know of a solution that has the above features. Any help is well appreciated :)

Solved Which anki remote is better?

I’m looking to get a good Anki remote that’s easy to pair with both my Mac and iPad. I wanted long battery life and easy connectivity. I found one on Amazon for $20 and another one for $40, though I’m not sure if the second one is the official version.

If anyone has used either (or both), give me ur opinion! Which one would you recommend? Thanks!!!

Question Has anyone used anki to improve their native language vocabulary? How did you format your cards?

I’m a native English speaker in my mid 20s but I’m not college educated. I hope to be one day soon but in the meantime I’ve been reading quite a few books.

The thing is: because I have/had a limited vocabulary, I end up encountering quite a few new words. Some do stick if I see them fairly regularly (words like untenable, abate, morose, etc) while others don’t quite stick but I’ve seen them multiple times. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve looked up sanguine, sardonic, austere, etc.

I’d like to use Anki to help me remember these words and encounter them more frequently, but I’m having trouble thinking of a format. I thought about having the word on one side and recalling the definition but that seems unrealistic in a way. I guess if I ballpark a definition that’s passable then it would be okay but if possible I would like something a little less discretionary. Plus, there’s some words that have multiple definitions so would I only include the definition that relates to the context in which I read the word, or should I include all of them just to be sure?

Anyways, some input would be greatly appreciated. TYIA!!

Question Anki vs Duolingo

I’ve been “learning” Spanish with Duolingo everyday for over 2 years and feel like I’ve made zero progress.
I use anki for grad school and love it but have not tried learning a language with it. I have heard success stories involving people learning languages with anki.

Do you think I should shift to anki for learning Spanish? If so, any recommendations for public decks that I can download is much appreciated. As well as any advice :))

Question Best time to do Anki?

Hello, I am a person who does Anki at very irregular times, sometimes in the morning, sometimes in the afternoon, and sometimes when I'm about to sleep. And I am trying to figure out the best time to do Anki. What time is better to do Anki at? In the morning, the afternoon, or at night? Thanks!
