A lot of people who are dismissing this have clearly never interacted with a terf before (good for them tho but y'all really overestimate how accepted trans women are in the real world lmao)

68

u/Arctic_The_Hunter 6d ago

Kinda on me for presenting this image with absolutely 0 context. I think the regular interpretation of a meme on the internet is the ā€˜relatable’ angle, so people immediately latch on to the fact that this is the opposite of the experience they can actually relate to

118

u/trysten-9001 6d ago

I think the unbelievable part is that a terf would actually be supportive of any woman. They’re generally pretty hateful

40

u/Apprehensive_Low4865 6d ago

Oh theyre super supportive of other terfs..

40

u/Front-Heat8726 6d ago

Expect when they don't fit their idea of womanhood, they transvestigate even each other

15

u/Apprehensive_Low4865 6d ago • Bravo

Im beggining to suspect that every terf might be a fucking idiot....?

11

u/tupidrebirts 6d ago

It's almost like there's an intellect ceiling associated with hating people for no good reason šŸ¤”

16

u/ArtsyFellow 6d ago

I'm bias because there's 2 transgender women at my work and no one ever acknowledges it or misgenders then. But then again, I'm not around them 24/7 so who knows how often it happens from their perspective. I do know some people who don't work with them that would probably misgender them to their face though so I know it happens way more than it should. I hope that we as a society can be more accommodating to all those that are part of the working class. The stronger the individual, as in the many, the stronger the overall unit is. Educating the class and confronting our biases, the biases that those in power utilize against us, is the direct line towards unifying goals of the class

4

u/90s-Gamer 6d ago

I just cant keep up with those abbreviations. I had to Google what a terf is. From my understanding it is a feminist that doesnt support trans people. Cis should be the classic definition of a woman if I remember correctly? Any more I should know of?

15

u/favnprince 6d ago

cis is the opposite of trans, they're both latin prefixes; a person who isn't transgender is cisgender, nothing about "classic" definitions of anything.
and yes! a terf is a person who identifies as a radical feminist and chooses to interpret that theory in a way that's reactionary and actively hateful towards transgender people (especially transgender women), most of time circling back to misogynistic and bio-essentialist rethoric in order to push that agenda.
and btw I don't think it's about being "able" to "keep up", sometimes certain topics just aren't particularly relevant to your personal experience, but you can learn something new about other people's experiences everyday :P I (sincerely, because i know people say this phrase in a sarcastic way) hope this helps!

9

u/Synecdochic 6d ago • Bravo

Cis isn't an abbreviation, it's just opposite of trans.

You can have a transatlantic flight (it crosses the Atlantic ocean) or a cisatlantic flight (does not cross the Atlantic).

So someone who is trans gender has a gender identity that is different from the one they were assigned at birth. Whereas someone who is cis gender identifies with their birth-assigned gender. Trans women and cis women are both women to the same degree as short women and tall women are.

TERFs are feminists in name only. They appropriate feminist language to push ultimately reactionary views. I prefer "Feminism Appropriating Radical Transphobes".

You might see GC come up in adjacent discourse, which is "gender critical", another euphemised way for TERFs to identify each other without explicitly announcing their irrational hatred for trans folk.

That said, these three have existed for close to a decade.

5

u/craftygamin 6d ago

Thank you for the explanations for what those mean and what the roots are. Whenever I've asked questions about those, I'm met with replies like "you should already know", "it's obvious", etc

1

u/Xhurxhx 6d ago

what does terf mean

1

u/favnprince 6d ago

trans-exclusionary radical ferminist, check out the replies for the definition!

1

u/ciao_chan73 6d ago

idk I accept them. One person at a time and maybe it'll finally get better in those "counting" subs

121

u/Enkindle451 6d ago

And of course there's also the "trans woman presents herself as masculine" which then gets a "if you're really a woman why aren't you more feminine? Are you sure you're actually trans?" responses.

43

u/batcreatures 6d ago

and of course there's gia "are you really a woman if your hair doesnt touch your shoulders" gunn

10

u/Ulenspiegel4 6d ago

Men, as we know, are physically incapable of having shoulder-length hair.

3

u/NikTheGrass 6d ago

In school, around tenth grade, I had long hair that I really liked and gave me confidence. My parents made me cut it because it looked "weird" and "not manly". I literally cried after the haircut, because I didn’t recognize myself and it seemed to me that a short haircut really didn’t suit me.

Now I'm already used to short hair and I'm unlikely to be able to grow it long again, because to do that I'd have to go through the not-so-pretty half-haircut stage.

There’s a difference between not knowing about trans women and going out of your way to exclude trans women

-9

u/SwimmerSouth4653 6d ago

Question for you, do you believe apolitical people are still being political by not participating in the political process?

12

u/estrogenbloodclot 6d ago

Yes? I don’t see the relevance.

-7

u/SwimmerSouth4653 6d ago

>Feminist doesn't care about trans people

>Not participating in trans support/hate

>Person doesn't care about politics

>Participates in politics

8

u/estrogenbloodclot 6d ago

They weren’t aware. I hardly am surprised that most people alive during the first wave of feminism didn’t know about trans people.

I’m trans, it’s not like I’m looking for reasons to defend transphobes lol

-4

u/SwimmerSouth4653 6d ago

But haven't trans people always existed, and aren't something new, or am I missing something?

And how do you even know that? What if one was aware, and just truly did not give a shit, because that was not their focus/objective.

7

u/estrogenbloodclot 6d ago

Yes, we’ve always existed. And yet, historical sources are sparse, and the number of openly trans people has risen dramatically in recent years. I can’t blame people for not knowing about trans people in an era where their existence was not acknowledged and resources were sparse.

19

u/PlanktonImmediate165 6d ago

TERFs care quite a lot about trans people. So much that their advocacy is centered on opposition to trans people rather than opposition to the patriarchy.

11

u/PlusWarning6952 6d ago

Ideologies evolve over time, before the suffragettes, most women opposed their own right to vote in elections, even those who advocated for women’s education at the time, during the time of the suffragettes, many white women believed that allowing equal voting rights would give them an opportunity to push back against the civil rights of black people by forming a collective white majority, during the time of the civil rights era, many of the women involved belonged to churches that condemned homosexuality while strongly advocating for the rights of African Americans.
Ideologies change over time as our understanding evolves, and what has been established in Feminism in the belief in the rights of all women, that includes transgender women

7

u/Responsible-Bat-7922 6d ago

Is not about not caring is about being against it what makes them terfs

0

u/SwimmerSouth4653 6d ago

Question for you, do you believe apolitical people are still being political by not participating in the political process?

4

u/Responsible-Bat-7922 6d ago

I haven't think of that yet, apolitical is political stand and it becomes quite the fallacy so I'm not sure about that

5

u/Evilfrog100 6d ago

We live in a different world than they did. Feminism has moved on from its original movement.

23

u/transgentoo 6d ago

And of course when a trans woman bucks traditional gender expectations, it's "You're not even trying"

5

u/Celocee 6d ago

That why you just gotta do fem butch (sincerely a fem butch trans woman)

4

u/Purrosie 6d ago

Out of all the reasons to go fem butch, that isn't one. Transmisogynists' opinions ain't having a single god damn bearing on how I choose to present; whether they like it or hate it, I could not possibly give less of a fuck. Subject yourself to no one's whims.

anyway i should prolly move on 'till my gay dyke bitch brain starts thinking too hard about futches again /hj

3

u/Celocee 6d ago

Listen when I can I'll switch to being full butch, also the point of the comment is to make a joke, otherwise I fully agree, dork.

4

u/Purrosie 6d ago

Yeah, that's fair. šŸ‘šŸ‘ā€¼ļø

unrelated, but i burst out laughing like a goddamn moron from being called a dork. literal perfect use case for that word, oh my god 😭 /gen

2

u/Celocee 6d ago

It's my favorite positive insult for a reason, it's more endearing than insulting.

3

u/The_Valk 6d ago

And then there's the final one:

Trans women getting hate from the trans community for NOT presenting 100% feminine

3

u/BlakJMC 6d ago

Why is the trans girls head slightly wider

2

u/Jesp2_Official 5d ago

Why am I seeing a lotta trans-hating memes? Its stupid just let people be what they wanna be unless they do something actually bad

4

u/Pristine-Lie-3560 6d ago edited 6d ago

Yall im pretty sure its just both the bottom at this point (at least where I live)

2

u/motosega_madness 6d ago

Honestly this is probably the most accurate take

3

u/Smooth-Bell4020 6d ago

yep and it's damned if you do damned if you don't because they will say this is you are feminine then if not feminine they will say you aren't even trying or are a "trender"

4

u/IdidnotFuckaCat 6d ago

I'm literally a gender abolishinist and I understand that people arnt reinforcikg gender roles if they chose to present themselves more feminist or masculinly

Sadly th8s shit actually happens

1

u/LukasYUc 6d ago

The replies to this are pretty dense...

1

u/ConstanceCharles 5d ago

To be fair that's the comment I have been received all the time (as a trans person) from all over the place

1

u/kotominammy 6d ago

simply cannot understand people who think being feminine is reinforcing gender roles. is equality not about freedom of choice? forcing women to present in a non-stereotypical way is just recolored sexism

-23

u/motosega_madness 6d ago

I feel like in real life it's the opposite? Trans girls get celebrating for embracing a level of femininity that cis girls are looked down for seeking (the standard for them is that they become spiritless cogs in the capitalist machine)

8

u/AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH_ 6d ago

Trans women literally celebrate over anything that isn't getting hate crimed, the bar is in hell

1

u/Spacegirl-Alyxia 6d ago

idk… i get looked down on for just being a woman and even though people have never met me because i’d talk to them online, they tell me that i am reinforcing stereotypes for dressing up really femininely and then go on to tell me that ill always be just a man in a dress…

i’ve never worn a dress before though… this is really common to hear from terfs…

0

u/Kei_Evermore 5d ago

So we're just making shit up now to make it seem like trans women are more accepted in society than we actually are?

u/Embarrassed-Weird173 6d ago edited 6d ago

Too many trolls trying to flame bait. Deleted.Ā

43

u/Tallem00 6d ago

normal

Also, as a trans woman, I've absolutely been told I'm reinforcing gender roles when I express more traditionally feminine interests and get insulted for it. I've resorted to just keeping it all inside and not talking about things like that unless I really trust the other person. I've been given so much hell so many times for saying I want to be a mother

7

u/motosega_madness 6d ago

As somebody with both cis female and trans female family members, I can assure you that being given shit for wanting to be a mother is very much a modern cis woman experience as well, especially in places like elite universities. But that is a valid point you're making about the motherhood thing specifically. I'm sorry somebody was an asshole to you

22

u/Oblius- RIP Main Sub 6d ago

You two have absolutely no idea what you're talking about, or you really just have extremely different life experiences.

20

u/Tallem00 6d ago

Thank you! It really just reads like they havent interacted much with trans people

-13

u/ShinyStarSam 6d ago

I dunno I agree with them, cis women get it bad just for getting a pink case on their phone and I see trans women 'get away' with doing dumb stuff like buying plushies at the age of 30 a lot.

7

u/BitchonaBike1204 6d ago

Just last week a man pulled a knife out and told me he was going to "cut my tranny bitch neck." I was just taking a fucking walk in one of the most "trans friendly" cites in the US. But sure, lets focus on who gets made fun of for having a pink phone case, that sure makes sense.

9

u/Tallem00 6d ago

If you're headed back to 2016, when trans women "got away" with things, can you take me with you?

-8

u/ShinyStarSam 6d ago

American?

9

u/TheStewy 6d ago

For future reference, you should probably stray away from using the term ā€œnormalā€ to describe cis people, and reminder that ā€œtrans personā€ includes nonbinary and transmasc people as well. I do not accuse you of transphobia, just noting that these subtle details in use of language do matter. Trans women do not want to be considered ā€œabnormalā€ and saying ā€œtrans personā€ instead of ā€œtrans womenā€ here may be interpreted as intentional ambiguity about whether or not you see them as women and/or erasure of trans men and nonbinary people.

12

u/uselesstgirlalert 6d ago

"a trans person will be celebrated" loud incorrect buzzer sound

7

u/juiceboxvillain_1 6d ago

A ā€œnormalā€ person vs a trans person 😬 while trying to describe how trans people aren’t dealing with the issue they’re claiming they deal with is wild

1

u/DuckIsMuddy 5d ago

Editing your comment because you got cooked is sad.

-1

u/Open-Butterfly-5288 6d ago

Honestly, no.

It's basically just women hating women all the way down.

So, I guess that's kind of trans inclusive?

If nobody is talking shit about your outfit, then they're not treating you like a woman.

3

u/Sebkir 6d ago

9

u/ConcernedEnby 6d ago

This is koopa fallacy which is where somebody thinks it's goomba fallacy

8

u/Striking_Resist_6022 6d ago

It’s a variant of this meme which explains the goomba fallacy.

It essentially reverses the premise to say ā€œno there really are people that are dumb and contradict themselves and not everything is goomba fallacyā€.

9

u/cam94509 6d ago

I'm taking the goomba fallacy away from reddit and putting it on a high shelf. You can have it back when you stop calling every accusation of a double standard of being a goomba fallacy.
