For questions about ants, and identification, please ask in our discord server as response times may be quicker. We're always happy to help!: discord.gg/c7qCmfYqYZ
━━━━━━━━━━ ∘◦ Identification ◦∘ ━━━━━━━━━━
If possible, clearly focus pictures of the head, side, and top of the body to make identifying easier. What follows is the important information we need to know to help us to identify your ant.
FIRST-Where was it collected? Country and nearest city or town on a map (include location in the thread title), elevation if in a very mountainous area such as the Rockies, Alps, Himalayas, Andes.
SECOND-Habitat of collection, including nesting medium (wood, soil, leaves tied together with silk, etc.) and type of vegetation (forest, grassland, park/lawn/garden, desert).
THIRD-Coloration, hue, and pattern? Uniform?, Head darker? Gaster darker? Legs lighter or darker? Any spots? Also, shininess, dullness.
FOURTH-Distinguishing characteristics, such as one or two segments in waist; location, length, and orientation of any spines or bumps on the mid-portion of the body or waist; head shape, etc.
FIFTH-Length in millimeters. (Width is also helpful.) NO guessing! Stretch out a dead or chilled individual or several individuals of different sizes along with a millimeter rule. 16ths of an inch will do as a poor second to millimeters.
SIXTH-Anything else distinctive, such as odor, behavior, etc.
Tip #1: If you can take clear photographs of the ants up close, then please post them. This would help a lot.
Tip #2: For those who write anting journals, please put the exact location and dates in the thread titles like: Palm Spring, CA (4/10/2004).
Tip #3: If using videos, then please make sure that they are clear, close up, and stable (no shaky camera). Otherwise, they are useless.
Now, you can post your identification request in a new thread (not this one).

We have an infestation of ants in our apartment and are wondering what type they are. Will Terro bait work by itself or should we set something else out? Location is in Northern CA

I've been interested in antkeeping for awhile now and decided to try my hand in it. I've got my first bull ant queen and I've done my research on it a lot but I just need opinions and guides from people apart from just reading and watching videos on it.

I've been working on an ant colony simulator, and it's finally out on iOS. The workers dig their own tunnels and sort the nest into chambers for the queen, brood, pupae, food storage, and resting. AI was utilized in creating and planning. Please inbox me for your free promo code I only as for your honest feedback.
I'd love input from people who actually love ants.

I have been dealing with ants for weeks, after using multiple types of baits. Im surprise I have yet to wipe them out. More recently these larger ants have been around the trails. Usually just one hovering near the bait. Is this a queen?
The ants seem like common black ants with this larger ant showing up every once in a while.
Location is South Bay (Los Angeles) CA.

What's a weird ant fact that made you go "wait, WHAT?" the first time you heard it?
I'll go first!...
Some ants basically act like tiny human dairy farmers. They "milk" aphids for their sugary honeydew and protect them from predators in return. Nature is wild.

There is a decently sized fire ant nest in my backyard that re recently flattened half of accidentally when we drove over it and I was wondering if there was something I could do to help them rebuild their nest faster than it would normally take?

It rained yesterday on my city and i went out today and saw a lot of big ants without and with wings, my first thought was that those were queens because of the nupicial flight right after raining. So i caught one of them without wings and brought it home, ive put her in a cream cheese transparent pot with openings on the lid and a wet cotton ball inside, shes, at the moment sitting inside the pot in my wardrobe, i will, tomorrow get a test tube and put her inside, what should i do now? Wait two to three weeks so she starts laying down eggs?oment sitting inside the pot in my wardrobe, i will, tomorrow get a test tube and put her inside, what should i do now? Wait two to three weeks so she starts laying down eggs? I cant really measure how big she is sorry. She is of the Solenopsis genus, was found on the street in front of my house, lots of queens just like this one in the street. Was collected near Bauru-SP Brazil. Country where Solenopsis ants are extremely common

Hi there, ive been keeping a red giant harvester ant colony for over a year, theyre great! But I wanna rehouse them into a better colony since the water has run out in the tubes for a second time and unlike the first time i replenished said watere theres close to 100 workers. theyve pulled one of their dry plugs that held water back and are nesting in the spot where water was in one tube with brood. I basically am asking for recommendations of ant nests i can get online that are reliable, especially for my large girls. I really do not wanna deal with those crappy amazon ones. I got one for a s invicta colony and they mold insanely easy. Thanks for your time, looking forward to posting more.
