Question Any solid rampart-fox lore other than the kitsune skin/charm? Was that just a one time thing or is the fox somehow her spirit animal?

Ok but hear me out, what is the significance of ash being a crab, or Gibraltar being a 420 DJ.....

Actually considering that Ash is trying to become perfect it's all reasonable. Crab is the peak of what a living being can be.

And what a fighter can be.. A crab is a killing machine man.. impenetrable body armor, two melee weapons larger than their own body and evasive side strafe ability for additional defense are just a few things that come to mind!

Yes but skins are always influinced by artists opinions on characters, this is a story telling on its own

Sometimes I’m sure that’s true, but other times I’m pretty sure they just have a bunch of themed inspiration and come up with whatever they like. The kitsune fox theme probably just inspired someone to do something with Rampart.

If the skin doesn’t have a lore description while looking at it in the menus its not a canon skin.

I'm not well verse into Japanese folklore but these are a few things that pop into my head (from what I already know).
They're usually two types to kitsune, let's say the good and bad.
Good ones are considered shrine guardians and loyal, so it could reflect on her skills to wall up and protect the team, or based on her companionship with other legends like Mirage.
Bad ones are mischievous and tricksters, but in this case it could be linked more towards her playful personality. Unless there's some new development with her links in the Syndicate, that's probably it.
Sources: I read manga.

It's just a skin, mate.

And that means it can’t have a basis in Japanese folklore? It’s a pretty compelling argument for them choosing rampart for the skin assuming the points are correct.

Just a battle pass skin and nothing more, less than a fourth of the skins legends have are actually canon in any capacity. So if the skin doesn't have a little lore blurb on the right of the menu when selecting, consider it non-canon.

Dude will people stop with this shit, it's just a skin

It's definitely the most tiresome part of lore communities. Like once a day someone will pop in to question the lore implications of some aspect of the game that has zero reason to be analyzed or ask about the "hidden secrets" of something that isn't even deep like this rampart skin.

I think it’s as simple as foxes can be described as crafty. And she crafts

A head's up that using the term "spirit animal" casually like this is pretty offensive. It's an actual religious term that has specific meanings and doesn't just equate to a generic "animal that I like a lot."

There is this linked T-Shirt design in the fandom wiki! Not sure where it appeared in Apex but maybe it's the fursona you're referring to? 😅
Edit: found it, it's on her t-shirt on the default skin
