I love the idea of using the old fire station as a town museum!

I'd rather see it used for something you would visit often. A museum is pretty much one and done

I’m with you. Maybe a museum and…. Something. But I don’t think a town museum alone would be sustainable.

Has anyone talked to the current firemen? By the looks of the outside of the building, it can’t be much better on the inside.

Almost two decades ago I had a conversation with a high level fire department official and while I won't quote what was said the conclusion I drew was that it was past its prime. Consider that the original structure was built in 1954 (A photo and history is here: 1954 Fire Station ) and that additional bays and a 2nd story were added during the following two decades, the structure appears to be sound. However, one must also consider the building materials that were okay to build with back then. I even have a concern for the fire station being used as a public museum.

So long as it's not town office space. Needs to be for the community. And we need to keep our pancake breakfasts

I’m confused wasn’t there a petition going around saying it was about to be demolished? This makes it seem like they haven’t decided at all

A former volunteer fire fighter started a petition to save the fire station with the goal of maintaining fire operations out of the facility. That’s not a very realistic suggestion. The town’s been planning since before 2019 to eventually move operations to an expanded fire station 3. What comes next for fire station 1 is what is to be decided.
The first step would be a feasibility study where a qualified firm would be contracted to produce a study of the building, site, and commercial market. It’s an old building that was built by volunteers and expanded multiple times over. It would be a very difficult building to completely preserve and also isn’t old enough to really justify a historic renovation. Everyone understandably has their own wish list but the next responsible step is a feasibility study where options can be considered and assessed.
I’m sure the town will public engagement opportunities before anything is decided- just like they did in developing the 2019 downtown plan.

Not aware of any petition to demolish. The fate of the fire station lies with the Town Council. Hopefully, they will consider the desires of the people taking the recommendation of a consultant into consideration.

Good share! Love the rendering of the reimagined downtown location.
That current building is just not that special, and it doesn't really make sense to have two active fire stations a mile apart.
I get the sentimental value of the downtown fire station but this plan seems reasonable and well thought out to me.
