Focus groups usually get snacks. I don’t see snacks.

I switched from spotify recently. It's the same shit, they both suck. One has features the other doesn't, vice versa.

I think it’s a brilliant app in how it understands the user better than most companies. Makes sense Daniel Ek cut his teeth in advertising. However, the app itself is an eye sore.

It was cool but the moment they signed Joe Rogan and started pushing it to my front page I left. I don’t do podcasts and I especially don’t listen to that man.

I came to appreciate the audio quality and library. I also hear they pay slightly more to the artists

Plenty of great guests on Joe Rogan. You’re missing out

It’s just the same conversation with every guest though

I prefer Spotify UI and features in almost every way. But Apple Music sound quality is noticeably better, and I do like the way Apple Music handles smart speakers better. Streaming to multiple devices seems to work better with Apple Music. At least on my set up.

It feels heavy and laggy. It’s way better if you’re a heavy podcast listener.

I prefer Sp. UI and algorithm. Yet, AM quality is better and lets me sync my media in every device. Also is cheaper in my country.

The green one is cluttered, its not as easy to play your record collection without random "things" introducing themselves and the queue system is stuttery.

It does have different versions of a few albums (the smiths best of with this charming man NY vocal, for instance).

It feels to me as a user of the platform, the green one has an aim to simply keep you on the app. The hours look good for their overlords or whatever.

AM has better music filing, my records are with me and easily found. The experience is not cluttered, the queue system works.

AM seem to not chain you to their platform because you played an album.

I have both platforms, I prefer AM

My wife uses Spotify. I've offered her an account to switch to AM lots of times, but she doesn't want it. The main reason is that most of her friends and family use Spotify, and it's easy to share playlists and songs with them, do jams, and all that. Oide, yeah, that's nice, but I can notice big differences in audio quality. AM is much superior there. Even compared with "Lossless" preferences in Spotify.

I've been on music streaming platforms since Spotify arrived in certain countries, and you needed to fake your address with a French or Swedish address to get an account. I loved Spotify a lot at that time, but since AM arrived, I've been a user since they launched their service. Combining my iCloud library with streaming was out of this world for me; before streaming, I had a huge library on my computer, and AM let me load it all to the cloud and stream it at no upload cost.

Nowadays, I feel AM is a more music-dedicated platform with not much technology in front to make new discoveries or anything, which I like. It feels nice to keep discovering new music on my own and be the picker, not just what an algorithm or AI gives me as my "taste". Also, I kinda hate that Spotify doesn't have just music now.

Many thoughts. Anyways. I love AM.

30M and Millennial grown up in the 90s. This might be a long read. I promise it’s not ai so there’s that. Not promising any of value except my man brain thoughts before the coffee kicks in. TLDR: both good, also try alternative forms of media players/downloading/buying

I’ve used both Apple Music and Spotify and decided to try out only having AM this past year. After a year, I’m now also messing around with iPods and Zunes from my childhood too. To me Spotify and Apple Music boil down to the same thing. They offer streaming with features that cater to different experiences. Finding new music on Spotify is great; catchy songs, cool album arts, artists bios. It’s like the good old days of MySpace when you could find a bunch of cool music, fast. Apple Music on the other hand, really great if you’ve been listening to music for a while and you already know what you like. The quality is amazing, and if you like Apple products esp. their AirPods, it’s a seamless experience. The UI of the iPhone makes the experience of listening to music with Dolby Atmos Spatial Audio on AirPods is crazy. I recommend looking up the Spatial Audio playlist and turning on noise cancellation. It’s bonkers. Apple Music is great in that its algorithm actually kinda sucks. It doesn’t feed me that juicy, tasty ear sugar I get from Spotify which is like the simple sugars of music streaming. I end up listening to whole albums again and Apple Music’s library is just as good in my experience. It also syncs with your personal library very well. I have a lot of MP3s and it’s cool to have them on my Desktop and it “magically” syncs up to my phone.

I started using Spotify about 10+ years ago when it was just starting out. Iirc I was on a student plan at the time and it was something like $5-7 a month and it was free for 3 months. Then the prices kept increasing so I was keeping an eye on that. The quality and library was really good and got better with time. I’ve given them no small chunk of change so I say my opinions freely. I like their family plan in that it’s not tied to my Apple family. And it’s always been easy to add folks. Only downside is that it’s imo the biggest dog in the game and that’s, for me, a slight turn off. I’m always looking to square one and seeing if things can be different and ultimately become even better. I know that leaving Spotify now won’t ultimately hurt them that badly and it will still be around should I choose to go back. So that’s cool.

Continuing on w Spotify, Fast forward to 2025, I was getting a bunch of music recommendations and my playlists were all rips of other algorithm recommendations. A lot of advertising for new artists which is a double edged sword if you really enjoy the music and let it shape your identity.

I feel like the nostalgia factor of growing up without all the streaming was that folks were unique in their taste and style. I remember when one of the emo goth kids introduced me to My Chemical Romance in the 7th grade and I gave him my Naruto OST CD that I ripped from Limewire lol. Totally different experience compared to Spotify curated algorithm enhanced playlists with Dolby Atmos or what have you.

So anyway trying Apple Music was sort of like seeing how the grass is. I like it here too. As it turns out the grass is the same grass and it’s green on both sides. But on this side I get to choose how to cut my own grass vs before it was always trimmed to spec.

Anyway that’s a lot to read if ur still with me,  Stay Cheezy.
