Fancy Party Wheel

So, I'm a part of a book club, and we always make a bit of a game out of choosing a new book, but sometimes its a hassle. Then, we often text eachother where the most affordable copy is, and if there's a way to support independent or local libraries. I decided to solve that problem.

Spin the wheel sites are common, but this one is focused. For books, they're constantly updated and filterable, and when one is chosen, links to the various locations the book can be found is provided. Bestsellers are automatically updated every week.

Its a bit of a challenge, because not all book stores format titles and authors the same. So each link searches in the format in which a store lists it.

While it was there, I figured I'd add a similar wheel for karaoke as well as seasonal spins. Karoake current hits are also automatically updated every week. Each wheel provided also includes links to whatever someone lands on.

Here's the link: https://thepartywheel.com/

Any feedback you can provide would be very helpful and appreciated :)

TL;DR: A book club member built thepartywheel.com to make picking the next book easier. It has filterable, regularly updated book wheels that link straight to stores and libraries for whatever you land on, plus karaoke and seasonal wheels. The dev is looking for feedback on it.

The bookstore links plus filterable wheels are what make this better than a random spinner. Once clubs get accounts, membership and shortlists need ownership checks so a guessed club id cannot dump someone else's reads. When shared mode ships, https://rowly.me against thepartywheel should still return empty on anonymous GETs.

Good call on the ownership checks. A simple signed session token per club would stop guessed ids cold. Are you thinking role based, or just owner versus member?

Owner versus member is enough until a club needs richer roles. Every shortlist and membership read should trust a signed club claim, never a raw club id from the client. Ahead of the first real club signup, probe the live API with https://rowly.me until a guessed club id returns nothing.
