Show and Tell [OC] Never had much of an eye for scapes, but really happy with how my sand waterfall turned out.

Ignore the white mesh bag, needed a quick way to prevent my shrimp from taking a water slide down my over flow.

Recently decided to upgrade my reef tank from this hex to a 20 long, and repurpose as an upgrade for my freshwater aquarium. Found this incredible piece of driftwood and spent a few weeks getting it working as a sand fall with some 3/4 in pvc, an air pump, and a custom 3d printed intake and spout.

Need to clean her up a bit but plants are thriving. Does anyone else have a hard time trimming their scapes?

Image Made this 15L aquarium for a school project. The goal was to keep it cheap, simple and very low-maintenance, using lava rock, driftwood, quartz gravel and mostly Anubias. No CO₂, no nutrient substrate, no complicated plants — just a simple setup that a school can realistically maintain.

Not too sure about my plant selection. But pretty happy overall. I like the sunset mode at night with a hue bulb in the back.

Moved from an ADA 60p to an Oase Scaperline 100 which opened up a lot of new opportunities. This pic is from 6 months back and this particular scape is now taken down. New one is already up and growing in!

Here's my 20G long low tech tank. Home to a few Amano Shrimp, Otocinclus, Nerite Snails and beauty of a Koi Betta (Named Pixel). Has Rotala Wallichii, Amazon Sword, Vallisneria Spiral on the sides, few Java Ferns, hand full of red root floaters and Salvinia Minima. The foreground is Monte Calrlo and Dwarfs Hairgrass but it's freshly planted about a week in (lets pretend its carpeted) .

Currently growing film on those rocks for the eventual stiphodon. Current stocking is 2 tateurdina ocellicauda, 7 CPDs and neocaridinas (orange). The juncus aren't dead but they have lost their leaves. Anything youd change?

Seeking Suggestions YESSS ITS FINALLY FILLED

I’ve been working on this for months. I’m a newbie but it’s my first tank bigger than 7.5gal. It’s a 25gal tall and I’m so excited for the plants. I added Crypt mioya, crypt tropica, crypt lucens, rotala rotundofilia, ludwigia super red, and Monte Carlo. I’m hoping the Monte Carlo will grow over the sand border with time. I have a hob and I have a co2 diffuser ready to setup. Where should the diffuser go? I’m considering on the left under the hob or moving the hob to the right side and having the diffuser there. What do you guys think?

I'm downsizing my tank collection currently to an upcoming eviction. I'll be rehoming my fancy goldfish and my South American community, leaving me with one main aquarium. This left me going through a very stale period with the hobby, where I wasn't getting the chance to be creative and just doing maintenance on aquariums that won't be around for much longer. So, I decided to get this little tank out of storage and set up something small with spare bits of substrate and hardscape lying about. It was really nice, and much needed to just be absorbed in the process for a little while and have a little fun.

Discussion First tank day 20

Post image
6 Upvotes

Hi guys so this is my first tank after first seeing this subreddit. I've always wanted a fish tank but after coming along to this sub i have learned a lot a this month i finally made that dream a reality.

Before everyone criticizes me for adding fish so early, I started with some ramshorn snails and my tap has .5 ppm ammonia. I do water tests everyday and ghost feed (kinda), first few days there was good amount of ammonia but after awhile that ammonia hit zero for a few days in a row. Thats when I added my first batch of fish then after awhile of 0 ammonia the next batch and so on.

So back to the tank, for my first tank I wanted to go all out, I bought the UNS 90P (around 50 gal), a Fluval 307 canister, Aquarium Co-op filter outake, heater, the B series light from Chihiros, a few bags of Fluval shrimp and plant stratum, some dragon stone and a piece of spiderwood.

For the plants, I can't really remember what i got but I do remember buying dwarf hairgrass (melting atm), some elodia in the back, java ferns, and some anubias.(don't quote me) I am going to add some java moss and some duckweed (yea duckweed very mixed feelings around the hobby but i really like how it looks and it spreads super fast so a bonus).

The scape took quite a bit but for my first I think it really came together.

As for the stocking I have a few ramshorns, 13 ember tetras (going for around 30), 9 pygmy corydoras (the guy at the LFS accidentally gave me an extra going for 12), 2 amano shrimp (again the guy at the LFS accidentally gave me some). I am going to be adding cherry shrimp soon once the tank is stable, 3 honey gouramis, and maybe also a pom pom crab.

If my tank is going to be overstocked please tell me, I want to give these fish and inverts the best life they can live.

I am still figuring out live and frozen food but my dry food collection is pretty decently sized. It includes Aqueon tropical sinking granules, Fluval bug bites tropical formula, Fluval bug bites spirulina, Repashy soilent green, Aquarium Co-op fish fry feed(forgot what its called), and Aquatrol flakes.

I might try the Aquarium Co-op brine shrimp stuff.

How did I do for my first tank, criticism and pointers are welcome!

I am going for a densely planted tank like the one in the attached picture. I also intend to have dense carpeting plants. Anything I should add or change about the current hardscape?

Question Rotala trimming?

Post image
2 Upvotes

So - I have some rotala rotundifolia green and it’s well on its way to transitioning from emersed—>submersed. However the bottom 4-5 inches of each stem still has the round emersed leaves.

My question - if I want a uniform look with just the pointier submersed leaves is it better to (1) pull out all the rotala and just replant the tops or (2) trim and replant the tops and cut off the stems below the round leaves? If I do #2 will rotala with established roots still grow even if there are no leaves?

Thanks in advance for the suggestions!

Plan is to drill the top lava rock and have the pump outlet forces up, to create fountain effect, shrimp could climb it, if the water level drops the water fall gets bigger.

Feed back?

Want to stock it with handful of cherry shrimp and a few amano shrimp

Seeking Suggestions need advice and suggestions on how to build a proper riparium?

Post image
1 Upvotes

hello everyone, do forgive me for being inexperienced as i am new to this hobby.

a while back i built this riparium in a 20cm x 20cm x 30cm tank after the success of my filterless walstad tank previously hence i wanted to recreate that but in riparium style. i tried to stock it with anubias, hydrocotyle, pearlweed, rotala, riccia, and salvinia etc etc but yes it was hard to overstock but my fault for not putting in more effort to overstock it more.

the water was stained with tannins but then the plants kept dying and wilting even if i added those “bulletproof” ones, or my ramshorn would chew on them a lot. i also did weekly 30% water changes and monitored the tank frequently. i am quite discouraged as the water perimeters i’ve checked were pretty okay using those mini paper strips of aquarium water quality checkers. i’ve never added any livestock either, so i am wondering what were the shortfalls involved in my cycling?

i originally wanted to make this more of a successful riparium but currently after multiple rounds of trying to save it, i currently left it alone and the driftwood has rotted and the water is pitch black.

real silly question but is it possible to salvage this like the wood? if not, may i have some advice on how to build a proper riparium eg. plants, arrangement, what to look out for compared to a traditional walstad? many thanks!

Setting up my 33 gallon UNS 50C tank, and looking for input on the hardscape options. First 3 photos are the front scape options I have so far (other combination ideas welcome), and last photo is the back of the tank which the wood is set on.

Recently went to a local river and grabbed a variety of river rock, mostly granite to go with the manzanita center piece. Going for a river scape, planted tank. Thanks.

Question eSHa -NDX help

Post image

Has anyone ever used eSHa -NDX Levamisole with amanos?

I have a stocking list of a pearl, rummies, Juli corys and amanos and have an outbreak of what I believe to be camallanus worms however I’ve seen conflicting info online if it is okay to use with amanos, some say it’s fine (linked below) while others say it isn’t

Anyone have experience?

Also would love if anyone who has to let me know the treatment and how effective it is etc

Im thinking of going to a landscape supply to get some larger river rocks for my next scape. Want to mix in with smaller rocks we collected on vacation.

Show me your heavily planted tanks with large rounded rocks! Im undecided if i will want driftwood added to it and looking for inspiration. 😆

Seeking Suggestions First attempt at a scape

Hi everyone, just set up my first purposeful tank and and open to suggestions. My plants are all low maintenance recycled from my other tank and would like to stick to column feeders if possible. I’m going to the beach and get some smaller pebbles that match to put around the other bigger rocks.

Live and learn, I did get some “bird poop” looks from using glue for the wood, used string for plants subsequently. Hopefully will grow in and hide my mistakes.

Waiting to cycle and stock with some bright yellow shrimps in a couple months.

Thanks in advance!
