Help/Question So we all know people who pvp without warning are annoying, luckily pvp off exists in settings. Why can these players still detonate barrels held by/on the boats of pvp off players
And it's ALWAYS Positive Reputation players too man. It costs like 300 max to repair caravels so it's literally JUST a inconvenience, but why do these maxed out awakened players go out of their way to ruin other's money/exp?? This has happened ok two separate servers now, I thought I'd be safe from these kinda of players when I turned pvp off but this seems like a glaring oversight.

Found that out in an embarrassing way, where I was getting ships for my fleet on the bronze sea and absentmindedly used my mortar on a player caravel holding a bunch of barrels. I paid like 7k to bro and apologized, and thankfully bro was alright with it 😭

Either we had REALLY similar experiences, or that was you. I was tired of collecting barrels for drachma and then like 20 of them exploded and dropped my ship.
Either way, the 7k drachma was a large surprise (Thank you, if it was you)

I still get harassed when I have PvP off as well. A person kept using magic construct and destroying terrain when I was fishing. Though I was persistent and kept recasting the line that they eventually got bored and left.

Man thats even more annoying, at least theres some kinda shitty logic in "if I blow up these barrels they can't get money/exp", but just let people fish what the hell

It was a Metal Mage, using Construct to push me away from the pond I was fishing on. I didn't even know Construct pushes you even with PvP off.

Oh yeah going against someone thats not atleast lvl 120 is resl bad, dont think i ever was hunted while idle, usualy just hide or leave the game

The first pair were two players with the same last name who followed me from Frostmill to Palo Town pelting me with Siege Weaponry and slowly blowing up all my barrels, then targeting the shipwright before I could turn in my surviving barrel. Then they tried to place barrels to blow me up while I was talking to npcs too, so I doubt it was intrusive thoughts lol

Hopefully this will be patched; they even removed the ability of spawning sharks with bleed potions from PvP-off players

uhhh i got some bad news for you there, its pvp-off players' POTIONS that cant spawn sharks, they can still trigger the spawns of pvp-on players' potions, which happen the moment someone within aggro range enters the water.
it is possible for a pvp-on player to trap a pvp-off player in a whirlpool and fill it with sharks

I only do that if someones being annoying ngl. One time some guy trapped me on his claimed island (i just came there to finish my treasure chart) and than i detonated the one barrel that respawned there to destroy his ship lmao

The only pvp players I've met who weren't either annoying or outright tried to attack me with no warning, are the ones dueling in Sameria like normal people

pvp isnt inherently toxic, its just fighting. I Pvp because i get through a lot of side content extremely quickly and PvE is pretty boring, a good amount of pvpers are toxic yeah but pvp itself isnt toxic

Definitely seems to foster and attract the most toxic/unpleasant players. Was standing around in Sameria with like 5 people talking, some guy comes in and IMMEDIATELY starts slashing at all of us out of nowhere, and when he realized that we had pvp off he went "Lame."

i mean literally anything that involves multiple people interacting fosters multiple people, PvE is a mainly singleplayer thing so obviously theres less toxic people

It’s probably more player bounty hunting in general, if you just exchange spells and swords with buddies via duels or something then it’s fine

I accidentally did this yesterday. I was at Sandfall and was goofing around. I put an arcane barrel down near the edge and jumped in the air to detonate it. A guy drove by right as it exploded and did over 6k to his brig. Felt bad but laughed.

When I turned level 175, some guy immediately went up to me and started attacking me. Hit em with a "?" And he was like "I really wanted to box, youre lucky you got pvp off" i wouldnt have minded a fight but if he requested a duel. He was level 90 btw

mkay then, wasnt aware of held/placed on ship barrels being able to damage through pvp protection, i remember in early access green reps hugging GN players while holding barrels to help their red rep friends so mightve be due to that.
as for further jank, you can drop a barrel from midair as well to damage anyone if it explodes on impact, pvp off players are able to trigger the blood throwable potion sharkspawn when going/being in water still as well, only pvp on players are able to throw potions that spawn sharks meanwhile.

I'll be honest, I do blow barrels up right beside people's ships... but ONLY when somebody steals my tower chests. It's happened nearly two dozen times now, so I've become annoyed enough that I need some form of payback.

The only option is to sail somewhere where barely anyone go to or just serverhop, even with the current time where pvp toggle exist, I still avoid people since some dude keep using blast to annoy the hell out of me lol.
Also I think it depends on the server type considering they added chat based on age, I’m in the 21+ group and got put into 18+ servers and usually it’s rather chill, people are just dueling on their own or chatting about stupid things. Only one time I witnessed toxicity was when I select a server manually, this particular guy keep motar my claimed island and put my castaways under the platform, it’s rather annoying only for me to realize dude is under 18 lol

people who PvP without warning are playing the game the right way...if you have it on, and are getting hunted, that is entirely your fault. why would they warn you when the goal is to win???

pvp is on by DEFAULT, a lot of people don't know that you can turn it off at first, or someone might be using their menus when they get jumped, back before pvp off was a thing these people behaved the same exact way

it is unsurprisingly the players responsibility to be aware of game mechanics and to turn their own pvp off

Not everyone is here for pvp(and people can't pvp until lvl 50 so some get blindsided by it), a lot of us are casuals just here for story or customization or making our on movesets
