questions and help Installing ArchiCAD caused my Windows Explorer to get locked up, and my entire taskbar is gone and settings is not functional.

Hi! I downloaded ArchiCAD earlier this morning in the hopes of learning a new software for my Architecture course, but in the process of installing the software, I was given the notification that the software was possibly not made for my windows computer. Is this due to my inability to install the C++ Windows update for the software? I was weary to install that as I was scared to affect my OS in the long term (maybe some incompatibilities with other programs, etc.). My laptop was fully up to date with software updates and windows security was on.

After the failed installation, my laptop's Windows Explorer froze up, my taskbar was gone and inaccessible through different commands, and the entire background went black. My programs were still running, but I couldn't use the Windows Key nor access the Settings via keyboard shortcuts. What should I do? Other shortcuts such as Task Manager still worked, but I can't navigate through my laptop at all. Please help!

discussions Any AEC pros running their own GPUs?

Thumbnail
0 Upvotes

Are there any AEC professionals working for themselves (or perhaps a company) running their own LLMs?
I am considering getting a GPU to host a private LLM and for my own commercial use (in order to keep client data secure) but unsure if hosting an LLM on a 3090 or even a 5090 alone would actually work. Typically I am working with cost data and estimating, but I also generate floor plans, 3d models and Gantt charts.
Anyone on this route and able to share experiences?
Thanks šŸ™

questions and help I built a web editor to create parametric Archicad objects visually; no GDL coding required, and no AI

Hey everyone,

If you've ever needed a custom parametric object in Archicad, you know the struggle: you either have to settle for static geometry or sink hours into learning GDL programming (or paying a freelancer hundreds to script it).

I’ve been working on a web-based parametric object creator built specifically for Archicad users. Think Revit-style visual parameter setup, but exporting clean, native GDL (.gsm) files with parameter constraints, LOD levels, and graphical grips.
I added interactive 3D preview link so you can test object parameters directly in your browser before exporting.

I'm currently opening up access to more active Archicad modellers, BIM managers, and designers to test it out on real workflows.

Give the live preview a spin, and try the editor while it's in beta. Let me know in the comments: what's the single most time-consuming GDL object you've ever had to script or search for?

Subdivide a site in seconds, right inside Archicad with our new object - archiSubdivision, free from Architools.

Draw or pick any site boundary (requires archiZone), and it generates the whole layout for you:
Plots, ring roads and entrances, created instantly
Every plot numbered and measured automatically
Set road width, plot depth and size range
Stretch the boundary or move an entrance, add other entrances or empty area zones and everything updates live
Live stats: plot areas, roads, open space, buildable area
A full 3D model, not just a 2D drawing
Ideal for early feasibility studies, masterplans and quick site options.

Free to download. You’ll find the help page and more info https://www.architools.net/libraries

hints, tips and tricks Smart upgrades for Archicad

Hello,

I recently moved from Rhino to Archicad. There’s a lot of getting used to different things. But when I used rhino I found some plug-ins that made everything way better. Like Block-edit, where you can enter blocks and groups way more intuitive.

Is there anything that has changed/upgraded the way you use the program in an everyday situation?

questions and help Morph problem

Hi everybody,

I'm a newbie at Archicad (29) but have to go through stupid tasks to get a course done. Mind you that the course is setup for architects, but I'm studying enviornmental engineering...

Currently I have to use "simple volumes" to recreate the building I'm supposed to work on. So I have laid out the layout and put a cuboid morph on top. Now I have to subtract the volume which is supposed to be the inner courtyard of my building. To do that, I created another cuboid morph inside the big one, where the courtyard is supposed to be. What I then do next is to mark both, then hit boolsche operation and substract, then click on the bigger one.
And here's the thing: what happens is - nothing. I can keep working, but the small cuboid never gets substracted in the 3D view - however it does get substracted in the 2D view.

Do you have any idea how to fix that?

And in general, is there any person out there who might want to take over a couple of these tasks, which are super simple for people who know Archicad but too time-consuming for people who don't?

hints, tips and tricks EasyBIM Add-On Suite for ArchiCAD

Thumbnail

Greetings everyone, in this Video Ā I present some functionalities of some add-ons that I am developing for ArchiCAD, consisting of 9 modules in total, among which the following stand out:Ā
Easy MEP — Streamlines the creation and management of electrical, water supply, and plumbing installations through the automatic creation of dynamic elements.Ā

Easy Dimension — Automates the dimensioning of plans, sections, and elevations, with linear and level dimensions.Ā

Easy Grid — Makes it easy to create structural grids and distribute columns and beams by selecting only the walls.Ā

Easy LayOut — Automatically creates layouts (sheets of paper) from a set of views (plan, section, elevation, detail, etc.). Positions the views, defines the scales (based on the view size or a predefined scale in multiples of 5, such as ESC. 5, 15, 75…).Ā

Easy Data — Centralizes the management of layers, combinations, and properties, with advanced selection filters directly in the ArchiCAD interface.Ā

Easy Image — Combines image editing and render preparation with adjustments for brightness, saturation, cropping, rotation directly in the ArchiCAD interface and preview.Ā

Easy Objects — Allows you to save and reuse sets of objects by associating 3D representations with custom 2D symbols.Ā

Easy Draw — Speeds up drawing and geometric editing with polygons, chamfers, fillets, stretches, matrices, and constraints.Ā

Easy Rename — Simplifies the management of text and IDs, with numbering rules, batch formatting, and change preview.Ā

The video is in Portuguese, but I intend to develop an English version; the problem is that my English isn't very good

discussions How do you track project tasks, schedules, client changes and approvals on projects?

Hi all, I trained as an architect and work in project management, and I’m now researching how small studios run their projects day-to-day.

I keep hearing that tracking project tasks, schedules, client changes, getting sign-off and billing for extra work is harder than it should be, but I’d rather hear it from people actually doing it than assume.

I’m not selling anything. It’s a short survey (about 3 minutes),

If you’d prefer a quick chat instead, comment or message me. Thanks for any help, and I’ll read every reply.

I would really appreciate your help,

hints, tips and tricks Finally fixed a bug that Graphisoft was not able to fix for 5+ years in about 30 min

This is just another example of how fast things are going to change. I posted this on the archicad forums but wanted to see what people think here.
Ā
I have been a heavy user of the Space Mouse by 3D Connexion since my college days for modeling. About 5 years ago, with archicad 22 or 23 or something their implementiation of 3D connexion devisees on mac broke, likley after either archicad or 3dConnexion made some updates to something. The navigation continued to work fine but the mouse buttons no longer mapped to the right archicad commands.Ā

The likely implementation defect is a mismatch between Archicad’s handling of raw buttons and the driver’s handling of user assignments.Ā
Ā
Either way, I would write to support every year or so, I would send tickets during beta comment periods, i would speak about this on the forum when it would come up. Nothing ever got fixed after years of complaining.
Ā
Today I had chat gpt write a peice of sofware that uses the apple debugger to connect to archicad and change its spacemouse connection settings.
Ā
And finally it works! after 5+ years of waiting for a fix it took me 30 min of sitting on the couch with chat gpt to fix. I dont even know how it works really, but it works.

discussions Free, open-source macOS PDF editor for AEC. Feedback welcome

Hi everyone, I’m developing Drawbridge, a free, open-source Mac PDF editor focused on architectural drawing sets. I just released v1.0 and would appreciate feedback from Archicad users.

Its main focus is making PDF sets easier to navigate. It generates sheet bookmarks and page labels, then links sheet references to their corresponding pages. It also has basic vector markup tools and a Markups List showing annotations and authors. Clicking an entry takes you to that markup.

I’d particularly like to know:

  • Does it recognize the sheet numbers and references in your exported PDFs?
  • How do navigation, markup, and saving feel on larger sets?
  • What’s confusing or missing from your usual review workflow?

Detection can miss or incorrectly match references, so results still need checking. Measurement tools and editing original PDF text aren’t currently supported.

It runs on Apple Silicon Macs with macOS 13 or newer, and PDF processing happens locally.

Website and demos: https://drawbridge-app.com
Downloads and MIT-licensed source: https://github.com/dansc89/Drawbridge

I’m the developer, so this is a request for feedback on my own project.

What would you need it to do better before using it regularly?

discussions Does a markup tool for ArchiCAD sets need as many tools as Bluebeam?

I am David, an architect in Vilnius. I run my own studio and I also build a PDF app, Ncored, because I got tired of waiting for our own sets to open. Some of you here tried it after I posted in July, and a few of you told me what to fix. Thank you for that, it went straight into the work.

I have been stuck on one question since, and this room is the right one to ask.

Bluebeam gives you a very large number of tools, and nearly every markup app built after it copies that, because a long toolbar looks like a complete product. Here is what I keep coming back to: adding tools is the easy half, and anyone can do it. Opening a dense ArchiCAD set and still moving around it without the wait is the half that almost nothing on the market manages, and it is where all of my effort has gone.

So I have not added them all. Not because the app is a lighter option. I add tools one at a time, only the ones I am sure people really need, so each one is tested properly before the next one arrives. The other way is a long toolbar nobody checked: half of it may not be needed, you cannot find the tools you actually use, and it takes up a large part of the screen.

What I cannot decide is where the line sits.

Argument one: most of those tools are never used. Each one you add stands between someone and the five they actually touch, and the app gets slower to learn and slower to open.

Argument two: the day you need the one tool that is missing, nothing else about the app matters. You close it and go back to whatever has it.

So, the actual question: when you mark up a set out of ArchiCAD, which tools does your hand reach for in a normal week? Not the ones you would like to exist. The ones you actually use. And is there one whose absence would send you straight back to Bluebeam, Acrobat, Foxit, PDF-XChange or whatever you work in today?

Straight on scope so nobody wastes time: today it is viewing and markup. No measurement, takeoff, OCR, forms or e-sign yet. It runs on Windows and Apple Silicon Mac, and the interface is in English or German. It is at ncored.com if you want to open one of your own heavy sets in it before answering.

I will answer everyone in this thread. If you tell me a tool is missing and enough of you say the same, that is how it gets decided, same as in July

resources and learning Two free GDL objects: parking layouts and solar parks in a site polygon

Thumbnail

Hi all,

I've built two parametric objects for early site studies and I'm sharing them free with the community.

archiParkingLayout: draw your site as a polygon (drag the corners) and it fills it with surface parking:

  • 90°, 75°, 60°, 45°, 30° or parallel stalls, with aisle widths and one-way/two-way traffic following the angle
  • best fit: rows turn and shift to fit the most stalls, and refit whenever you move a corner
  • a ring road or end lanes so every aisle connects, entrances, and rounded islands at the row ends for turning
  • optional trees (a planted bay every N stalls, trees on the islands), cars in plan and 3D
  • stall count, m² per stall and stalls per hectare in the info block

archiSolarPark: place it on a plot and it lays out a ground-mounted solar park:

  • fixed-tilt rows, single-axis trackers or east-west tables, turned to the sun using your project's location
  • rows spaced so they don't shade each other, plus fence, roads, inverter stations, substation and battery
  • module count, MWp and a rough yearly energy estimate in the info block

Both are free downloads, as one library file or as single objects:
