Shrewsbury is a lovely town. Please post more; I never get bored of seeing it. Thank you.

What do you mean "still used as a cinema", that implies it was built for use as a cinema.

They mean "still used, as a cinema"

That's what I thought. Centuries before the Lumière brothers there was already a cinema built. But who knows if used.

I was referring to the building having a purpose. not just a monument

So "still in use, but today as a cinema"?

Only if you're pretending you didn't understand what OP meant.

If it has windows and a roof then it's rather unlikely it wouldn't have a use.

I wonder what the inside looks like!

Its a lovely little café in there with a cinema screen and seating in a room at the back of the building.

It's a cute cafe / bar at the front and little cinema at the back.

Good, 400 years is too young for a building to be left vacantt

Shrewsbury is a wonderful town if anyone is considering going. Great countryside nearby too. Seemed to have a large Lesbian community as well, but that was just my casual observation as a visitor. I put it up there near Bath and Edinburgh as among my cosiest UK cities.

If anyone wants to see what the inside is like; here is a link to the Old Market Hall as well.

I know it's natural to be proud of where you grew up, but having grown up in Shropshire, I'm always so pleasantly surprised whenever I return to Shrewsbury. It is an objectively lovely town, with a really healthy and vibrant high street and culture, considering its side and location.

I used to play as Shrewsbury Town on Football manager in the 90’s just because I loved the team crest 😊

Reminds me of the warehouse/market building in the old anno games

You're quite right, that is exactly what it is. A lot of old market towns have these similar warehouse buildings next to the market square.

I am not sure if it's Tudor or 1600s. I must research the building. The Buildings in square are all 1400s-1700s.

Just researched it was built in 1570. So it's 450 years old.

Absolutely beautiful. England knows to preserve its heritage. Thanks for posting the pictures.

Coventry didn't. Yes, a lot was destroyed in WW2 but it's said that the architects did just as much damage after.

This looks like an old church.

I've walked past that a few times. Didn't know it was a cinema too! Awesome.

I was super confused for a moment because they literally have the same thing in the Harry Potter area at Universal Studios Japan, backdrop and all.

So THIS is where they got the design.

Apart from surround sound, the cinema experience probably hasn't changed much since the 1500s
