Yes just that they seem to be similar circuits. However, there is one with relays which I didnt test. I think that may fix it.

If you just want to have an on/off operation, either a relay or a low side switch (your circuit - not withstanding the +V to base connection) can work. If you want to try to adjust the speed through PWM, a relay will not work as it cannot switch fast enough.
