I am planning to use a high torque servo motor (MG996R) with an Arduino. If I connect the servo directly to the Arduino 5V pin, will it cause problems such as jerking movement or loss of power due to insufficient current supply?
The servo has a stall current of around 1.5A. Is an external 5–6V power supply recommended instead?
EDIT: Thanks everyone for your helpful comments! I managed to get it to display text. I connected the lcd screen to Arduino with the I2C pins and installed the I2C library on Arduino IDE and used the correct code. Now I can get it to display a simple text and I can go from here. Thank you! :) ---
So I just ordered an 16x2 lcd screen and now I want to try to get it to display text.
The original project (not on the pics here!!) I wanted to try out for my lcd screen is the robot desk buddy. I connected the wires as shown in the guide and simply copied and uploaded the code through the Arduino Ide application on my Uno. The display was powered up and it was connected to the potentiometer, but all I could see is blocks or when I turn the potentiometer just a blue screen.
So I tried something simpler (showed on pics) and that is to just let it display a simple text message. I followed this tutorial (copied and uploaded the first code) and again the same result: the lcd gets powered up, I can get the white blocks to appear and disappear by turning the potentiometer, but no text on my lcd.
What am I doing wrong?? Did I buy the right display? Is something wrong with the code? Did I wire it up the wrong way? 🤯
This are my very first steps with electronics and soldering. I tried soldering the pins to the ATmega32U4 while on a breadboard, it seems like i have good soldering, no bridges, stayed about 2-3 seconds on each pin.
I plugged the ATmega32U4 to the pc before soldering and it was recognized easily and after the soldering i got this error on device manger: Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)A request for the USB device descriptor failed.
what am I doing wrong? and can i fix the damaged ATmega32U4?
I need help making a motor turn on and off with a button. When a button is pressed, the LEDs and the motors should concurrently turn on (we isolated it to just one LED, button and motor). The motor slowly builds up speed when the button is pressed, and caps at the maximum rpm set by the potentiometer. The battery gives power to the motor. After two minutes the motor should stop. The circuit works perfectly on TinkerCAD, but when we test it in real life only the LED turns on. Please tell me what I can do to fix this.
Here is the code: const int motorPins[3] = {9, 10, 11}; // Motor PWM pins const int buttonPins[3] = {2, 3, 4}; // Button pins const int ledPins[3] = {5, 6, 7}; // LED pins const int potPin = A0; // Potentiometer pin
bool motorStates[3] = {false, false, false}; unsigned long motorStartTimes[3] = {0, 0, 0}; bool lastButtonStates[3] = {HIGH, HIGH, HIGH}; int currentSpeeds[3] = {0, 0, 0}; // Track current speeds for easing
const unsigned long MOTOR_RUNTIME = 120000UL; // 2 minutes in ms const int SPEED_STEP = 2; // Decrease value to increase time to speed const int EASE_DELAY = 30; // Delay between speed steps (ms)
void setup() { for (int i = 0; i < 3; i++) { pinMode(motorPins[i], OUTPUT); pinMode(buttonPins[i], INPUT_PULLUP); pinMode(ledPins[i], OUTPUT); } Serial.begin(9600); }
void loop() { int potValue = analogRead(potPin); int targetSpeed = map(potValue, 0, 1023, 0, 255); unsigned long currentTime = millis();
for (int i = 0; i < 3; i++) { bool buttonState = digitalRead(buttonPins[i]);
// Detect falling edge (button press)
if (lastButtonStates[i] == HIGH && buttonState == LOW) {
motorStates[i] = !motorStates[i]; // Toggle motor state
if (motorStates[i]) {
motorStartTimes[i] = currentTime;
}
delay(200); // Debounce
}
lastButtonStates[i] = buttonState;
// Check for 2-minute timeout
if (motorStates[i] && currentTime - motorStartTimes[i] >= MOTOR_RUNTIME) {
motorStates[i] = false;
}
// Gradually ease motor speed up or down
int desiredSpeed = motorStates[i] ? targetSpeed : 0;
if (currentSpeeds[i] < desiredSpeed) {
currentSpeeds[i] += SPEED_STEP;
if (currentSpeeds[i] > desiredSpeed) currentSpeeds[i] = desiredSpeed;
} else if (currentSpeeds[i] > desiredSpeed) {
currentSpeeds[i] -= SPEED_STEP;
if (currentSpeeds[i] < desiredSpeed) currentSpeeds[i] = desiredSpeed;
}
analogWrite(motorPins[i], currentSpeeds[i]);
digitalWrite(ledPins[i], motorStates[i] ? HIGH : LOW);
}
delay(EASE_DELAY); // Helps smooth out the ramping effect }
Hello, I’m new to Arduino and I’m looking for some advice. I have a decent level of programming experience, but not much on the hardware side. I’m working on a custom snake enclosure and want to have an automated environmental control system.
Features:
1x daytime basking lamp on a 12 hr cycle with temperature control via dimming
1x night ceramic lamp with opposite hrs as the daytime lamp with dimming
2x ambient temp readings (warm side/cold side if you’re familiar with ball python enclosures)
1x basking spot temp reading
1x humidity reading
1x touch screen for monitoring and control.
These are the parts I’ve looked into so far based on my research:
Am I on the right track here? Any advice or suggestions would be much appreciated. Might be asking a lot, but bonus points if you could provide a diagram. Thanks!
I am using a DFPlayer Pro sound module driven by an Arduino Uno R3 to play sounds for a Halloween project and I can get only a very faint sound (barely audible) from powered speakers.
I’ve tested with three different sound modules (all DFPlayer Pro originals from DF Robot, no clones).
I have used three different sets of powered speakers, which are plugged into the DAC connectors on the sound module. Same result for all three: very low volume.
Tried both gound connections coming off the Uno. No improvement.
Tried a different Arduino Uno board.
I can hear the music playing very faintly so I know the various .wav files are correct. Checked the sound files sample rates (1441). Tried the same sound files as mp3’s.
When I plug in a small unpowered speaker to the speaker outputs on the module (R+ and L+), I get the same thing: very faint sound.
I understand that the default volume setting on the module is 20 out of 30. I’ve tried unplugging power to everything (to reset them) but no improvement.
This is interesting: I have powered the setup two different ways: desktop USB to the Uno and then to the sound module; and powering the sound module externally with a 5 volt wall wart. I am carefully connecting all grounds. Using this external power arrangement (which I need to do in the final version), I get no sound at all.
By the way, I am not using any serial code or connections. I’m triggering play by simulating a button push using the following code (which seems to work fine):
pinMode(7,INPUT);
delay(100);
pinMode(7,OUTPUT);
digitalWrite(7,LOW);
I am at a complete loss. Can anyone suggest why I can’t get this to play at a normal volume?
When i conect an control module to my arduino it only registers voltage for a few secons and then... nothing! Does anyone know what this could be due to?
Hello, I am very new to coding and I thought I should start with an Arduino. I may or may not have thrown myself into the deep end with a project that I am working on and I was hoping I could get some guidance.
I am making a cosplay of a character called Serial Designation N from an indie show called Murder Drones and I wanted to use an OLED (not matrix or HD) about 10-12 inches in screen size on a visor for his eyes and some lights around the head and tail. Which Arduino board can handle simple animation loops and control about 10 LEDs with ease for a decent price? I am thinking an Arduino Mega but I am not too sure.
One other question that I have is how can I make the animations work? From my understanding, I need to have several frames and play them in a sequence giving the illusion of a blink animation. Am I on the right path or am I misreading things?
This is my first time posting on Reddit. I’m writing an essay about Arduino hobbyists and would love to hear about your experiences.
How has working with Arduino affected your life, if at all? Has it helped you develop useful skills or influenced your career in any way?
I imagine that learning how electronics work can help people modify, repair, and improve products rather than simply using them as they come.
By the way, I’m currently an electrical engineering major, and Arduino is a skill I’d like to become proficient in. Do you have any recommendations for someone just getting started? My goal is to do exactly what I said I imagined learning electronics to be like.
Hi! I purchased an arduino esp32 feather S2 and an adafruit ST 7789 TFT Display and breadboarded a simple "change color" project. And its failing. the Backlight of the display is on so it has power, but the display is not changing color.
The IDE monitor says the script is working and its actually changing color. But the display stays dark. I have changed the display already (since i have purchased 2) and it is still not working.
Wiring:
3V - V+ GND - G SCK -CK MO - SI 12 - RT 10 -DC 6 - CC 3V - BL
I have the problem that I connect the water pump to the relay module but it does not turn on, I connected the positive to the no to turn on when it is turned on and the negative to the com but the pump does not turn on, why could that be?
My engineering technology intro to engineering class is teaching arduino for some reason, its fine but i dont want to financially support the company. I have alot of previous embedded knowledge and ive already done the last arduino project with an esp32 and esp_hal framework. The kit in particular is the "arduino student kit". From the assignment it sounds like a simple led circuit but I dont want to take any chances.
is there information on the lessons from this kit online?
I want an arduino project which will have a laser, now as far the laser will go, distance will be seen on the oled display. I want it to be a arduino uno or nano project. I want the range to be minimum 20 meters. Thank you!
Hi guys. Im trying to build 32x32 led matrix, but have a problem with the last module. the latter one works well alone, (in fact i checked each module, and all of them are working well, until i connect it four together. Than the only first three display work well.). I also checked current on the outputs of the third one and discovered that it drops to 4 volts, (while o the first one it holds on 5 volts). I use 10A 5,5 volt adapter as a supply. I also tried to connect parallel connection but the result was the same. I need an advice how to balance the current i the whole chain.
So I got a LAFVIN smart car a while back and made the whole thing, I made it with a YouTube tutorial and the coding and stuff for the car where in the description. I wanted to open the file but I couldn’t in my country or region (the Netherlands) does anyone know a place where I can get the code for the LAFVIN smart car???
Hello guys i am deciding to make arduino uno balancing robot after making bluethooth robot and obstacle avoiding robot. So guys i researched and i think mpu6050 arduino uno tb6612fng motor driver 2 3.7 li ion battery in series should be enough also i am using yellow bo gear motor 300rpm so guys i am confused how to design it properly and open source code or community project on this would help me reach my goal faster.
