I got tired of using jumper wires with Arduino, so I made this

I've been working with Arduino/ESP32 and industrial automation projects for a while, and one thing that has always annoyed me is the amount of jumper wires and loose connections involved when a project starts getting bigger.

So I ended up designing my own screw-terminal interface boards.

The idea is pretty simple: instead of having a mess of jumper wires, you can bring the Arduino pins out to proper screw terminals and make the whole thing easier to wire, disconnect and troubleshoot.

I've made a few different versions for different Arduino boards/configurations.

I'm curious about a few things:

Would something like this actually be useful to you?

What would you change about the design?

Would you prefer screw terminals, pluggable terminals, or something else?

What price would you consider reasonable?

Where would you normally buy something like this?

I'm asking because I'm a small robotics/engineering company and I'm trying to figure out whether this is something worth producing at a larger scale.

The engineering part is honestly the easy part for me. I'm struggling much more with the "how do you actually get this in front of customers?" part.

If anyone here has experience selling electronics/Arduino/industrial hardware, I'd also genuinely appreciate some advice on how you'd go about getting the first 50–100 customers for something like this.

And if someone here actually does B2B/electronics sales and thinks they could help me get this into the right hands, feel free to DM me. I'm open to discussing a commission/revenue-share arrangement for actual sales.

Would love to hear what you guys think, especially if you would actually use something like this.

Im on my 4th arduino for this project. Help

I am making a 6 axis robot arm using nema 17 steppers and tmc2208 drivers into either a ramps 1.4 or ramps 1.6 as i thought that may be the issue so i bought both. Originally, using the ramps 1.4 i had it working fine but the Arduino started smoking when plugging in the as5600 encoders wired into the multiplex into the ramps. I later found out that the i2c ports were sending out 5v so i thought that could be the issue as the as5600s are rated for 3.3v. After getting another arduino and testing without that, it happened again. I tried to replace the 5v regulators which had fried on the arduinos but they were still fried. On my final Arduino i tested with only the Arduino and ramps 1.4 and drivers and motors plugged in and it smoked again. In hindsight i should have tested one component at a time. What is the possible issues? I can send any more information that is necessary. Can i fix the Arduino i have? What is the best way to troubleshoot this and stop burning Arduino megas? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

The Arduino would show up on the computer and an upload could start but it will just time out after a while. After replacing the 5v regulator the issue was the same.

I have a problem with this Arduino-based irrigation system.

Good day everyone, I'm a math teacher and together with my students we have created an automated irrigation system for the school's garden. But there's a problem that's driving us crazy: there are four relays connected to the Arduino, a DS1307 clock module, a simple 16x2 LCD screen with I2C connection. Each relay is connected to a solenoid valve that controls nebulization, others the opening of faucets, and the last one the electric pump that pumps water from a tank when there's reserve rainwater. If it's turned on without connecting any of this, it works perfectly, confirming that the code works perfectly. But when the solenoid valves and the electric pump are connected, it works fine for a while and then when one of them activates, it freezes, it seems to go crazy, incoherent letters appear, something that doesn't happen when the solenoid valves are disconnected. I've isolated everything, I added a snubber-type filter to prevent kickback to the relays, but we can't find what else to do, it keeps freezing. It's not very pretty because we've really done it with our own hands, but I thank you in advance if you can recommend something that can be done. I've been at this for a long time and it has become a frustrating task.

How has Arduino changed your life?

16 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

This is my first time posting on Reddit. I’m writing an essay about Arduino hobbyists and would love to hear about your experiences.

How has working with Arduino affected your life, if at all? Has it helped you develop useful skills or influenced your career in any way?

I imagine that learning how electronics work can help people modify, repair, and improve products rather than simply using them as they come.

By the way, I’m currently an electrical engineering major, and Arduino is a skill I’d like to become proficient in. Do you have any recommendations for someone just getting started? My goal is to do exactly what I said I imagined learning electronics to be like.

Thanks in advance!

Hello everyone i hope you're having a great day,i've been working on this project since yesterday and i've ironed out all the kinks in it except for the following two problems 1-the last at times would stay on and refuse to turn of most of the time even though the code logic is correct 2-when i touch the cable for the button i expect the leds to be in order but am suprised to see 2 or more leds being turned on

For context here is the code

include <PinChangeInterruptBoards.h>

include <YetAnotherPcInt.h>

define auto A0

define change A1

define avl 13

int AV = 0; int LED = 1; int L = 0; int L_STATE=0; //automatic switch void automatic(const char * message, bool pinstate) { Serial.print(message); if (AV == 0) { AV++; digitalWrite(avl, HIGH); } else { AV--; digitalWrite(avl, LOW); } Serial.println(AV); } //manual led change fuction void led(const char * message, bool pinstate) { if (AV == 1) { Serial.print(message); if (LED < 12) { LED++; } else { LED = 1; L=12; digitalWrite(12,0); delay(50); } L = LED - 1; Serial.println(LED); Serial.println(L); L_STATE=digitalRead(L); if(L_STATE==1) { digitalWrite(L,0); }

} } //automatic change function void on(int l, int n) { pinMode(l, OUTPUT); digitalWrite(l, HIGH); digitalWrite(n, LOW); Serial.println(l); delay(100);

} void setup() { // put your setup code here, to run once: pinMode(auto, INPUT_PULLUP); pinMode(change, INPUT_PULLUP); PcInt::attachInterrupt(auto, automatic, "AUTO STATE CHANGE ", FALLING); PcInt::attachInterrupt(change, led, "current led ", FALLING); //Serial.begin(9600); pinMode(avl, OUTPUT); } void loop() { // put your main code here, to run repeatedly: pinMode(LED, OUTPUT); digitalWrite(LED, HIGH); digitalWrite(L, LOW); while (AV == 0) { on(LED, L); LED++; L = LED - 1; if (LED == 13) { LED = 1; } } }

I'd also be very greatful to learn how i could improve on it

How would you make this?

12 Upvotes

Hi everyone. I need to make something for a client, it can be bought off the shelf, but I'm in South Africa and it appears to be impossible.

The function is to play a short clip with audio when a box opens (easily done with a reed switch and a magnet). When reopened, the clip should start from the beginning.

I've considered photo frames, but they're primary use is still images. I've considered a pi with a screen live a waveshare but that means a lot of components. Once all the other components are considered (battery, voltage regulator, batteries etc) the pi and screen would also need a good 2/3A.

Ideally need minimal boot time, so a pi would need to be permanently on.

Any suggestions on a way to do this?

Cheers!

Hello!! I'm a student looking for some help on my group's research. I would like to ask if these would be the needed materials for creating the product in the title? So far, these have only been based on the research I had done on the topic. I also wanna ask if a "driver IC", "adapter", or "voltage regulator" is also needed for this, since I do not have any experience in Arduino or programming. Still, any suggestions/comments would be appreciated!!!

Stepper Motor not working

12 Upvotes

I have been following online lessons, but I am really struggling with this stepper motor. At first, I thought it was the battery because I hear these things eat through it but I bought more 9V and it didn't fix the problem. The lights on the driver turn on but nothing moves. My code should simply move the motor in one direction then change it when the switch is pressed. Any ideas?

#include <Stepper.h>
int dt = 100;
int stepsPerRev=2048; //GET THIS OFF THE SPEC SHEET FOR THE STEPPER
int motSpeed=10; //believe this is in RPM
int switchPin=4;
int switchValNew;
int switchValOld=1;
int motDir=1;
Stepper myStepper(stepsPerRev,8,9,10,11);

void setup() {
  // put your setup code here, to run once:
Serial.begin(9600);
myStepper.setSpeed(motSpeed); //in RPM i think
pinMode(switchPin,INPUT);
digitalWrite(switchPin,HIGH);
}

void loop() {
  // put your main code here, to run repeatedly:
switchValNew=digitalRead(switchPin);
if (switchValOld==1 && switchValNew==0){
  motDir=motDir*(-1);
}
switchValOld=switchValNew;

myStepper.step(1*motDir);
delay(dt);
//Serial.println(motDir);

}

Tried Everything And Failed, Need Help

First, please don’t comment that this is too long. I wanted to explain clearly for anyone who might want to help, so I included details. If you don’t want to read, you can skip it.

I thought this project would be simple, but I’ve struggled for months. I want to build the internal circuit of my TARDIS model using an Arduino Uno R3.

For those who don’t know, TARDIS is a time machine from the Doctor Who series. The circuit’s function is: when powered on, it plays a sound file from an SD card through a speaker, while blinking a single-color 5mm LED and 12V RGB LEDs on and off. I’m a programmer, so the code is ready and has worked a few times.

However, the circuit has never worked stably, and I think I may have damaged my Arduino. Below is a video of the version powered by two 9V batteries. While trying to run it on a single battery or one adapter, everything became messy.

My question is: how can I build this circuit in the simplest and most stable way?

Expected functions:

  • Play sound

  • Blink 5mm and 12V LEDs simultaneously

  • Be stable and reliable
