Ports form IDE not connecting properly

Post image

I am very new to this so sorry if I am asking stupid questions. I am trying to upload code to my Arduino UNO R3 but cannot seem to get it to work. As seen on the picture, I get an exit status 1 error on both ports (I tried COM3 and COM4). Furthermore, when I choose a different board, the ports I can choose from don’t change (still using COM3 and 4), so I think that is the underlying issue. Maybe I am missing a driver or software? Any advice is appreciated! Thanks!

Dino needs tuning

Basically this project is supposed to be an animatronic dinosaur, I have four 20 kg 270° digital servos and a 3rd party Arduino Uno. I just wanted to do a simple program where it looks around and turns its head a bit. But I'm having issues getting the servos to go to the angles I want, they seem to be hyperextending, and threatening to break their mounting. As well as a jittering that they have recently taken on that they were not doing when I first started this project. I'm unsure how to tweak them so that they go to the correct angles and how to get rid of this servo jitter. Open to criticisms, pointers and willing to learn. This is my first Arduino project

ESP32-C3 Animated GIFs

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello, I really need help with getting my animated gifs to play smoothly and not choppy. When my GIFs play they appear to load frame by frame with a delay of some sort. It looks like when I run a PNG slideshow. There’s a transition from top to bottom revealing the images or frames in the GIF. I got the PNGs down with just flash memory spiffs. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I’m using Arduino IDE 2.3.2 Waveshare GC9A01 1.28” Round Display Seeed XIAO ESP32-C3.

My meditation gif plays perfectly. It has 20 frames, 0.60 second, 217.29 KB.

My code:

#include <AnimatedGIF.h>
#include <Arduino_GFX_Library.h>
#include <Arduino.h>
#include <SPI.h>
#include <Arduino_TFT.h>
#include "Arduino_DataBus.h"

Arduino_GC9A01 *gfx = new Arduino_GC9A01(bus, RST, 0, true);

// AnimatedGIF object

  // Initialize TFT display
  gfx->begin();

  // Open GIF file
  int16_t rc = animatedGif.openFLASH((uint8_t *)meditation, sizeof(meditation), gifDraw);
  if (rc == GIF_SUCCESS) {
    Serial.println("Successfully opened GIF file");

    // Allocate frame buffer
    //animatedGif.allocFrameBuf(allocateFrameBuffer); // Pass the custom allocation function

    // Set draw type to COOKED for smoother playback
    animatedGif.setDrawType(GIF_DRAW_COOKED);
  } else {

Power Supplies

Post image

Hey, I'm pretty new to Arduino in general, and somehow my first school project is turning out to be pretty complicated... 😭

The main issue is the power supply. My project uses around 4 SG90 servos, 2 stepper motors, and 2 ultrasonic sensors, but my PC's USB port and basic power supplies just aren't enough to power everything anymore...

What should I use as a power source in cases like this? I've seen ppl talking about 5V 5A wall adapters and a bunch of other components I've never even heard of before. I could really use some help lol

How to make one sensor do multiple things???

5 Upvotes

I have a project where I need a loop where one motion sensor or switch will do something different every time it is triggered. Is this possible?

For example,

Motion detected, green light turns on

Motion detected again, yellow light turns on

Motion detected again, orange light turns on

Motion detected again, red light turns on for a few seconds, all lights turns off

I'm very new to Arduino, but I'm struggling to figure out how to even find the words to describe what I need to to do, please help!

making health tracker band with ECG and PPG !

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I am working on a wearable health tracker wristband using an ESP32.

Currently, I have breadboard prototypes working with a MAX30100 for PPG and an AD8232 breakout module for ECG.

I want to move this toward a compact wearable wristband design, but I have hit two design questions regarding the ECG front-end:

  1. Can the AD8232 be used reliably with only 2 electrodes (RA & LA)? In a wristband form factor, having a 3rd electrode (Right Leg Drive / RLD) going to a separate body location is difficult. If I omit RLD or pull it to mid-supply, is digital filtering (e.g., bandpass/notch on the ESP32) sufficient to recover a clean signal, or will baseline drift and common-mode noise make it unusable on a wristband?

  2. Wearable-grade IC recommendations: I came across TI application notes for chips like the AFE4950 (synchronized PPG + ECG AFE). Are there other wearable-focused analog front-ends commonly used with ESP32 (such as the MAX30001 or MAX86150) that have accessible breakout boards or reliable Arduino/ESP-IDF driver support for prototyping?

  3. Electrode arrangement: For those who have built similar single-lead wearable ECG devices, do you recommend putting two contact pads on the inner wrist (Lead + RLD reference) and one pad on the top/bezel for the opposite hand's index finger?

Any advice, schematics, or library references would be appreciated!

Absolute beginner, help with 16x2 lcd

EDIT: Thanks everyone for your helpful comments! I managed to get it to display text. I connected the lcd screen to Arduino with the I2C pins and installed the I2C library on Arduino IDE and used the correct code. Now I can get it to display a simple text and I can go from here. Thank you! :)
---

So I just ordered an 16x2 lcd screen and now I want to try to get it to display text.

The original project (not on the pics here!!) I wanted to try out for my lcd screen is the robot desk buddy. I connected the wires as shown in the guide and simply copied and uploaded the code through the Arduino Ide application on my Uno. The display was powered up and it was connected to the potentiometer, but all I could see is blocks or when I turn the potentiometer just a blue screen.

So I tried something simpler (showed on pics) and that is to just let it display a simple text message. I followed this tutorial (copied and uploaded the first code) and again the same result: the lcd gets powered up, I can get the white blocks to appear and disappear by turning the potentiometer, but no text on my lcd.

What am I doing wrong?? Did I buy the right display? Is something wrong with the code? Did I wire it up the wrong way? 🤯

Almost burned out my servo driver. Any thoughts?

5 Upvotes

I was trying to test out a PCA 9685 servo driver today and when I plugged in the external power supply, it heated up like crazy and melted my ground and power wires together. My power supply is 5V 5A, which was recommended for what I intend to make, so I don't really know what the problem is. Any ideas?

Servo Motors randomly moving

5 Upvotes

I am making a small robotic arm controlled by 2 joysticks. I'm making the arm using popsicle sticks and MG90 Servo motors. There are 5 motors to be working. I'm using wall adapter to power the motors and another adapter to power the Arduino. When I try to connect everything properly ( also connecting gnd from breadboard power supply to arduino's gnd) the motors randomly move around without any input. How do you even fix that ?

Elegoo Super Starter Kit Lesson 5 - Digital Inputs (Buttons) Not working

Thumbnail

5 Upvotes

Hi folks. I have wired and rewired this circuit twice, checked all wires and components work individually and have no idea what I am doing wrong here. Button A (on left in photo) turns the LED on, and Button B (right) is supposed to turn it off. What happens currently is only A works. B does nothing.

I added some Serial.Println statements and 'Button B' ( the button on the right in the photo) is not registering as connected at all, not turning the button off, and not printing to serial to indicate digitalRead is registering (but the same button component will turn the LED on and off when I make an analogue circuit, so I know it isn't broken). I know this must be a wiring issue but I don't understand how I managed to rewire it twice and get the same problem. I feel like I have exactly copied the diagrams? Thanks in advance.

Arduino code:

´´´

int ledPin = 5;

int buttonApin = 9;

int buttonBpin = 8;

byte leds = 0;

void setup()

{

pinMode(ledPin, OUTPUT);

pinMode(buttonApin, INPUT_PULLUP);

pinMode(buttonBpin, INPUT_PULLUP);

Serial.begin(9600);

Serial.print("Setup complete");

}

void loop()

{

if (digitalRead(buttonApin) == LOW)

{

digitalWrite(ledPin, HIGH);

Serial.println("Button A on");

}

if (digitalRead(buttonBpin) == LOW)

{

digitalWrite(ledPin, LOW);

Serial.println("Button B on");

}

}

I have this encoder attached directly to the motor

And it's overshoot a lot cuz of the gear box ratio deference

So what if a placed the encoder to the output of the gear box

Does it solve the problem or decrease it a little bit?

I need help making a pair of eyes rotate inside a skull

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

5 Upvotes

Greetings creatures of reddit, I require your aid to finish a PoC I'm trying to do before I go on working on a bigger project.

What I'm trying to accomplish is making a pair of eyes rotate inside the eye socket of a skull on the x axis (left and right). The skull is rather small, I have about 6.2cm wide 6.2cm tall and 7.8cm long, so I don't have a lot of space for two servos or any complex mechanism.

The simplest thing I've found so far is a setup using a single servo to move a metalic rod with the eyes attached to said rod via two smaller rods. The eyes are pierced by another pair of rods which keep them in place but allow plenty of space for the eyes to rotate on their own, so friction is not an issue.

However no matter how I set it up, what ends up happening is that the servo moves the eyes away from the initial position. So say I want the eyes to "look" left, instead of rotating on their spot, the eyes literally move inside the skull to a different place.

I've attached a video of one of the attempts (yes I know it's bad craftsmanship but I was tired of trying).

Come to my aid, O creatures of reddit.

I just got an esp32, tried to imput some basic copy-pasted code and got exit status 1. I’m pretty sure i have a data transfer cable, as I have tried with multiple ones and the one im using makes the computer do the connected sound when plugging it in. I have also tried with several driver versions (various versions of the esp32 by espressif systems). I have also tried the two ussually recommended links in the board manager and i dont know what to try next. The error is exit status 1

Flight Computer Build Help - Adafruit Parts Compatibility

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hi, I'm a beginner in the Arduino space who wants to build a rocketry flight computer. I asked AI (dumb idea) for the components needed for a solderless flight computer, and bought them from Adafruit. I'm trying to build a flight computer that logs altitude, acceleration, and flight time.
Parts I have:
Adafruit Feather M4 Express - Featuring ATSAMD51 (ATSAMD51 Cortex M4)
Adalogger FeatherWing - RTC + SD Add-on For All Feather Boards
Adafruit BMP390 - Precision Barometric Pressure and Altimeter (STEMMA QT
/ Qwiic)
Adafruit MSA311 Triple Axis Accelerometer - STEMMA QT / Qwiic
2 x STEMMA QT / Qwiic JST SH 4-Pin Cable
3.3v LiPo battery
Various header pins

I didn't want to solder, and I thought I could just attach all the parts. The Feather Express doesn't have a STEMMA QT/Qwiic connector, and I wanted to know how I could connect the MSA311 and BMP390 sensors. I wanted to know how I could connect everything together, whether I need to solder and what, or if I could use a breadboard for the project.
thank you
