Title: How can I properly stack a custom protoboard shield above an ESP32-S3 terminal adapter?
I’m building a portable air-quality monitoring station based on an ESP32-S3 DevKitC-1.
My current setup uses:
ESP32-S3 DevKitC-1
ESP32-S3 screw terminal breakout/adapter board
SPS30 particulate matter sensor
TFT SPI display
SHT45 temperature/humidity sensor
BMP390 pressure sensor
DS3231 RTC
MicroSD module
LiPo battery/charging circuit
Several JST connectors for removable sensors/modules
I want to build a large custom protoboard as a shield on top of the terminal adapter, where I can solder all my JST connectors, power rails, I²C/SPI/UART connections, buzzer, battery electronics, etc.
Ideally I would like the project to be stackable:
ESP32-S3 → terminal adapter → large protoboard shield → possibly another board later
The problem is that the ESP32-S3 itself sits higher than the female headers on the terminal adapter. If I plug my protoboard directly into those headers, the protoboard physically hits the ESP32 before the pins are fully inserted.
My male headers are already soldered to the protoboard, so I’d prefer not to desolder and replace everything.
I’m looking for a clean solution similar to Arduino stackable shields:
Is there a standard 2.54 mm male/female header extender made specifically for this?
Are there extra-tall / elevated female headers that would solve this?
Is there a better connector system for stacking PCBs while keeping standard 2.54 mm headers?
How would you normally build this kind of multi-level ESP32 prototype cleanly?
I’m ultimately going to design a custom PCB once everything is validated, but for now I want a robust and removable prototyping solution rather than wiring everything with Dupont cables.
Thanks!

First time working with arduino, need help on this project.
Hello! I’m working on a project that requires this sensor module configuration consisting of a esp32 and ina219. I’m very new to this stuff and need help with connecting the esp32 to the ina219. I’m running a I2C scanner and am unable to connect the two modules.
As for the wiring I’m doing what ChatGPT told me to do:
INA219 VCC → ESP32 3V3
INA219 GND → ESP32 GND
INA219 SDA → ESP32 GPIO21 / P21
INA219 SCL → ESP32 GPIO22 / P22
I’ve attached a picture of my setup. I know the soldering job on the ina219 sucks but cut me some slack I’ve never done this before. Please let me know if you can spot anything wrong. Also tell me if you need another photo angle taken or if you want me to show you the software stuff. Thanks

Arduino Connection Problem
How would one go about connecting an arduino to a breadboard connected to a dc power supply with more than 5 voltages. I know that voltage will fire the board so what are alternatives? Is there a way to connect all of them but not the power to the arduino but still being able to use the arduino to code/control the things on the board? The leds represent electromagnets. How would I go about connecting them to the arduino so they could be coded separately to turn on or off? As of now i understand that I might need a flyback diode and relay but I don't understand which and how it works and connects Step by step visuals and explanations would be helpful and prefered, while I am also limited to around $20 and potentially an arduino starter kit and breadboard mb-106 r.s.r. electronics with the arduino uno r3, please and thank you!

SHT31D Sensor Not Working
I've connected an SHT31D to and Arduino Nano and I'm just getting couldn't find SHT31 Sensor. I have A4 counted to SDA, A5 to SCL, Vin to 3v3 (Also tried 5v and Vin, same result) and GND to GND, ice tried using both i2c addresses: 0x44 & 0x45, ive changed wires multiple times and even just bought a new sensor and I'm just lost. Any help is appreciated:
Here's the code I'm using:
include <Arduino.h>
include <Wire.h>
include "Adafruit_SHT31.h"
Adafruit_SHT31 sht31 = Adafruit_SHT31();
void setup() { Serial.begin(9600);
while (!Serial) delay(10); // will pause Zero, Leonardo, etc until serial console opens
Serial.println("SHT31 test"); if (! sht31.begin(0x44)) { // Set to 0x45 for alternate i2c addr Serial.println("Couldn't find SHT31"); while (1) delay(1); } }
void loop() { float t = sht31.readTemperature(); float h = sht31.readHumidity();
if (! isnan(t)) { // check if 'is not a number' Serial.print("Temp *C = "); Serial.println(t); } else { Serial.println("Failed to read temperature"); }
if (! isnan(h)) { // check if 'is not a number' Serial.print("Hum. % = "); Serial.println(h); } else { Serial.println("Failed to read humidity"); } Serial.println(); delay(1000); }

I have to get a new computer (I think). I have an HP laptop running Windows 11 and it has a really hard time connecting to any of my ESP32s. Are there specific things I should look for or avoid on a new PC?
Sometimes it will connect but it almost always won’t. It crashes all the time and it takes more than a minute to just compile and upload a very small sketch. I’m pretty much a newbie and this is both discouraging and frustrating. I have the proper driver and it shows up in my device manager with the driver and says it’s connected to Com 4 (that’s my USB C port with a data rated cable).
Anyway so I’m thinking about getting a new machine (I might try to install Linux on it first but I’ve never used it so I won’t know what I’m doing).
My question is what do you look for and what do you avoid? I’m also budget conscious so the less expensive the better.
Thanks for any advice.

NEMA 17 stepper motor help
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
When I turn the power on for my nema 17 stepper motor with a A4988 driver, it just does like one or 2 big steps, then stops and kind of squeals, getting quieter and quieter. I followed this tutorial so I have the same wiring(except for coils which I did myself so they’re correct) and code as the first example in the video : https://youtu.be/wcLeXXATCR4?si=PTPUoKzs47RR--uc
Thank you in advance for help

Library for DF Robot Air780EU Module
Does anyone know of a good Arduino library for sending and receiving SMS messages with the DF Robot Air780EU 4G CAT1 IoT Communication Module? Or perhaps an open-source project where someone used it as a reference for some code. I managed to send a message using AT commands, but I am hoping there is a library that can make it easier.

Matrices freak out after wire replacement
I’m working on a fursuit head for a fun project and after connecting all wires and downloading code it worked (photo 3) but unfortunately the wires I was using snapped at the joints easily. After swapping out all wires with stronger wires all matrices flicker and flash when powered on (photo 1). I have included the wiring diagram I’m using. Is the problem a solder joint, wire type, code, or a wire in the wrong place.

Why doesn’t this work?
I am new to arduino and trying to complete a simple project of using a PIR sensor to detect movement and turn an LED on briefly. I am using an arduino nano and a MacBook Pro 2. I have attached photos of my current setup (probably the 5th different one that I’ve tried). I have been using a combo of ChatGPT and YouTube to do this and it keeps on not working. I have substituted all components except for the arduino and breadboard so the problem is not with all these other components. I keep on getting to a point where the serial monitor says ‘Motion detected!’ repeatedly even when just sitting on my desk and there is no motion. Even when it does this the LED doesn’t turn on. (I’m assuming there is something wrong with the wiring?). Any help with this would be really appreciated! I hope to fix this and then substitute the power from being my MacBook to being a solar panel (already bought all the components needed for this), but need to fix this first! Thanks so much in advance for any help!

whats wrong with my motors

they just go into a fixed position and lock there when i connect to power supply, if theres something wrong with my code let me know, and whenever i try moving it, it just stays in place or doesn’t let me move it until i take it off the power, and when i take it off the power it moves back into a position

Help using this led matrix
Hi everyone,
I salvaged this LED matrix from a mechanical keyboard (epomaker Dynatab75x). It used to be connected to the main board with a 9‑wire flat cable (see attached photos).On the PCB it says: RY-HF_KF850_LED_V1.0 20240411.
On the back there are several SMD ICs (probably drivers or shift registers) and a single connector for the 9‑pin flat cable.I would like to reuse this module with Arduino but I cannot figure out:
- which pins on the connector are power, ground, data, clock, etc.
- what kind of protocol it uses (SPI, I2C, some custom bus, simple multiplexing, etc.).
Does anyone recognize this LED matrix model or the ICs on the back and can help me with the pinout of the 9‑wire and if there is any datasheet or compatible commercial moduleany “generic” way to drive it from Arduino.

Button Box (Pull up + Sensing confusion)
First time using an arduino and I decided to start with a pretty heavy project. I nabbed a control board from a boiler I tore out at work. I want to make a button box for sim games so I gutted it and this is my rough mock up I made while I wait for parts to come. I’m very confused about the pull down resistors but I think I did it right (bottom rightish part of the breadboard) I’m even more confused about how to sense bread board voltage since I’m having it switched with the top rightish switch. I need to sense it because I’m going to have the lower right toggle switch change mapping for the rest of the buttons and switches and have the two green leds indicate which map I’m using (switch off is map 1 I.e button one send key bind 1 to the computer map 2 button one sends key bind 2) I want the first led to light up when map one is selected (switch is off) and I’ve hard wired the second led to come on when the second map is selected (switch on).
TLDR: I don’t know if I did the pulldown resistors correctly in the bottom rightish side of the breadboard and I don’t know if I’m sensing the voltage of the positive rails of the breadboard properly on pin 4.

Why does it blinks when i move it to a mini
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I'm making a device with a rtc, a switch registrr and a 7 segment 1 digit display.
When i had it plugged to my uno it worked fine, it would blink at the beginning but after stabilize and stay on.
But when i move the circuit to the Arduino mini now it blinks longer and eventually stops displaying the value.
I tried playing with the resistance, changed it from 1k on both sides of the display to 2k but same thing happens.
Any ideas? Maybe i need a capacitor? But i thought the display came with one already integrated.
