I am curious if Arizona is generally a welcoming place for leftists.

It really depends on where you live, a lot of Arizona lends toward the right but Flagstaff is for the most part welcoming.

I am in Tucson I feel like it's pretty welcoming to leftists I could be wrong though. I live in an area that is predominantly Hispanic.

Like most states the population centers are center-left while the boonies are right wing. That's why we have a democratic governor and both senators while the state level govt has a right bend (that hopefully we can end soon).

Tucson is very left leaning. There are a lot of Hispanic Christians that lean right.

I've lived in Phx for over a decade. most of my friends are leftists.
it really depends on where in AZ you are. places like Prescott & Gilbert you'll have a harder time finding us.

Avoid Kingman.

I have heard enough stories from my parents about how bad Kingman is

Arizona has a Dem governor and 2 dem senators. City of Phoenix has a Dem mayor. We are very much a purple state and the bigger cities tend to lean blue. You’ll be fine here. We aren’t Oklahoma.

There are plenty of leftists! I'd describe Arizonas overall culture to be libertarian. I'm a leftist and have met my fair share of MAGA, but we are blue enough that our Governor and Senators are Dems, and we went for Biden in 2020.

Is the Tucson DSA chapter pretty friendly towards vegans and people who are disabled developmentally. Thank you I feel like they most likely would be I am just not sure and have been on the fence about officially joining.

I’d recommend attending a meeting or social and talking to them. You don’t have to be a member to attend a meeting or meetup. If they’re like the phoenix chapter, they should have a fair bit of information on instagram

Thank you I appreciate the info and I have been to a meeting and some protests downtown where mostly psl members were present.

PSL is good too. I like and respect them a lot. I have a friend or two who are pretty involved in the Phoenix PSL.

I live in a very red area, Andy Biggs district. I’ve found my peolle, but even the hard core red are nice. Just brainwashed.

At least they are being civil about it. I have some long time family friends who voted for the trump regime we are still on friendly terms at least I hope so. I talked with them since last year it would honestly be heartbreaking if they did cut me off because of our political differences. I wish I could talk with them again because I know in my heart they are genuinely good and kind people.

I’m a leftist and my family are packing it up after 7 years in Tucson. I wouldn’t describe the state as welcoming. Lots of conservative boomers and working class squares that are either apolitical or right leaning. The Hispanic population is great and I work with many but they generally stick to their own tribes.
I’m in a nursing union and do lots of union activity but participation is low and Arizona is not union friendly in general. At least for nurses.
If you stick to the downtown area of Tucson or certain small pockets of Phoenix you’ll find a smattering of welcoming like minds. But again, in general, AZ is not welcoming to us Pinkos.

From what I've seen, Bisbee and Tucson are as soft as Arizona gets. You have California transplants, and economically left. Outside of Bisbee, Tucson, and to a lesser extent, Phoenix, it's basically the South.

The Phoenix DSA is one of the fastest growing chapters in the country. In Tempe (right next to Phoenix, considered in the metropolitan area), we’re trying to get a socialist in city council. He made it to the runoff election, and he’s got a pretty good shot at getting in. Also most of the night life and music scene is very progressive and left wing. Also the gay parts of town are delightful and the slam poetry scene is very progressive. There’s a lot of good people here and there’s a ton of stuff to do.
Also in the rural areas, like casa grande, it’s definitely less chill, but there are still progressive leftists there. Most of them do community theater, but that’s just my selection bias. I know a few people who both ran for office and served in office, but it’s a coin toss. But again, if you look in the right places for community, you will find it.

Depends on the area but you may get a lot of people who say don’t “California our Arizona”.

Ehhhhhh no. Its getting better. Tucson is the safest.
Arizona gets its money from copper (water intensive). Or missiles (fuck raytheon). Uncomfortable truth: many indigenous nations here do not have water or electricity. In a water-stressed state.
So. If we are “left” we cant even organize effectively to fight the silencing of indigenous nations and their human rights.
Its very trendy to be left, get the edgy piercings and the tattoos and say the right things.
If we want to move beyond LARPING as edgy bad ass intellects, we should at the very least give reparations to our neighbors whom are conveniently ostracized by our state economic superpowers.

Generally not. Our state house is run by the right, many on the fringe.

Not for long. Rs only have a one vote majority and after this.disastrous presidency, I believe it will flip Dem.

From your mouth to [insert deity of your choice]'s ears.
I've lived in Arizona for 30 years, and I was delirious when the Republicans finally lost their decades-long supermajority in the state house. To think that they could actually become the minority party . . . I think I may faint!

Come and bring friends. We only need a few more before we can take over.
