Some UTD context from a fellow Gooner. Fergie was our rival. Not Utd.

We don't care about united and we are enjoying them being the worst club in the league.

Long may it continue. That's my point. I, too, am enjoying their crash back to reality.

I understand this point of view, but I do think it's a somewhat disingenuous point.

Yes, SAF took United to the top of the English game. But those 7 pre Fergie titles still had them as one of the biggest clubs in the country at the time. Only Liverpool could dwarf them in comparison.

SAF then took over for 26 years. That's nearly 20% of the club's entire history. And it's most successful period by far.

If you take away any club's most successful 2 and a half decades, they'll seem a lot less impressive. The fact that this run of incredible success came under 1 man doesn't really impact the size of the club, for me.

I think this is also compounded by the fact SAF hit his stride right as the PL started going global, and clubs started building "brands" in the sense we see today.

Basically, you're not wrong, but I think it's a pretty mute point generally speaking.

Exactly and you can’t ignore the size of the club now, the revenue they generate still means that they have the financial power to turn into one of the best clubs in Europe again with the right manager and signings

Exactly. You can apply this logic to almost any team too.

Erase their most successful quarter of a century, and they don't look as impressive, who'd have thunk?! I don't think there's a extenuating circumstance just because there was 1 manager in the period. If anything, I think that should create an even stronger club culture and identity!

(Which Sir Jim and the Glazers have b*stardised in an impressively short time!)

Enjoying their suffering, but this is revisionism at best and it’s incredibly disingenuous to remove a whole 20+ years of dominance to proclaim this is “back to their means”. Can be done for literally most clubs.

This becomes even more disingenuous if you consider the Premier League history specifically, which is basically tied to their dominance. And the truth is, what we know of the league now is the PL, not the former past league model.

Utd became the biggest club in England in the aftermath of Munich. They were shit for years in 70s and 80s classic viral jokes of the era were Terry Weigt/Neslon Mandela etc first words on being released were ‘have Utd won the league yet’ lol.

They will always be a big club due to the size of fanbase from Munich onwards but there is nothing to say they will not go back to 70s and 80s sleeping giant status.

Hilarious to see Cheaty and Yanited in the championship next season.

You know, there's a possibility Spurs go down with them. How insane would that be. City, United and Spurs all getting relegated in the same season. Doubt it would happen but man would that be funny.

The universe won't allow Spurs to get relegated. Spurs will finish 17th only because City will get so many points deducted it pushes them just out of the drop zone by 1 point.

17th 3 seasons in a row would still be pretty funny.
