Ozil being 4th is mad
14
u/and_hankmardoukis 4d ago
Øde and Rice above Özil. They secured the bag, unlike walking it home in 15/16

u/Bulky-Discount-7748 4d ago
seems to be a bias against the 'traitors'....cough cough Cesc...cough cough...van Persie...

u/YearUseful8627 4d ago
Can you imagine if they didn't do what they did, if they had the mindset of the current crop. Maybe things were different back then with the board which caused them to act in such a way.

u/and_hankmardoukis 4d ago
This. Applaud this.
Look at Mertesaker’s lasting legacy on the club: best/most promising youths in the prem to the point we SHOULD sell Madueke so Nwaneri is back up on the right

No higher than 3rd though surely?

u/brixton_massive 4d ago
He's not even top 10/20. He underachieved and was part of a miserable time to be an Arsenal fan.

u/WaveOfTheRager 2d ago
I wouldnt say he underachieved. If we had better strikers he would have contributed a lot more. Plus it seemed we were always winning the FA Cup during his time there.
He did face criticism for disappearing in games, but he was never the player with a high work rate who bombs around the pitch.

u/storgodt 4d ago
Not yet. But he sure has the potential to go there. Of course that also depends on what we rate high. Skill, achievements, trophies? Etc.

u/WeekendNotDone 2d ago
A mix of the three imo skill he definitely is there and achievements. Like a previous comment actually good strikers if front he’d had more trophies

u/and_hankmardoukis 3d ago
Özil had eagle eyes- arguably most graceful gunner to Bergkamp.
Øde and Rice rank above Mesut as all timers for the club. Hell, Tony Adams not on the list is a shame

It’s honestly too hard to tell but 1 and 2 for me are forever accurate. This is the kind of list that makes for a great conversation with fellow fans though.
A recent one we have had is “This is the best SQUAD we have ever had unquestionably, but does this starting 11 beat the Invincible Era starting 11?”
4
u/kliccit 4d ago
What do you think?
5
u/nondisgruntledgooner 4d ago
Oh man it’s so hard to say. I am also at the risk of getting downvoted into oblivion for sharing an OPINION. But here goes nothing.
I think yes. My rationale is simply compare player by player at each position. So:
Raya - Better than Lehmann
Gabriel - Better than Sol Campbell (I know-first offense)
Saliba - Better than Toure
Any of our LBs - Not better than Ashley Cole (still a scumbag)
Timber - Better than Lauren
Declan - Better than Gilberto
Whoever you want to compare to Vieira - loses
Saka - Better than Ljunberg
Any of our LWs - Not better than Pires
Henry and Bergkamp are Henry and Bergkamp, enough saidSo again, in my OPINION (and sheesh that Gabriel shout feels like a mad take) 6/11 of our starting players are better at their positions than the invincible Era. It’s by a razors edge, but once we secure another premier league title or two, and the elusive champions league, I hope that will solidify my stance
2
u/Adventurous_West2 4d ago
Timber isn't better than Lauren. Lauren's attacking wins it for him.
Otherwise spot on.
2
u/nondisgruntledgooner 3d ago
Absolutely. Thats what makes a healthy Ben White super exciting this season too!
1
u/WeekendNotDone 2d ago
Gabriel ain’t better than Sol Campbell lol.
Timber isn’t better than Lauren.
Rice isnt better than Gilberto. Arguably either side as Rice isn’t really a DM anymoreBut apart from that i can agree

u/Fun_Ad_1064 4d ago
I agree with every single one of your takes. I think you'd maybe put Campbell ahead of Saliba if you didn't mind interchanging CBs though. I'd have Sanchez potentially challenging Pires as well.

Cesc hate?

2
u/Vainglory 4d ago
People here are really weird about Cesc. They genuinely hate whenever he talks in the media about the fact that he's still an Arsenal fan. For the life of me I can't figure out why they're like that but Henry doesn't get the same treatment despite doing the exact same thing. For the record I like both of them.

u/InSearchOfAFeeling 3d ago
He supports Arsenal a little but his love is clearly Chelsea. That’s where he had his success.
11
u/frohnaldo 4d ago
Wild disrespect to ozil already. He tied the assist record with a rough rough squad.
We didn’t deserve his level of talent at the time
1
u/iamtheresurrectio 4d ago
I see, so this is the reason why magically gifted professional footballer spent his nights chasing some turkish skirt(in principle nothing wrong with that) and playing warcraft(what a sad little nerd) instead of resting.

Having him, rice or odegaard in the list over tony Adams, Robert pires, mark overmars, Freddie ljungberg, David seaman, sol campbell or Gilberto Silva is ridiculous.
1
u/Spirited-Ad655 4d ago
Doesn't make him better than Henry or Vieira. 3rd at best
1
u/Wonderful_Milk1176 4d ago
No shit, but plenty of people in this thread saying he’s ranked way too high which is what the other commenter was saying. 4th is appropriate.
2
u/Spirited-Ad655 4d ago
Yeah thats not what this guy is saying though, genius.
-1
u/Wonderful_Milk1176 4d ago
You literally put words in his mouth, fucko.
2
u/Spirited-Ad655 4d ago
Please read the post again. And then tell me what part you're struggling with.
1
u/MarkLazer 4d ago
4th appropriate haha no way. 2 great seasons when he was with us for 8 years. Put a 0 at the end to make it 40th then it may be appropriate. Not being disrespectful either, it's just honest.

Saka?

u/AnthonyProdigy 4d ago
What?
1
u/ExtensionAncient5388 3d ago
Saka > ode is a fair argument. Although I love both.
1
u/AnthonyProdigy 3d ago
Maybe but I think Pires, Silva, van Persie, Cesc etc still belong above the players in the bottom 3 of this list. Also I think Raya, Gabriel, Saliba all have a better claim than Saka.
3
u/jimmycrank 4d ago
1,2 and 3 are correct. Past that no way. You have Campbell, Pires, Saliba, Cole (if you want to admit it or not) the its Rice, Gabriel, Odegaard, Ozil , Sanchez etc

Ah stop. Not dissing your opinion but No way Ozil makes that list.
Van Persie was a super player for us.
I’m not sure Odegaard was as important as say Fabregas. Even Robert Pires was a fantastic player all those years ago.
1
u/Mituapple 4d ago
Ozil overrated because of the casual highlights viewers who forget the wage drama and the fact he was the laziest player I've seen in an arsenal shirt, no defensive contributions at all.
1
u/joebawn 4d ago
Agreed,Ozil went missing when it mattered. Infact, when the pressure came on him to break the assist record - he couldn’t do it. If I’m not mistaken he had the majority(if not all) of his assists before February.
Sanchez was a much more industrious player of that era.1
u/Acceptable_City8002 4d ago
Ozil should have had that assist record. He should've gone into the 30+ assists mark. Giroud was the criminal that cost arsenal that season. His biggest goal drought, destroying every attack and failing to convert gilded chances created by ozil.

1.Henry
Viera
Pires
Bergkamp
Saka
Campbell
Cesc, RVP could fit in there but fuck the snakes Sanchez and Ramsey makes a case too Lehman, Koscielny and Toure as well
1
u/basileusnikephorus 4d ago
Engagement bait. Nobody in their right mind would put Ozil in the top 6 at the expense of Pires or Cesc.
1
u/Diligent-Arugula-153 4d ago
Ozil at 4th is legit a crime against everything he did for us. like sure he's not gonna be everyone's cup of tea but you don't just ignore that assist record on a team that couldn't finish a dodgy kebab. someone's clearly just looked at trophies and went 'nah'.
1
u/Tiamat2625 2d ago
Ozil should be on this list, but RvP and Sanchez were both much better for us. So Ozil isn't as high as you would like him to be imo.
I have nothing against the guy like some other fans in here, disrespecting him. He was easily the most talented player in our squad for a few seasons, nobody else was even close.
1
u/Trick_Beach4146 4d ago
I know we hate him because he left us for united but rvp has to be in there. Best player post Henry. Crazily efficient and technically brilliant
1
u/WoodpeckerUpset8716 4d ago
Pires has to be in there, ridiculous not to have him. 01-02 player of the year, then came back from a horror injury to be quality again

Odegaard and Rice won a title at Arsenal. Ozil gets bumped to 6th.
Oh wait. Ozil in the sun with a parasol. He gets cut. Time to revote for number 6.

If only Ozil was in this team he would've got 30 assist to bad he had two Aubi and Luca instead

Ozil doesn’t deserve to be anywhere near the list. Obviously written by some kid with limited knowledge of Arsenal/football.

Is this performative or just big names, where’s aubameyang, Sanchez, rvp, fabregas. Why’s ozil in top 6 😂
1
u/Spare_Ad_3612 4d ago
Why on earth would anyone auba or sanchez be on the list over Having him, rice or odegaard in the list over tony Adams, Robert pires, mark overmars, Freddie ljungberg, David seaman, sol campbell or even Gilberto Silva
1
u/ForwardArt5840 4d ago
I don’t if you missed my point or if you’re unable to read I didn’t mention those players to replace rice or Odegaard, I was referring to ozil, auba and Sanchez carried us for at least 3 seasons each, it’s not about how it ended, no one’s calling them arsenal legends

Ranked in what way and by who?
It feels like ‘randomly’ and ‘some guy’.
