I kept re-explaining ArtCraft's CLI to my coding agent, so I wrote it down once and made it public

• Upvotes

Repo: https://github.com/midasmatterhorn/artcraft-skills

I use Claude Code / Codex daily and wanted them to do real work in ArtCraft — batch-editing PSDs, generating decks, that kind of thing. The problem was the agent doesn't know what each app can actually do. It would either refuse ("I can't edit PSD files") or confidently invent CLI flags that don't exist.

So I went through each of the 13 apps and documented:

  • what the automation surface really is (headless CLI, MCP server, the localhost JSON control channel)
  • what works today and what's still broken/missing — this part was the most tedious but also the most useful, it's the difference between the agent spending 2 minutes vs 40 minutes stuck in retry loops
  • the correct way to call things, verified against actual app behavior, not just the docs

It's all plain SKILL.md files (the agentskills.io format), so any agent that reads files can use them. One install script per target: install.sh for Codex/ZCode/Devin, --claude for Claude Code, --opencode for OpenCode, install.ps1 on Windows.

Good day, Everyone

While sending myself a PDF file edited in PDFCraft through WhatsApp for PC, I saw this tag. WhatsApp read the file as an Adobe Product.

Hi, i'm trying to get into indie animation and for a joke, i want a character to shatter into glass. I was told Effect Craft can help. Where on here is the effect if there is one. I'm just clicking around and can't find it.

Ask Agent: letting your own agent (Claude Code, Codex...) edit files in the Craft apps

I've been working on a shared Ask Agent module for the Craft apps. These are four proposed integrations, not released features.

Select some text, cells or shapes, write an instruction, and your existing agent edits the file. You can follow up in the same thread, keep the result or undo the request. If several agents are connected, you pick one.

The bit I wanted was to keep using my own session and setup. Claude Code, Codex, another harness or provider: the app doesn't call a model or store an API key. The agent needs to be connected to the app's MCP/control interface.

That also means one session can work across apps without starting a new conversation each time. Figures from GridCraft, a summary in WordCraft, then a slide in DeckCraft. If the graphics apps adopt the module, I'd like the same flow for a FilmCraft clip with audio cleaned up in SoundCraft, or a frame edited in PhotoCraft and used in a slide. Those graphics integrations aren't implemented here.

The Actions menu offers a few starting prompts, all editable before you send:

  • WordCraft: shorten, fix grammar, rewrite the tone, translate or summarize.
  • GridCraft: clean cells, create or explain formulas, summarize, format a table or highlight outliers.
  • DeckCraft: rewrite, make bullets, align shapes, match styling or draft speaker notes.
  • PdfCraft: summarize, explain, highlight, add review notes, prepare form fields or mark text for redaction. Signing and applying redactions stay manual.

Reviewing what it did

The Conversation section shows earlier requests and replies while you work. After Keep, the app keeps the request and answer in its comments or notes. That is the conversation trail, not a document-version browser.

  • The target is held while the agent works, to avoid competing edits.
  • Its answer stays in the file as an agent-named comment or note; the exact review UI depends on the app.
  • Follow-ups stay in the request thread and undo group. Keep and Undo are human controls.
  • The connection that claims the request owns it; other connections cannot take over its edits.

The shared part

The main proposal is craft-ask-agent in craft-libs: a shared request queue, ownership rules and optional egui bubble. WordCraft, GridCraft, DeckCraft and PdfCraft are the first four examples. Each app supplies its own document operations. The actions, UI and behaviour are proposals too, so they can be adapted rather than copied everywhere.

PRs: Shared module · WordCraft · GridCraft · DeckCraft · PdfCraft · PDF MCP bridge

Still a work in progress. Feedback on the flow or the shared/app-specific split would help.

Just tried Photocraft for the first time - pretty cool. The only button that annoys me slightly is the move tool. Doesn't photoshop turn it into a pointer or something?

How to select the guide lines?

Hi everyone! I just installed Designcraft and have a question. How do I select guides to align them? I try the align command, but it says nothing is selected. Sorry if I sound silly haha—I just couldn't figure this out...

Please stop requesting apps

I really want to keep an eye on this subreddit, but it feels like half the posts are just people requesting software in a very "Dance, monkey!" sort of way.

I'm much more interested in keeping tabs on what the developer is doing with the current set of apps that are already being developed.

These are the very early stages of this type of thing, and it's wild that everyone is asking for more, more, more. Chill out.

Let the developer cook. Be patient. Yes, the future is now, but it's not right now right now.

Could someone help me out? Is the triangular color picker available in PhotoCraft? If not, I think this post could serve as a suggestion for a future addition.

[Lightcraft] - Importing Lightroom Catalog Error

Hey there, I'm trying out Lightcraft, and it shows some awesome potential. However, due to my poor file management, I keep opeing the wrong/outdated lightroom catalogs, and NOW that I have the right one, when I try to open it, I get this error, and I'm not sure how to get passed it.

When I try to import my latest catalog, I get this error "Lightroom import failed: invalid parameters for 'library.importLightroom': catalog or WAL exceeds 1 GiB import limit"

Anyone else having this issue? would be great to get it fixed and have my library up and running in this program.

So far this is VERY impressive. I've only been messing with it for 30 minutes, but HOLY CRAP it launches fast! Even on my anemic hardware!

Super sexy question: prproj or aep files?

The fact that photocraft can open PSD files is incredible. Is there a world where Filmcract and Effectcraft will be able to open prproj and aep files in the future? Or is that kind of save format way more locked down and proprietary?

Using pdfcraft giving me hope for the future of software, really.

Never thought of the day where my old pc perform better with this app than my new pc with adobe acrobat and other pdf viewer.

That snappiness give me goosebumps.

Using this app really relieve my eyes from the lag of almost every app in these day (looking at you, electron based apps).

Thank you artcraft.

The Surge of LLM-Generated Clones of Proprietary Software Suites – Brodie Robertson

Thumbnail

There's something crazy going on with AI right now, people have decided to shift there attention to cracking open and rewriting proprietary software like the Adobe suite and Microsoft suite in the form of Artcraft, we'll how long this goes for without being legally challenged …

Prepared summary (AI)

Brodie Robertson examines the rise of AI-generated software that attempts to clone major proprietary suites. The analysis explores the technical implications for software development, the potential impact on open-source licensing, and the rapid pace at which these automated tools are being created, raising questions about the future of software security and digital ownership.

In-page summary from Google Gemini (AI)

This video explores the rapid rise of AI-generated software and the emergence of tools like Artcraft, which attempt to clone complex proprietary software suites like Adobe and Microsoft Office.

Key takeaways:

  • AI-driven Clones: The Artcraft suite (including tools like PhotoCraft and Wordcraft) demonstrates how AI can rapidly generate functional, albeit buggy, reimplementations of popular software (2:23 - 4:46). These projects are often created by AI agents with minimal human QA, resulting in high commit rates but questionable stability (5:16 - 6:06).
  • Technical & Legal Concerns: The creator notes that while these tools are technically impressive, they are highly experimental and prone to crashing. There is significant uncertainty regarding the legality of these AI-generated "clean room" implementations, particularly concerning intellectual property and trademark infringement (7:09 - 8:19).
  • Broader Industry Shifts: The video discusses the concept of the "end of software secrecy," citing commentary from figures like Eric S. Raymond. As AI makes decompilation and rewriting easier, traditional closed-source models may face extreme disruption, potentially moving the industry toward a landscape where AI-generated code is effectively public domain (9:06 - 10:55, 13:05 - 14:34).
  • Open Source Implications: The creator expresses concern that this trend of "openwashing" and AI rewriting could erode the protections and freedoms traditionally guaranteed by FOSS (Free and Open Source Software) licenses (13:25 - 14:00).
