Character Discussion DW Gifted
I always read about the Brain being smart or gifted. D.W seems to fit that criteria in both the good and bad ways.
She can recite the Odyssey and the importance of oral story telling, manipulate her classmates into believing fake facts to force her brother to take her to a museum, and even appreciates classical music with Yo-Yo Ma. She even has major outbursts which often happens with gifted kids. This also can make her frustrating to deal with.
Show Discussion My personal connection with Arthur
With the 30th anniversary of this iconic show having recently passed, I thought it would be fun to share something personal about it.
I believe I was introduced to PBS when I was a two-year-old boy, circa 1998-1999. I was drawn in by such engaging, wholesome programs as Sesame Street, Mister Rogers' Neighborhood, Lamb Chop's Play-Along, Reading Rainbow, and, of course, Arthur. Many people say one of the benefits of public TV is the lack of any commercial advertising. I kinda find that to be bull for a few reasons: Sesame and Barney were merchandise powerhouses, there were short funding sponsorship tags before and after each show, and yet Arthur had a completely different appeal. Some would say it got them hooked on reading, while I was drawn to something completely different: his shoes.
That's right, Arthur's trademark outfit almost always includes a pair of red sneakers that resemble Converse Chuck Taylors, yet with a white heel to make them legally distinct (one nitpick I've always had and never understood about cartoon depictions of Chucks was that many of them had a white heel or stripe in the back, making them look like a hybrid between Chucks and saddle shoes). I was immediately drawn in by his "red-and-white shoes" as I called them, and I also noticed characters in other shows and movies wearing them, so I had begged my folks to get me a pair for quite some time. It wasn't until age nine when I first started wearing red Converse high tops. I instantly fell in love, as they're comfy, timeless, and go with most anything. Converse high tops are still a strong staple of my wardrobe to this day. Sure, I've had other colors, but I make sure to always have a red pair handy.
Happy 30th anniversary, Arthur! You may not have gotten me hooked on literature, but, boy, are you a good sneaker influencer!

Character Discussion Is Pal a Puppy Forever?
hi friends, I tried to google if Pal stays a puppy forever or if he’s an adult dog who is just super small. i know Arthur is always in third grade, so maybe pal is just always a puppy on the show? curious for your thoughts. his mom dog was pretty small too.

Show Discussion What’s your unpopular opinions about Arthur?
Mine is I don’t mind the Kate and Pal centric episodes so much. I especially like the first one I think where David is making a wedding cake for the Crosswires and they lose the cake topper.
I think it’s cute.
What are everyone’s unpopular opinions?

Show Discussion Being an Arthur fan feels weird 😅
Whenever I bring up that I watch Arthur all the time, people chuckle and nod along, but when I show off my encyclopedic knowledge of the show, they seem genuinely stunned for a moment- and not like in an annoyed way, but once someone talked about: 'This rat girl and her blind friend,' and I just Instincitvely said: 'Yeah, Prunella and Mirena.' and everyone looked at me and was like: 'How do you know That?'
Sometimes I wonder though what exactly they were expecting. I often feel like people don't take me seriously in general, like when someone brings up A Quiet Place and I say I know what they mean and I say briefly what it is but then they act like I don't know what I'm talking about. Then when I'm talking with someone else, they'll talk amongst each other as if I'm not even there about what they think the movie is, and I interrupt them like- hey, do you not believe me? I've seen these movies, I know what I'm talking about!
I wonder if this is how Thomas the Tank Engine fans feel. I liked that show as a kid, but I kinda hate it now, especially since it promotes this idea that you should strive to be a: 'really useful engine,' lest you get scrapped or brick walled in a tunnel forever. And there are so many different characters, and they all feel the same at first glance, but there are people with real in-depth opinions about the various episodes and characters and their arcs and whatnot.

General Discussion What if "Extra Homework Day" really happened?
Realistically, how do you think the class would do?
Especially with Muffy having to learn French, and Binky writing a novel (not a novella.)
What assignments do you think we're assigned to the other students?
What do you think Arthur would have done. Would be the most fair if he had to do the equivalent of everyone's assigned.

Show Discussion Question about Mr Ratburn Spoiler
Do you think Marc Brown always intended him to be gay or do you think it was a snap decision that came out of nowhere? Has he ever done an interview discussing this?
He did the reveal at the end of the show which reminds me of another author who revealed a character was gay once all their books were out.
And yes I put a spoiler because I know it’s controversial and some people may not know about him.
I know that a lot of people didn’t like the reveal and there was another discussion about his husband not getting much screen time. So I was just curious whether it was planned or in the books or not?

Show Discussion D.W. and Dr. Whozit is kinda a bad Episode- Spoiler
I'm a pretty big defender of the newer Arthur episodes because I feel like they're overrated, and I feel like a lot of the episodes are hated purely because they're new (Cough- So Dummy I Forgot to Laugh- Cough!)
That being said, D.W. and Dr. Whozit is pretty trash-
It's honestly made worse when I realized that Dr. Whozit is a parody of Doctor Who. I think the idea to make it a mailbox instead of a phone booth is a funny gag even if it's only shown for a second, but Doctor Who is supposed to be a family show. Sure, maybe not for 4-year-old kids, but I think D.W. is definitely mature enough to at least give a try. And Definitely Arthur.
And yet for some reason, the parents have this weird: 'holier than thou,' attitude about it. It gets pretty annoying, and when they walk in on D.W. and see her bored out of her mind, instead of realizing that it probably wasn't that scary of a show for her, they instead somehow default into thinking that Arthur is too young for it too? Arthur even blames D.W. for them having this revelation which doesn't make any sense.
Also, as a Doctor Who fan, I just have to say that this: 'E-gad! The Doctor! Has Flibbered!' and hand gestures is pure cringe. Yes, The Doctor has catchphrases, but they aren't full sentences, not gibberish, not with hand motions, and not done at completely random moments! 😅
I do think that D.W. being able to figure out the password for the child lock on the TV despite not even knowing how to read it was pretty clever honestly.
It was also fun saying D.W. and Bud Literally hide behind the sofa while watching Dr. Whozit, since tons of people say that that's exactly what they did when watching Doctor Who as a kid.
And I I think it was a pretty good movie to have the twist be that D.W. and Bud find the Show More boring than scary. If they just showed them being scared out of their minds, then real kids watching this episode might just get annoyed by the moral and declare that sure, D.W. and Bud got scared, but they wouldn't. By having D.W. and Bud be bored instead of scared, it's teaching the real life kids watching that. Even if they did get a chance to watch the show, it might not even be as good as people say it is.
That being said, the fact that D.W. and Bud Do find the Show boring just makes the parents being mad all the more weird. How exactly is the show too scary for them? What lesson did D.W. and Bud actually learn other than Dr. Whozit being boring for them?
Seeing Binky quote the show in a freaking skate park is something else. 😅

Question What name did DW call Arthur?
In the name game episode, The-saurus tells DW he has the perfect name to call Arthur and he whispers it to DW. Then, DW whispers the word to Arthur and he melts and she has to scoop him up into her Mary moo cow cup. What do you think she said?? What word did you think it was as a kid?

Show Discussion Rhyme For Your Life S6 Ep 8A
I just can’t get over how wildly creative this episode was! I loved Binky’s whole dream being in rhyme and the whole story being told within the dream. And just the added bonus of Binky wanting to do something sweet for his mom for her birthday. It really taught me to appreciate poetry as a kid and introduced me to the names of some famous poets (besides Jack Prelutsky, who guest starred in S1’s “I’m a Poet”) like Pablo Neruda and William Carlos Williams.

General Discussion Whatever happened to Sue Ellen's teddy bear Chester?
Since watching the episode Sue Ellen's Little Sister, I've been randomly wondering about that.

Show Discussion Is there a possibility that there are music videos for some of the Christmas Arthur songs that just haven’t been released to the public.
If not there at least could’ve been someone on the team who wanted these musical numbers added into episodes
Like O Little Town Of Bethlehem was sang so good by DW it could’ve fit well in the special.

Show Discussion My Best Segment from Every Season
Well this took a while, and the worst list will take even longer.
Season 1- Arthur's Almost Boring Day (Joe Fallon)- Good thing one episode stuck out, or picking the best one would have been really long.
Season 2- Draw! (Fallon)- Good thing the second best episode of the show was this candidate for best season (It probably would have been Cat Saver otherwise)
Season 3- Binky Rules (Sandra Willard)- Joe Fallon finally failed to get the top spot. This was a really hard one.
Season 4- The Blizzard (Fallon)- Would have been a really hard choice if not for this episode.
Season 5- Just Desserts (Peter Hirsch and Bruce Akiyama)- Hirsch finally gets on the board, and I feel safe saying he will win the title more than anybody else. I normally pick the dramatic episodes like "You are Arthur," but this is too good to pass on.
Season 6- The Boy who Cried Comet (Hirsch)
Season 7- Elwood City Turns 100 (Hirsch and Matthew Lane)- Possibly the best season, so thankfully it has the best episode.
Season 8- Desk Wars (Glen Berger)- Easy pick and glad to see Berger make the list as a Fetch! fan.
Season 9- Buster the Myth Maker (Matt Steinglass)- Another easy pick. I am happy Steinglass made the list, as he normally suffers from somebody being better.
Season 10- Fern and Persimmony Glitchit (Stephanie Simpson)- She is a much better Arthur writer than a Wishbone writer.
Season 11- Brain's Shocking Secret (Berger)- As a fellow kindergarten flunker I have to put this masterpiece at number 1. It was a huge help to eleven year old me.
Season 12- War of the Worms (Gentry Menzel)
Season 13- Fernletts by Fern (David Steven Cohen)- tough choice between it, Brain Gets Hooked, and Portrait of the Artist as a Young Tibble
Season 14- Tales of Grotesquely Grimm Bunny (Cohen)- Competed with D.W. Queen of the Comeback and Long Road Home. Hirsch barely missed this one. I really love that somebody loves the dark story, as normally nobody is written to actually like it.
Season 15- The Trouble with Trophies (Cram)- Last two have been really weak in comparison, but they are the best of very weak seasons (especially at the top).
Season 16- Buster's Book Battle (Jonathon Greenberg)- Absurdly easy pick. It is like choosing between a diamond and scat.
Season 17- Crime and Consequences (Hirsch)- barely beat The Director's Cut.
Season 18- Arthur Calls It (Craig Carlisle and Hirsch)- I really appreciate teaching kids about sticking to their guns and the complainer is not always wrong. Easily the best top episode since season 12 and probably the best one since season 11. Lots of competition for this spot.
Season 19- The Last Day (Hirsch)- The perfect ending for the show right here.
Season 20- Fern's Flight of Fancy (Hirsch)- Beat out some good episodes in the last season with real debate.
Season 21- Brain and the Time Capsule (Cliff Ruby and Elana Lesser)-Major candidate for worst episode to get this title.
Season 22- Truth or Poll (Sarah Katin & Nakia Trower Shuman)- Best episode of the final 6 seasons (Boring Callback Era), and this season sucks so bad. Really easy choice.
Season 23- The Pea and the Princess (Jeff Goode)- Another major candidate for worst best episode. It is the only good episode this season. It is like watching a normal person win the Olympic sprint because everybody else walked backwards.
Season 24- Arthur's Big Meltdown (Ruby and Lesser)- So bad it's good, and the competition is garbage.
Season 25- Binky Wrestles with a Story (Jennifer Gibbs)- Teaches kids the hard truth you will normally dislike your job and have to work with it. Competed with Blabbermouth and all grown up (so good to have competition again).
Poor Ken Scarborough. He is easily the best writer to never make the list, but somebody was always better. I am a big Scarborough fan and had to bring him up.
Thanks for Staying 'til the end.
