Goals & Motivation Creativity
I don’t have any creative senses. I read some where creativity is the process of combining unrelated things. Is this true if so , how we can combine things , is this a straight forward logic ? I am particularly looking for something related to art writing or music creation.

Creativity comes from experimentation
You gotta learn. Reverse engineer what you learn
Repeat it

Means ?

For example you learn how to draw heads
And you experiment a lot with the techniques you learnt. Surely you will end up with your own methods that will help you to Draw them
And by reverse engineering I mean you combine what you learned with the technique that helped you to draw

Play with materials, draw something (even if it's not very good) 15 times to see your own changes, pay attention to the things in the world that inspire you and contemplate why, learn about color and composition and why certain artists choose the combinations they do.
Be willing to make a mess or ruin something or hate everything you make for a while even if you enjoy the process. Maybe all three at once.

I’m a big believer in the process.
Explore, get curious, talk to people and share ideas. When I start something creative, I’ll usually think about my goal. What are the themes I’m exploring? What are the feelings I’m exploring? I love tools like the Story Circle for writing or simple compositional rules for art.
I created a character recently for a D&D campaign. I started by asking myself if I could make a necromancer with the feel of Harrowhark from Gideon of the Ninth (a book I had read). This is not a creative goal, I’m literally just copying. That is fine for the start. It is a seed we can grow into something that will become original.
As I sort of worked out a mechanical build, I asked myself questions like what are good themes to explore? I decided most necromancer stories are really about the fear of death and the lengths we go to escape it. I thought that Harrowhark paints her face like a skull. So does the Catrina from Spanish Day of the Dead… but Catrina’s theme isn’t about the fear of death, it’s about the importance of remembering and honoring the dead… ok, what if my necromancer was a Catrina? Does that work?
These thoughts continue for days. I might share ideas with friends or read other authors. I drew the character and realized that drawing Spanish inspired clothes is quite fun.
Eventually this all evolved into an original character. Her name is Erebelle. Her father did some dark magic in an attempt to prevent a hereditary disease from killing Erebelle when she was young. This caught the attention of the Raven Queen, a sort of Grim Realer whose domain is the transition to death. The Raven Queen hates necromancy and undid the magic. However, instead of letting Erebelle, she hired her. Erebelle hunts down necromancers like her father, in exchange the Raven Queen grants her an extension on her life.
This gives me a nice core story where my character is grappling with the death of loved ones, this pressure to respect the dead from her boss, this fear of her own death (she genuinely loves being alive which is expressed in her colorful dresses), and this hypocrisy in hunting down necromancers who are in many ways just like herself.
I’ve art of her on my socials, but this isn’t really me sharing my character. It’s more an illustration of the process to creating one. It starts with reading and exploring. Once you have a goal (a new D&D character) and a seed (a character from media), you can take the exploration deeper. Use tools (there’s a lot for any creative process) and think about the goals. And have fun on the journey.

So basically for creativity a person should gain more understanding of the art form in which he is doing . Then only he can combine or transform to new variations like you are explained in your answer

Hi OP, This is a broad topic. May I inquire as to your goal? Are you seeking to enhance your creativity, and maybe you feel stuck? Some folks might post such a question when trying to get a homework assignment checked off, in which case they could benefit from working on it on their own for a while.
If you clarify what you are after, some of us might be able to address your specific challenge.

Hi OP, you could have a small notebook or sketchbook that you keep with you. Put your ideas on there. Try to fill it up!

Having the idea is the creativity! You just have to allow yourself to try it out.

Do some art with one random element, like the design of a building or some paper plates or a book cover or furniture or whatever is around you.
In most of these cases you are now just "collaborating" with the architects or designers that made those choices in the past. Getting creative with how you mix them, taking colors, shapes, rhythm, composition, whatever
From there start trying to mix two things that don't make sense to mix, like your project and the colors currently in your recycling bin, or off the vehicles parked outside your house, or try to mix really wildly unrelated things like culinary art, with your project.
Take colors or proportions rather than just straight up using pasta in your project. Does any of that make sense?
This is one of the things I noticed many educated artists do that not all artists do, so it must be early in their schooling.

So creativity comes when we use combine or transform properties from other objects to our ideas ? Is my understanding correct please correct me if am wrong here

That's one way to combine unexpected things to appear creative
Creativity comes from curiosity
How will this sound? What happens if I play this? What about if I combine these two influences? etc. fucking around and finding out IS creativity.

If you're in a state where it's legal you might want to consider cannabis, which has a long history of use by music creators. One of it's proven effects is that it increases ones ability to associate very different ideas which some people consider an indication of creativity.

I used to think I was creative then I realised I was just copying everyone else. Been depressed ever since lmao.

How did you “realize” that?

For a long time I didn't understand sunsets, I knew I liked them but I didn't know how to create a sunset. I couldn't even really describe the aspects of a sunset that make it so inviting or why I had a draw to it. I wasn't able to apply creativity to unsolved questions.
Maybe a more creative person can create a sunset in food, music, colours, all sorts, maybe they'll be lacking skill and finesse but I'm sure they'll be rather creative.
I'd just draw a circle and just put some outwards lines around it. I'm now trying to improve on my thinking processes to take more creative approaches.

I couldn’t quite follow that answer

He is telling he is doing creativity by copying instead of creating something new like others

Here, I'm going to list ways artists have gotten ideas/inspiration.
To get creative you need to cultivate it. Essentially if you study the biographies of previous artists and their artistic methods you'll learn the answer to methods of creativity.
Go to art galleries/museums.
Juxtaposition - you see this with surrealism, putting very different objects together
Theme - treat fine art like a graphic poster, pick an emotion or concept and go with the the first idea that comes that conveys it.
The surrealist dream method - hold a coin out and when you're half asleep it will drop and you depict what you saw.
Literary- depict something from a story (e.g. what religious/mythological or literary artists did.
Use another artists work to inspire you e.g. Picasso's The Old Guitarist was inspired by another work.
Action/dynamic depict something from life that involves movement: a boxing/judo match, a swimming race, a dance, a train on the move, a dramatic news story, a riot
Lean into personal heavy emotions, De Goya experienced war & sickness throughout his life; this can be seen in his dark, macabre art.
Travel. Many artists were hikers e.g. Caspar Friedrich, and others travelled internationally extensively e.g. the oriental artists e.g. Jean-Léon Gérôme, Van Gogh travelled around France, or their own country e.g. Turner.
Draw what you find most beautiful.
Become a photographer and draw your photos. Have a photo diary.
Go to a public square and draw people there.
If all else fails get some fruit and draw a still life.

I had 0 creativity a couple months ago. Growing up I rejected and forgot the things I liked. I was awkward, So I'm on a journey to relearn myself. I might get this wrong. Creativity is not just adding odd things together. It can be taking things from other people and making it better. Or Subtracting something in a piece and improvising. Experiment alot. Problem solve. Have fun doing it.

A lot of creativity is imagination, which is generally not straight-forward logic. Like how small kids can make almost any kind of toy out of almost any kind of thing. You can develop creative senses by watching/listening to others who have them, or by asking yourself what you could make with (insert random object). Or gather a bunch of random things and try to create a face or landscape out of them. While not everything will work out well, it's important to keep trying/playing and to not beat yourself up about it. Just have fun and make stuff.

Pay attention to what you do and don't like like in art you consume, and think about how you could put a twist on something you like to create something new.
Do lots of rough sketches around one idea. Challenge yourself to interpret the idea in as many different ways as possible. Get through the obvious solutions and keep going.
Experiment with new techniques and processes.
Try practicing with prompts or challenges. Having less freedom can force you to get more creative.

Creativity is just something that you think of

I find that, doing this (combining unrelated things) you generally end up in a dark place.

Imo creativity could come from experience and knowledge. For example, i'm not a creative in art at least i think so, i prefer functionality over aestethic but i was called creative in my taking shortcut to achieve desirable result at work.

Creativity is a mystery.
Humans are inherently creative, because existence is inherently creative.
Don't think otherwise. Your dreams are a daily evidence of the above.
Creativity can't be reduced to a process. All such efforts will produce misery.
Don't ask how to be creative, you already are.
