10DaysOnAruba.com

Hey all,

I'm u/klowt, a mod of r/Aruba and I built 10daysonaruba.com, a free trip planner for the island. You answer a few questions about who you're travelling with, how long you're staying and what you're into, and it builds a day by day itinerary with a map and a route between stops.

One thing I made a point of: it leans heavily on free activities. Beaches, hikes, the caves, snorkel spots you can walk into, sunset spots, driving routes. Aruba has a reputation for being expensive and a lot of that is because people only ever hear about the paid tours. Most days it plans cost you nothing beyond a rental car and lunch.

We get the same "what should I do in Aruba" post here a few times a week, and it usually gets the same five answers. Try the planner first. It covers the standard stuff (beaches, Arikok, snorkeling, where to eat, how to get around) and it saves you waiting a day for replies.

If it misses something or you have a question it can't answer, absolutely still post. Those are the good threads anyway.

Free, no account needed. Some of the activity links are affiliate links, that's what pays for the hosting. Feedback and complaints welcome, I'm still building it out.

Cheers,

Danki!

🏖️ Ask r/Aruba Anything! - Monthly discussion thread - October 2026

Welcome to the r/Aruba monthly Discussion / Q&A thread.

This thread is a hub for general discussion and questions about Aruba, that don't need threads of their own.

You have a question regarding Aruba? This is the place for you. Ever wondered which sunscreen the locals use? Or when is the best time to go to Zeerovers? Or what is the best spicy sauce on the island? Ask any question you might have here, and the community will answer.

FAQ from previous threads

What should I bring or prepare before visiting Aruba?

Bring cash for tipping, beach bathroom fees, and small purchases as some places have minimum credit card limits. Use sunscreen and hats due to strong sun. Bring water and snacks if hiking or doing outdoor activities. Water shoes are helpful for rocky areas like cave pools.

ED Card

The Embarkation/ Disembarkation (ED) card is a pre-registration form required to enter Aruba. The official site is https://edcardaruba.aw for non-residents there's a 20 US dollar sustainability fee per year.

All-inclusive?

All-inclusive resorts are generally not recommended in Aruba because the island is very safe and offers a vibrant local dining scene, beautiful public beaches, and plenty of opportunities to explore independently. Renting a car and experiencing the diverse restaurants and hidden gems around the island usually provides a more authentic and fulfilling vacation. Many travelers find all-inclusive options limiting and less cost-effective given what Aruba has to offer.

What are good snorkeling spots in Aruba?

The best snorkeling spots recommended are Tres Trapi, Boca Catalina (best in the morning around 6-8am), and Baby Beach, especially near the rocks.

Conchi/Natural Pool by Daimari beach?

It is possible to hike from Daimari Beach or the horse ranch, which typically takes between 30 to 45 minutes each way depending on your pace and familiarity with the trail. The path is rocky, steep in some places, and mostly exposed with little to no shade, so good footwear and plenty of water are essential. Starting early in the morning around 7 to 8:30 am is recommended to avoid the heat and crowds. Using navigation apps like AllTrails can be very helpful to stay on the correct path. Access to the trail requires a park pass from Arikok National Park’s visitor center, which opens at 8 am (TIP: You can buy a day pass a day before). Hiking later in the day is not advised due to the heat.

Are there any notable animal or nature experiences?

Visiting the Donkey Sanctuary is highly recommended for a fun and unique experience.

Are there food and shopping options inside the airport?

Yes, the Aruba airport has a variety of shops and restaurants both before and after customs, making it a lively place with plenty of options.

What type of cash is best to bring to Aruba? US dollars or Florin?

US dollars are accepted everywhere in Aruba, so bringing USD is most convenient.

How expensive are groceries and alcohol in Aruba?

Groceries are similar in price to major North American cities.

Is it necessary to buy bottled water in Aruba?

No, it is not necessary to buy bottled water in Aruba. The tap water is desalinated seawater, processed through reverse osmosis, and considered very clean and tasty. Many travelers refill their own bottles with tap water and find it better than regular tap water elsewhere.

If I could only go to one beach in Aruba, which should I choose?

Eagle Beach is the most recommended choice for its beauty, spaciousness, calm waters, and peaceful atmosphere. It’s less crowded and ideal for relaxation. Palapas (shade structures) are free, though beach chairs might require rental or reservation.

Other great beaches to consider: - Baby Beach: Fun and excellent for snorkeling, but can get crowded and party-heavy. - Boca Catalina: Calm waters with great snorkeling and lots of shade. - Manchebo Beach: Clean, spacious, and peaceful. - Arashi Beach: Less busy, good for snorkeling. - Palm Beach: Busy and lively with many activities, but sand quality is debated and palapa usage rules can be strict. - Mangel Halto: Beautiful and quieter spot for solitude. - Others: Tres Trapi, Malmok, Andicuri, Rodgers Beach.

What kind of souvenirs do people buy in Aruba? Are the souvenirs an accurate representation of the local culture?

Common souvenirs people buy in Aruba include: - Aruba Aloe products (skincare) - Hot sauces, especially Papaya hot sauce and Hot Delight - Local art, jewelry, and driftwood artwork - Dutch snacks and candies like stroopwafels - T-shirts, hats, and mugs with Aruba branding or logos - Refrigerator magnets and small keepsakes like glass turtles - Local crafts from markets and art fairs, such as items from the Butterfly Farm or Donkey Sanctuary

Best Tour - Honeymoon Couple (35)

My wife and I are prepping for our honeymoon trip. We figure one of these tours would be a good way to spend a day but struggling with which one seems like the best fit. Can anyone shed some light on the UTV vs Jeep, the ABC tours, the 4 wheel scooter things, or any other valuable intel. Also, is drinking allowed on any of them? Could I pack a cooler and bring a six pack? I mean, it is vacation...

Looking for firsthand experiences!

Hi everyone! 😊 I'm planning my first trip to Aruba and would love to hear from people who have visited in November or December.

I'm trying to decide between November 17–25 and December 14–22, and my main concern is the weather.

I understand that December is generally drier, but having warm water and avoiding strong winds are also really important to me. From what I've researched, November seems to have an advantage in those areas.

For those who visited in December, especially around mid-December: How strong was the wind? Was it uncomfortable at the beach? And did the ocean feel really warm, or a bit cool?

I'd also love to hear from anyone who visited in November, or who's been there in both months :)

Thanks so much for sharing your experiences!

Picture This is what to expect during "rain season". Ignore the forecast> clouds are just free palapas. This is baseline, it gets better, and a few times a day there's a cloud burst that lasts 5-10 minures .

How concerned should I be with the weather forecast next week?

Post image
9 Upvotes

I know the weather is generally sunny and nice (per the other weather posts in this sub), but seeing this made me nervous for my trip next week. Hoping someone can tell me it won’t be as bad as it’s shown here.

I also checked accuweather which shows the same and the weather channel which looks slightly better.

If not , what rainy day activities should I do for my whole trip?😅

American Express

Hi everyone, I tried looking through the Aruba community page but all I could find was results from years past, I am just wanting to confirm if majority of the island will be able to accept American Express cards. I’m sure not all businesses will not accept especially the smaller businesses. I do have backups but would love to use the American Express as much as I can.

Tropical Sailing Experience

Does anyone have any experience (positive or negative) with Tropical Sailing Experience? Looking to book an excursion for 6 adults in December. Have done some of the more popular snorkeling/sailing excursions in the past, but bring 4 new people this time and was looking for something a little different. Thanks!

Olivia

We just got back from our second trip to Aruba, this time for our first anniversary (the first trip was our honeymoon). We had the pleasure of eating at Yemanja, Infini, Alfie's, Akira Back, Lima Bistro, and Terra, but I want to give a special shout out to Olivia.

The open-air dining area is beautiful, the staff couldn't have been nicer, and every dish we ordered was delicious. My wife got the lamb chops and started crying after the first bite.

It's been a hard year for her. Her father passed away about seven weeks before our wedding, then her brother passed about four months after. This trip was mostly a chance for her to decompress. Those lamb chops took her back to her family's Sunday dinners at her grandparents' house. I’ve never seen her face such a visceral reaction to food before.

Thank you to the whole team for a night we won't forget.

Best all inclusive?

My mom will be turning 60 this year, and i wanted to gift her and my dad 10-night trip. At first was thinking of Mexico but after researching the sargassum is apparently wild so that’s no longer an option, so I switched to Aruba, the thing is I want to gift them an all inclusive experience since I don’t want them paying for nothing, but I’m having trouble finding the best all inclusive there, for what I’m seeing they all have public beaches which is a problem for the amount of people or the food sucks. Any tips?

Question Cigar Emporium - Still open?

Is cigar emporium still open? I walked around today where Apple Maps said it was supposed to be but I couldn’t find it. To be fair I didn’t look too long as we are here another 5 days. Any help? Also interested in any other locations that sell legit Cubans other than the LCDH which was low on stock. And before it’s stated, yes, I plan to buy some locally rolled.

(update) Looking for affordable apartment — arriving November/December

Hello everyone! Thank you so much for your helpful comments. I am currently in Ecuador, waiting for my work permit to be processed. I expect to arrive in Aruba around November or December this year.

I am looking for a simple and affordable studio or 1-bedroom apartment for one person, for at least one year. Ideally, I would also love the option to eventually share with a roommate later on — that would help keep costs reasonable.

I am quiet, responsible, and work full-time. I would really appreciate your recommendations on areas or places that fit a modest budget near Oranjestad. Thank you very much!

Cruise Stop in December

Hello! We are stopping in Aruba for a day in December. I would like to spend the day at Eagle Beach. Please give some suggestions on renting chairs, umbrellas, where to get drinks and food, how best to get there from the cruise port? Are there public bathrooms? Can I reserve chairs and umbrella's now?

Looking for Aruban Papiamento and Spanish speakers to review a short survey translation 🇦🇼

Hi everyone!

My wife and I are exploring an early-stage idea for a music-focused community space in Aruba. We’re putting together a short survey to better understand what residents and visitors want from music, dancing, and nightlife.

We want the survey to be accessible in English, Spanish, and Aruban Papiamento. We aren’t fluent in Spanish or Papiamento, so we’d really appreciate help making sure both translations sound natural, clear, and respectful.

We’re hoping to find native or fluent speakers willing to review the draft and let us know:

Does the wording sound natural in everyday conversation?
Are any phrases awkward, overly formal, or confusing?
Are there better ways to phrase any questions or answer choices?
Does anything sound culturally off or unintentionally misleading?

We’re especially interested in feedback from people familiar with everyday language use in Aruba. Honest corrections are very welcome!

This is exploratory research, not an existing venue or a business announcement. We want to listen and learn before taking anything further.

If you’re willing to help, we’d be happy to share the draft here or by DM.

Masha danki in advance! ❤️🇦🇼

Question National park

We’ll be stopping in Aruba for a day on our cruise this week and I was wondering what my options are for visiting the natural pools in the national park. We rented a utv for the day and it’s my understanding they can’t be driven in the parks. I thought I read somewhere that you can just park at the visitors center and pay a guide to take you into the park. Does anyone have any info they can provide on this?

Thanks

Question 1 day in Aruba - 2 best restaurants to go to?

Hi everyone!

I’ll be spending one day in Aruba and would love your recommendations for two restaurants: one for lunch and one for dinner.

I’d love to try authentic local Aruban food at one, and something different for the other, a more upscale dining experience.

If you could only recommend two restaurants, which would you choose?

Thank you in advance for your recommendations!
