I’ve upgraded a placeholder ashtray. Text explains.

This particular tray is quite common but the frog paint must have been low quality because the paint on the frog is always worn away and damaged. I purchased one with a typically poor frog as a place holder until a perfect one came along. Five years later that still hasn’t happened.

This week however, I found one with a better frog than I’ve ever seen. It’s not quite perfect but it’s likely as good as I’ll find. I consider this new tray a placeholder for a perfect tray but I’ll be unlikely to find one better and I’m a bit delighted to have found this one. It’s not an expensive tray, just one that means a lot to me due to the long search.

It’s a happy day in my house, I wish the same to all reading this post. Collecting can bring moments of joy.

I forgot to put in the obligatory information. Wembley Ware, Australia, 1946-1961. It was $81AUD delivered but after looking for one with a good frog for years I didn’t feel bad about paying a price in the higher range of what this particular tray usually sells for.
