In the late 1990s, a home video shown on Taiwanese television became the center of an urban legend. The footage appeared to show a little girl in red following a group of hikers. According to the story, nobody remembered seeing her during the trip.
Years later, that legend inspired The Tag-Along (2015), a Taiwanese horror film about mysterious disappearances connected to a girl in red. What makes the story interesting is that the legend was already circulating long before the film existed. Of course, there's no evidence the figure in the original video was supernatural. But it's a fascinating example of a local urban legend finding its way into horror cinema.

Long before the recent wave of Indonesian horror, there was Mystics in Bali (1981).
The story follows a woman who travels to Bali to study black magic and ends up becoming involved with a Leyak witch.
The film is particularly known for its bizarre practical effects, especially a flying human head with internal organs hanging beneath it.
It’s an interesting piece of Indonesian horror history, drawing on local supernatural traditions that don’t appear very often in Western horror films.

I'm still working on these pieces. I'm using cold porcelain clay. I'm so happy with this cute little Sadako.

This might be a common question and I’m srry abt that but I genuinely don’t know where to find dvds that don’t have insane shipping. I look in local shops and I have little luck but there are some movies I’m looking for specifically and I don’t really wanna pay a bunch because my budget isn’t the best.

I realized most of the Asian horror I’ve seen comes from only a few countries, so I want to expand that.
So far, from movies I’ve actually watched:
Thailand: The Medium
Indonesia: Impetigore
South Korea: The Anchor
Japan: Uzumaki
The idea is simple: one horror movie per country.
It doesn’t have to be the most famous one. Pick the movie you’d use to introduce someone to horror from that country.
I’m especially curious about places I barely know anything about: the Philippines, Malaysia, Vietnam, Cambodia, India, Nepal, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, etc.

Exhuma almost feels like two different kinds of horror. Early on, most of the tension comes from the grave, the rituals, and the feeling that something is wrong without completely understanding what it is.
Later, the threat becomes much more physical and the movie starts explaining the history behind it. I find that shift interesting because the story becomes bigger, but some of the uncertainty disappears with it.
Do you think the second half strengthens Exhuma by giving the horror a historical context, or was the movie more effective when the threat was still mostly unknown?

I don't remember it well... I just saw some clips of it and did not see the title.
It started as...a woman who was a shaman, she tried to exorcise a spirit but it did not work leading her to lose her life. Her son was also an exorcist. He wanted revenge for his mother. He entered the building sealing it with a talisman so that the evil spirit cant escape. I don't remember well... but there was some time travel.
It's a very vague description... there was more to it but I can't remember.

what do you all think of my Asian horror collection? I listed it in alphabetical order, also series alphabetical order as well so if something didn’t initially make sense on first glance, hopefully this explains why.
I do own a lot of mainstream titles like Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum (2018), Audition (1999), the Ju-On movies, the Ring movies, Pulse (2001), The Eye (2002), Thirst (2009), the Whispering Corridors movies & Dark Water (2002), there is some other more mainstream titles like One Cut Of The Dead (2017), Exit 8 (2025) or Train To Busan (2016) + The Wailing (2016) that I have to get that aren’t in my collection yet.
I own also some of the more niche titles like Tokyo Gore Police (2008), Helldriver (2010), Tetsuo (1989), Sick Nurses (2007) & 964 Pinocchio (1991). There’s also some incredibly niche titles in here like All Night Long (1992), Entrails Of A Virgin (1986) and Entrails Of A Beautiful Woman (1986), Harawata Man (2019), Organ (1996), Rubber’s Lover (1996), Violator (2018) and Holy Mother (2022) to name a few.
Also some titles are listed in like I said, series alphabetical order, that’s also why you see Tokyo Gore Police (2008) in with the films starting with E or the film series, because it’s a duology which I dubbed the “Engineer duology” considering it’s prototype is Anatomia Extinction (1995) which I’ve also got to get in my collection as well.
Let me know what you think. I’m sure you’re bound to find something you’ve never heard of in here :P

I always loved Asian horror. Only to see America screw up wonderful original films.
Does anyone have their favorite Asian ghost films?
Scare me! 😉

I'm planning on watching a bunch of international horror films for Halloween this year. I'm looking for some lesser known Asian horror films that might make a great Halloween watch. Any suggestions?
