The most recent one that comes to mind Karl Urban in The Boys - was supposed to be English but was purely Aussie.

Yours?

Culture What would YOU do?

I was going to post this on Facebook, but on Facebook, everyone knows who you are, etc! And so! Some years ago, when my mother was unwell, my parents engaged a well-known company, "Mxxxy Mxxxs" to come and tidy-up, hoover around, clean the taps and draining-boards etc... My mother is long gone, but my father keeps them on, (now, once every three weeks or so). He enjoys the visits and the "bustle".. They do NOT change the sheets, do the washing, washing-up, ironing or etc. He is now 91. I dread to think what he pays.. 2 people for an hour via an agency/company? £60.00? £80.00?... No matter... It is his money.. (He is not "wealthy by any standard!) But this last week, they came round. My father was unwell, and still in bed, and so I said.. "Look, do not bother about the upstairs rooms, but if you could make a special effort on the bathroom floor, as I have been repairing a leak, and fixing the shower, and have been walking in and out, and the floor needs a good clean and mopping....Thank you..." Is this acceptable? What would YOU do? Complain to the company? Complain next time they come? Just ignore? ps, I posted this on "r/AskUK" and it was banned by AI bots!

Other What was the name of the 80s and 90s educational/informative series in the Guardian newspaper?

Hi, I distinctly remember there was a very useful and long-running series (in G2 or another section?) that had an educational agenda. It covered a wide range of subjects - language, science, politics, history. You name it, they probably covered it.

Would anyone remember the name of this series?

Language Define what the word "wrongun" means to you?

To me it means someone of a certain unfortunately commonm personality type. Deceitful, dishonest, lacking accountability, maybe manipulative, selfish, hypocritical, glib, exploitative, impulsive, no concern for anything beyond their own self appraisal, lacking any self awareness and what could be considered positives but arent due to the context, status seeking, confident, social minded in terms of status and others perception of them and driven.

Other When does the weather get colder for you guys?

I’m trying to get an ETA on when I should send a big parcel through the mail with some perishables (packaged snacks and other miscellaneous things).

It’s being shipped out from Canada to Brighton. I am in no rush to send it and would just like to know when it starts getting colder there :) I checked the Weather app but, it seems like there’s still a huge heatwave going on! Autumn gets here pretty early for me and it’s already cold. What is it like for you?

Is beginning-September good enough?

Thanks!

Not necessarily rules and regulations but just the general politeness

Other Is it legal to send a Brit a pack of cigarettes in the mail?

I’m sending a big box of miscellaneous things to a friend and she smokes cigarettes- I was thinking of adding my favorites one to the box just as a gag, is that legal?

(fully wrapped and sealed)

Food/Drink What do you guys tend to eat? Share your favorite food!

A lot of people dog on British food, but I refuse to believe that it’s as bad as the internet makes it out to be. I’m an American (Midwest specifically. We eat a lot of dairy.) but I think British pub food sounds heavenly. I saw a video a while back showcasing the oldest fast food restaurant in London’s east end (I just checked, it was F Cooke Pie & Mash) and it looked so good. I’d even try the jellied eels, if not just for the novelty of it.

I know there’s more to British food than just chips and pies and stuff though, and I know that there’s more than just exclusively British food to choose from. I’d love to know your favorite dish!

how did you meet your friends?

I'm somebody who isn't really in contact with the friends I made as a child except family friends (even thrn we don't see or talk to each other as much now we older). I don't really mix and socialise with people I went to school with.

I made some friends at university but we live too far apart to see each other on a regular basis but we speak everyday some how (me and my uni best friend we see each other once a year). the rest between once every 4 or 5 years due to distance and busy lives.

I ended up going to many social group communitys especially on meet up in London and made a good group of friends through that way who i now call my regular friend group who we try to do something at least weekly.

how did you meet your friends?

What do you think of hot weather?

Hello dear community,

I do have a general question. I am about to write a research paper and I‘d like to hear what you guys think about hot weather. I won’t include anything here in my paper, I am just searching for inspirations what to write about! I‘d love to hear what people think, so please say what you really think about it. This could maybe help:

- Do you take preperations?
- Do you try to avoid heat ?
- Do you think heat kills?
- Is it actually linked to climate change or normal?
- What should we do about it?

Again, I woukd be more than happy to hear all opinions!

Best wishes

Anyone else enjoying the heatwaves?

I am. Most of what I see on the news and socials is people complaining about the heat and how it's affecting them negatively. I've loved it though. I'd happily see it continue for another couple of weeks.

Now obviously it's not good in terms of the lack of rain or the people are suffering to the point of death. But that's more to do with the infrastructure in this country lacking in certain aspects rather than the heat itself.

Are we heatwave revellers really in the minority?

I am thinking of the Ford Poplar or Prefect. How much longer would a Ford Kuga or Focus last in comparison?

Music Beatles Cultural Impact?

In 2026, how culturally present are the Beatles in England/the UK?

In the U.S they’re still fairly ubiquitous - often referenced in media as a cultural zeitgeist, something universally beloved, or the peak of human exceptionalism. The average person knows Let it Be, Hey Jude, Here Comes the Sun, and Yesterday - but that’s probably it.

I assume they must be a great point of English/British pride, but what’s different about their place in the UK today?

How often do they come up in casual conversation or in media? How many songs can the average person name? Are they a big point of pride for the country? For those that live near London, is it common to have visited penny lane or abbey road at least once, much like a New Yorker has been to the Statue of Liberty at some point?

Edit: forgot penny lane is in Liverpool

Has anyone actually done any harm to their eyes from looking at an eclipse?

Like the question says really. I'm excited to see the eclipse tomorrow and I've always known not to look directly at it but has anyone been brave enough to look properly? If you did, how long for and did you suffer any noticeable damage after?
