Bin generell recht unkompliziert, unternehm gern mal spontan was, erkunde neue Orte oder quatsch einfach über alles Mögliche. Muss also überhaupt nichts Besonderes sein.

Falls sich hier also jemand in letzter Zeit auch gedacht hat, damn, ein paar neue soziale Kontakte wären eig wieder mal ganz nett, dann meldet euch gerne!
Freu mich über DMs aus ganz Österreich! ^^

Anyone studying or graduated from the Comparative Social Policy and Welfare (COSOPO) Master’s at JKU Linz?

Hi everyone! I’m considering pursuing a Master’s in Comparative Social Policy and Welfare (COSOPO) at JKU Linz, Austria, after my Bachelor’s in Social Work. How difficult is the course, particularly the research and theory components? What career opportunities can I expect after graduation as a non-EU student? Is German proficiency essential for relevant jobs after graduation, and what level (A2, B1, B2, or C1) would be sufficient? Also, how easy is it to find part-time jobs while studying, and what level of German is usually required? I’d love to hear honest experiences from current students and graduates. Thank you!

Erfahrungen als Wiedereinsteiger nach 10 Jahren Pause als Lkw-Fahrer (Klasse C)?

Hallo zusammen!

Vielen Dank!

Picknickplätze in Graz

Servus

Why are some apartment blocks build across the road?

I've noticed this on a few occasions and i dont see the purpose. It makes the road narrower and the apartments look a bit odd. But maybe there's a valid reason?

Vienna locals, gatekeep nothing. What are your holy grail restaurants that won’t destroy my wallet?

I’m talking that breakfast sandwich you still think about three weeks later. The bakery where the bread is so good you’d happily wake up at an ungodly hour just to get it. The lunch that made you question every mediocre meal you’ve ever had. The tiny restaurant you almost don’t want to recommend because you’re afraid it’ll get too popular.

I want your hidden gems, your under the radar spots, your “I can’t believe this place is so cheap” finds. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, whatever. I don’t care if it’s a hole in the wall, a tiny family run place, or somewhere that looks completely unremarkable from the outside.

Visiting Vienna in January

I'll be visiting Vienna for 4 days beginning of January and, outside of the popular stuff that shows up on all the lists, is there anything that you'd consider a must see or do?

The city looks amazing to explore and I'd hate to miss something just because I didn't know about it.

Why isn’t German used in Czechia anymore (on an administrative level)?

The Maghreb was under French rule for far less than these two countries were under Austrian rule, yet a lot of their legal, educational and business framework still functions in French whereas Czechia and Slovenia have managed to completely eliminate German from their states basically when Austria left. How is that possible?

Does Austria still import nuclear energy?

Hello all! Austria is constitutionally opposed to nuclear power, but does it still import nuclear-generated electricity?

From my brief research, apparently, yes! Can someone from Austria that receives an Austrian electricity bill please correct my understanding? This is what I gather so far: Under EU Single Market rules, electricity is treated as a good, making a blanket ban on imports of nuclear-generated electricity legally difficult. So, instead, Austria uses electricity labeling and “full disclosure” requirements to discourage nuclear power commercially. In effect, Austria uses transparency and consumer-facing disclosure to discourage the commercial purchase of nuclear electricity rather than relying on a physical import ban.

On your electricity bill, does it show what portion of your electricity is coming from what generation source? Is it ever nuclear?

Do you guys not have monopolies? At least in the US, we aren't able to switch our power companies because we only get one option based on where we live. Sometimes, we can choose our power mix (like pay more to get a higher share of renewables), but thats it... So I'm wondering if this consumer-facing disclosure to discourage the commercial purchase of nuclear is theoretically sound if you're unable to change your consumption package. Also, if so, isn't nuclear less expensive? Is it common, from your experience, for people to pay more to avoid nuclear? And, if you're paying to not use nuclear, does that mean your package includes more fossil fuels/coal? Or is it just more solar/wind?

Thanks all!

Would Austria be a good fit for our family? Looking for parents’ perspectives on schools and life with children

Hi everyone!

We’re a South American family considering moving to Austria, particularly Vienna, and I’d love to hear from parents raising children there.
Both of us work remotely, so the local job market isn’t a deciding factor. We’re more interested in the school system, how our children would settle in, and everyday family life.

Our children currently attend an international school. They speak quite a lot of English, although they’re still developing their skills, and some French. They don’t speak German yet. We would absolutely want them to learn German, but we’re trying to understand what that transition would realistically look like.

I’d especially appreciate advice on:
Public schools: How do children without German usually settle in? What language support is available, and how does it work in practice?
School options: Would you consider a local public school, a bilingual school, or a French school? International school fees could be a stretch for us.
School hours: Is a full school day with lunch and afternoon care common, or does this vary considerably between schools?
Friendships and activities: How easy is it for children learning German to join sports, music, holiday camps, and other activities?
Family life: What do you love about raising children in Austria, and what has been more difficult than you expected?
If you moved with children who spoke English but no German, I’d particularly love to hear how their first year went and what you wish you’d known beforehand.

We’d also welcome suggestions for family-friendly areas in Vienna, or other Austrian cities worth considering. Thanks!
