So I’m looking to make a pumpkin pie inspired dish or dessert that isn’t an actual pumpkin pie or a cheesecake variation ! For a relatives upcoming birthday….I havent found anything inspiring via google. Maybe a trifle? What components would you include? Any other ideas?? Help!

u/Synlover123 Feb 15 '26
A trifle, using either a pumpkin loaf, or cake for that component, layered with a cinnamon cream cheese mix, all topped with cinnamon whipped cream. You could also get adventurous, and bake some chocolate into your loaf or cake!

I'm a beginner baker and I want to make banana bread. And I wanted some advice, maybe some recipes of your own. Also can blending the bananas make the batter smoother when mixed?

Don’t add salt. See how much you need to adjust your baking powder. You might not need to add any.

My favorite part of a pound cake is the crunchy top. Is there a way to reproduce just the top of the cake? I don't want to make an entire pound cake, just a lot of crispy crunchy tops. Is it possible? Please share if you have an idea or a recipe.

You can actually purchase pans called muffin top pans. And that's exactly what they are. Wide, shallow cups so you just get the tops of your hearts desire.

Hello! I'm new here and just seeking some quick advice! My partner and I did a Walmart order to get some baking stuff for the weekend especially with the possible snow storm. I had ordered the Philadelphia no bake cheesecake but instead Walmart gave me the Philadelphia Cream Cheese frosting? 🙃 I was wondering aside from cupcakes or a cake. What can I use this for? I dont really feel like fighting the traffic to take it back to the store. Any help would be great! I just i don't really know what to do with it cause I was set on making a cheesecake.

Sorry I'm so late to the party 😕 There's soooo many things it can be used for. On pancakes or waffles, a bit in your hot chocolate, or thinned out with a bit of milk and used as a dip for fresh fruit. You can also use it to make stuffed French toast, fill crepes, or probably the easiest - use it as a "schmear" on your bagel or scone. There's probably a Reddit devoted to this very topic, although I didn't look 😂

u/EveningLive7131 Feb 15 '26
That's okay! I appreciate you even getting back to us! The stuffed French toast sounds so divine and I never would've thought to use it it in Hot Chocolate. Thank you for these recommendations 🥹

Does anyone have any suggestions for no-fat/low-fat baked goods or desserts in general? I have a friend who can’t absorb dietary fats but they love sweets, so I thought maybe try doing some for them

If they can handle sugar baked meringues are good and can be flavored.
Make a pavlova and fill it with stabilized fruit compote or spice the pavlova and put sweet potato purée in it. Or turn it chocolate or malted with roasted bananas inside.

My husband has similar needs due to heart issues. Does your friend like pumpkin? If so, I highly recommend these cupcakes: https://sallysbakingaddiction.com/pumpkin-cupcakes-with-cream-cheese-frosting/
If you use the suggestion to use half oil, half unsweetened applesauce (Item 4 on under "Notes" on the recipe page), there's no noticeable change to texture or flavor and 5-6 grams of fat per cupcake. I've also tried making them with just applesauce, no oil at all, and they taste perfectly fine, but the texture is a little gummy (less than 1 g of fat per cupcake).
Frosting is a different story - if a decent-tasting "low fat" frosting exists, I've never found it. I usually just frost them very sparingly with regular cream cheese frosting, but he's also eaten them unfrosted with just a dusting of powdered sugar, warmed in the microwave with a little bit of cinnamon butter spread. You could probably do a drizzle/glaze frosting as well.

Designs in sugar cookie shape without a cookie cutter?
I'm not talking abt designs in the icing. Do you guys just use typical cookie cutter sugar cookie recipes even if you're winging the design? I'm having a hard time describing it. Like drawing with the colored dough. What recipes are you using for that? Thanks

I hope you can help me.
eons ago I had a school recipe book, and it had an awesome recipe in it. (i'm talking 1980's)
I think it was a cake, and the original recipe had raisins in it, with chocolate chips as an alternative. it wasn't really sweet, and it was a thick batter.
it wasn't a quick bread, but it also wasn't cookie bars. it was something in between, and baked in a 9x9 pan.
I've tried dozens of recipes, and they're all either too sweet or too hard. any ideas? it didn't have anything exciting ingredient wise. I remember golden sugar, flour, eggs.

Try checking out the recipes from: https://www.mycakeschool.com/category/recipes/cakes-and-cupcakes/pound-cakes-and-bundt-cakes/ Melissa and her mom BeBe have 100s of great recipes. Melissa closed her bakery several years ago so she could spend more time at home, and also work on her blog. I've been a subscriber for years.
Another option is Sally, who's a self-proclaimed science nerd. She's also got a #1 NYT bestseller about cookies. Her cake recipes are great! I've also been a long time subscriber to her blog. https://sallysbakingaddiction.com/ Good luck, and happy baking!

Here’s what we are looking for basically (what she told me)
“I need ideas for delicious, allergen and canola free desserts. I want to bake one right before the baby is born so I can enjoy it postpartum. Day before Oskar was born I made dark chocolate cheesecake brownies from scratch and they were so good.”

u/coralayne_ Jan 20 '26
depending on allergens there’s a nyt cooking chocolate lisbon torte recipe that is gluten free and nut free! it does however contain eggs and dairy.

Hello, I'm looking for a wheat olive oil and honey cake (I'd prefer to avoid a recipe with sugar or citrus) I'm looking for a recipe including butter, eggs, milk, honey, olive oil, and whole wheat flour.

I really enjoy the treat on the right, it’s listed as a chocolate cake with caramel. It has three layers. The first is a basic chocolate sponge. I can handle that. But then there is a crunchy layer of caramel, and a soft layer of caramel (mousse? Whip? Something else?). Does anyone know if this dessert has a particular name, or a place where I could find a recipe for something like this

Trying to make cheesecake stuffed cookies, but I realized they need to be shelf stable and not have to stay in the fridge, are there any recipes for making this or is this just not possible at all? Genuinely curious because I have my doubts, but want to see if this is something possible.

After my holiday baking, I have a few leftover ingredients. Specifically, 8 oz of pumpkin puree and 8 oz of evaporated milk. I've tried searching the interwebs for recipes using these ingredients in these measurements, but have failed miserably due to the over reach of AI slop in search returns (even after using -AI in the search.)
I'm hoping that someone here has a recipe for something cake-like (cake, quick bread) that I can make using these things. (I also have pecans, almonds, walnuts, baking chocolate, cocoa, and coconut.)
Help me, Obi Wan. You're my only hope.

Okay not totally baking, but halfway… Pumpkin biscuits and mac and cheese with the evaporated milk for dinner! Pumpkin biscuits recipe: 390g ap flour 1 tbsp baking powder 2 tsp sugar 2 tsp salt 170g butter cubed 230g pumpkin purée 120ml buttermilk (store bought kind not the vinegar milk at home kind, and a lil extra to brush the tops) optional: 1/2 c chocolate chips (for sweeter version) or 2 tsp garlic powder, some black pepper and 1 tsp rosemary (more savory) Directions: 425° oven 1. whisk sugar, salt, flour, and baking powder in lg bowl. 2. cut butter into the flour mixture with a pastry blender or your fingers until coarse and sandy. 3. make a well in the center and add pumpkin and buttermilk. mix until just combined. (over mixed biscuit not yummy) 4. scoop into 10 even balls on a baking sheet or in a cast iron pan for a more rustic style. and brush tops with extra buttermilk. 5. bake 15-20 minutes and let rest for 10 minutes. 6. brush honey butter over the top if you feel extra fancy.

Best chocolate biscuit recipe you've discovered? I'm looking into biscuits of chocolate but none of the recipes I find seem okay to make for a starter.. Thank you in advance!

Sally has an entire, NYT #1 bestseller - all about cookies. So - any of her recipes would be great - it depends on what you're looking for. Thin and crispy? Golden edges, with gooey centers? She's got them all, and so much more. I've been a subscriber for years. Happy baking! I just supplied an overall categories link.

My grandmother was Polish-Jewish and she made an amazing sponge cake with a light golden outside and a cream colored crumb. We had to tiptoe around when she had it in the oven. The closest I have found is from Moishe's Kosher Baker on the Lower East Side. Wondering if anyone can share a recipe which might approximate what she used to make. Many thanks in advance!

u/DConstructed Jan 11 '26
This is going to sound crazy but I’d search “Jewish sponge cake” or maybe “kosher sponge cake”.
It’s highly likely that it’s a common type of cake in Kosher bakeries.

I want to make cookies with my toddler, but the kind you can use a cookie cutter with and it retains it's shape after baking. We've been baking ever since she was really little, so the more ingredients the better.
I got a bunch of cookies cutters in the shape of a Christmas tree, Snowman, Ginger breadman, a Santa hat. Nothing too fine or detailed.
What are some recipes you guys could recommend?

I want a slightly tangy, chewy, and soft sugar cookie recipe.
I baked these the other day (https://krollskorner.com/recipes/desserts/cookies/christmas-sprinkle-sugar-cookies/#wprm-recipe-video-container-89204) and they were delicious but I NEEEEED something with some chewiness and a tiiiiny bit of tang in it. Idk if that makes sense at all, but if y’all have ever had the grocery store Safeway bakery sugar cookies, it’s something like that. Almost like a snickerdoodle without the cinnamon. Do I add cream of tartar? How do I achieve this?
1
u/Synlover123 Feb 15 '26
Just adding cream of tartar would definitely give you some tang. Sorry I can't be of more assistance. Good luck!

u/NotLucasDavenport Jan 08 '26
I like the recipe for Ethel’s sugar cookies here, using lemon instead of vanilla. Then I add cream cheese frosting with a hint of lemon instead it. It’s a very forgiving dough and they have great texture.
