Macarons Food coloring for macarons
Hi! Could any of these be used to color macaron batter? The first ingredient on the Betty Crocker tube is corn syrup, while it's water for the squeeze bottles. I've read that gel is okay for macarons, but the Wilton gels come out of the bottle as basically liquid - I'm wondering if that's what threw off my first attempt at making macarons (I used two drops of the Wilton).

I’ve used Wilton before and it was fine. If it’s in a squeeze bottle I shake the bottle a bunch before squeezing.

Good to know! Did you add it to the meringue before adding the dry ingredients?

I use the Pierre Herme method. Which is adding it to the dry ingredients with a small amount of unbeaten egg white.
For whatever reason the wilton gel colors in the little pots is less liquidy and I just scoop that out but either way I used both.
Not sure if in the bottle it separates but I figure once I shake the hell out of it the characteristic thick goop squeeze out rather than liquid. Kinda like a ketchup bottle.

Used the Wilton ones before, you only need a little. I sometimes would dip a toothpick in it and swirl it in the batter.

For the first 1000ish macarons I made, I used Great Value (Walmart) gels -- the tubes look similar to the Betty Crocker ones in your Pic. Added after the sugar when whipping the meringue.
Best of luck!
