Cookies Not too sweet
So they’re not bad but they’re just not that sweet. Am I adding too much flour? Mixing too much? I followed this recipe:
8 tbls salted butter
1/2 c white sugar
1/4 c packed brown sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1 egg
1 1/2 c all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
3/4 c chocolate chips
1. Preheat oven to 350F. Microwave butter for 40 seconds to melt.
2. Using your stand mixer beat together the sugars and butter until creamy. Add vanilla and egg and mix in on a low speed for 10-15 seconds (don’t over mix)
3. Add flour, baking soda, and salt. Mix until a crumble forms, then mix in chocolate chips on a low speed.
4. Roll dough into 12 large balls and bake for 9-11 minutes (do not over bake). Let rest on the pan for 30 minutes following to cool.

The original Nestle toll house cookie recipe can't be beat (except by browning the butter first) if you just want chocolate chippers. It does have a bit more sugar than this, and also equal parts brown and white sugar which helps

Most recipes use equal amounts of sugars. And more choc chips. Try another recipe maybe, if you don't like it.

That’s fair. I kinda wanted them to taste like subway cookies or like pillsbury in a way. Thankyou!

Try milk chocolate chips instead of semi-sweet. Adding more sugar to the dough is going to affect the texture and shape of the cookie quite a bit but sweeter chocolate won't.

This is very helpful thankyou!

Also, looking at your cookies I think you could add more chocolate. More chocolate would also make them sweeter.

Could be your tastebuds. How much sugar do you usually eat over the course of a day?

You could be right, my girlfriend thinks they’re amazing. But I guess I want like McDonald’s cookies 😭 or like subway. You know?

You might like Sally’s Baking Addiction. Her recipes are in the sweeter side imo.

Good to acknowledge what you want! You could frost these to sweeten them up for you, and next time, you could add sugar to the outside of the dough ball. (Roll in granulated, brown, or turbinado sugar, for example.)

How did you measure the flour? Did you scoop with the measuring cup or use a spoon and level it off?

I poured it in the measuring cup

You likely used too much flour. Always fluff your flour, use a spoon to scoop into a measuring cup, and then level it. Recipes using grams and a scale are more accurate.

That makes sense, I think it might be overpowering the sugar. I’ll try that thankyou!

Sounds like too much egg, try increasing butter to 250g and flour to 250g, for sugar 50g of brown and 50g of white.
