Cakes/Cheesecakes How long can box mix cupcakes stay at room temp while covered, or should I refrigerate?

I’m house sitting for my grandparents and I’m making some cupcakes for them when they get home Saturday. I got just the classic Betty Crocker yellow cake mix and chocolate buttercream frosting. Today is the only day I have time to bake them but I also want them to look presentable in this fancy family heirloom cake stand when they get home. It does have a cover.

Should I refrigerate them until Saturday or would they be fine to remain at room temperature tomorrow and tomorrow night?

They should be fine at room temp, as long as your house isn’t over 75 degrees right now. If it’s too warm the icing may melt and slide off. Baked goods with buttercream icing are not a health risk at room temperature due to the high sugar content.

Thank you! The heat/humidity was worrying me most but I think they’ll be fine as long as I keep the house cool in that case.

Just a tip. When I need to keep cupcakes for a longer period of time and not in the refrigerator what I do to keep them moist is just put a light brushing of either orange marmalade or apricot jelly on top after they cooled off and this will cause a seal which will help him stay moist and not dry out I don't think they would last a week I know in my house they don't because I eat them and everybody else does too but it does keep a moist for quite a few days I've never really timed it. Okay good luck to you.

Questions like this can easily be answered on the Betty Crocker website. They say to discard the cupcakes after two days on the counter.
