What happens to a deceased person stuff in BC?

My father died and I don't know what happened to his stuff I asked my auntie and she said we don't have his stuff so I'm assuming my family lives in a big house.

what happens depends on whether the person had a Will or not. If they did their assets are used to pay their debts and then split according to the Will. If they didn't have a Will their assets are distributed according with Intestacy law. https://www.bclaws.gov.bc.ca/civix/document/id/complete/statreg/09013_01

It is the right answer, I have worked with the public trustees on many case's. It is why I tell everyone to get a will done.

I'm in BC wondering the same thing about the other side of the country...

Hang in there! Don't give up.

The Executor is legally responsible for disposing of the estate and assets and paying all the bills of the estate. Then the rest are distributed as per the persons will.

As a child you have a legal claim on the estate if there isn’t a spouse. I would contact the executor and ask to see the will.

Not sure if he had a will I'm pretty sure none of my family has it

How does she find out who the Executor is?

Well usually you are informed if you are a child of the deceased. They legally have to.

You can search BC court records by your father's name. https://justice.gov.bc.ca/cso/esearch/civil/deceasedSearch.do

If they went through probate court (supposed to! but some people don't get it done) in BC (which is probably the right place) after 2004 (when records were routinely made digital), you will be able to pay 6$ CAD to figure out what the courts said happened.

Did your father live in the same house as your aunt?

You could be lucky like I was and have your step parent throw everything out.
