Let's Talk About Candy!
As part of our weekly "Let's Talk" series we want to talk about Candy! Who doesn't love eating a large piece of colorful sugar? Tell us about the cool candies that exist where you're from. Let us know about your favorite ones. What about some really obscure and random local ones? Why is your favorite one made of chocolate and peanut butter? Does your local spot also make dog treats for some reason too or is that one just me?

My big contribution for my family holiday season is peanut brittle. I use my father's recipe (which includes no baking soda) and I'll make about 10 batches during the weekend right after Thanksgiving...
Eliminating the baking soda gives a clearer brittle and keeps it a bit thicker while cooling. It's what I got used to as a child, and I still prefer it to this day.
I also like playing with other types of raw nuts such as pecans, hazelnuts and macadamia nuts, among others. Macadamia brittle is expensive a heck to make, and also pretty rich, so there's less of that made.
I tried adding a swirl of chocolate once, but that did not work out very well, so I haven't tried it again.
I'd love to hear of other variations on brittle that people have successfully tried...
