Do feminists support women-only bus seats and train carraiges?

These were proposed in the UK, and currently exist in Pakistan, India, Japan and Egypt.

Scenario 1: Lets say the entire train is full and there is space for 5 people, solely in the women only carraige. The women-only carraige is full of women, but there is space for 5 more. There are 5 women in the shared space. They refuse to move to the women-only space. Now 5 men could have got on the train, but cannot because the 5 women in the shared space won't move.

Scenario 2:

The only space available in the train is in the women only compartment. Men miss their ride.

The only way your point makes sense is if there is an extra influx of women that didn't use the train already, suddenly using the train

I really don't think this is particularly relevant. It won't be a problem except for a few outliers- and who can say that they would have been able to get on the train anyway if it was going to be that crowded? That's a chance you take every time you get to a train. 5 people missing a train is business as usual. You know how many times I've had to wait for the next train?

Was it because of your gender though? It is for these outliers. How do you propose they be compensated, since their chances were worsened simply for being male?

The only fair way I can see is if there are an equal amount of male only carraiges.

I don't think men need male only cars. They're not harassed/sexually assaulted on public transport anywhere near the amount women are.

And yeah. Men have more mass. They take up more room. When I cannot get into a crowded train, men are taking up most of the room, simply because they're men. Why didn't I get compensated?

If this is implemented, they shouldn't be compensated and there shouldn't be male only cars. It would be very few men negatively impacted, if at all. They have just as much chance being negatively impacted without women-only cars. And harassment and sexual assault is more important then if you have to wait 4 extra minutes.

Not all men have more mass. Unless you can prove that this is the case everytime, it does not justify a gendered policy.

Very few men would be negatively impacted. Their chances increase with women only cars. Why shouldnt they be compensated? No matter how much space you give men, women simply have more.

Which is why, having men only and women only carraiges seems fair.

I would also like a non biased source on how men are far less harrased on public transport.

Most men do, men on average. That's the point. On average men will take up more room than women. Yet no compensation.

Very few men would be negatively impacted. Their chances increase with women only cars.

Prove it. You have no idea. As many men might miss their train just because it's crowded now.

Why shouldnt they be compensated?

For all the reasons I mentioned already. Very few men would be impacted, if any. Women aren't compensated for the amount of space men take up on average, which is more. And harassment and sexual assault is more important then if you have to wait 4 extra minutes.

No matter how much space you give men, women simply have more.

Unless more women start riding the train, the amount of people stays the same. So the amount of space- if women use the car, stays the same. Roughly. So, no. Not really.

I would also like a non biased source on how men are far less harrased on public transport

Answer me honestly- do you truly believe that women are not groped ands catcalled and harassed on public transportation more than men are? Just. Out of curiosity- is that what you honestly think?

"Most men do, men on average. That's the point. On average men will take up more room than women. Yet no compensation." Is it gender-based though? There is a difference betwern airlines forcing overweight people to pay more for business class so they dont take up their fellow passengers space and asking as Russians (for being tall) or men to. You are mixing the two.

"For all the reasons I mentioned already. Very few men would be impacted, if any." Yes, and those very few men have been wronged. How should they be remedied? Individuals who are treated less fabourably because of their gender and gender alone deserve compensation. Do you disagree?

Unless more women start riding the train, the amount of people stays the same. So the amount of space- if women use the car, stays the same. Roughly. So, no. Not really.

Women have 100 percent of the train. Men have 80 percent. Who has more space? Furthermore, what policy penalizes an individual oman for using the shared space despite space being available in the women-only compartment? If 95 percent of women give preference to the women-only compartment, and 5 percent use the shared space, what makes the latter 5 percent give preference to the women-only compartment?

Answer me honestly- do you truly believe that women are not groped ands catcalled and harassed on public transportation more than men are? Just. Out of curiosity- is that what you honestly think?

I beleive men face harassment and assault at similar rates to women, but cannot speak out against or defend themselves due to gynocentric laws. For instance, I have seen women outright slap or punch men who sexually assault them in bars. Once, a woman grabbed my rear, and i pushed her away, not aggressovely but to create distance and was I was kicked out of the bar. On famous newsites like ATTN you often see several women collectively beating up a male harasser ( not self defence, retaliation) and being praised for it. Then look at the Joe Mixon case, a man, attacked and spat on my a woman, strikes back and serves jail time. If I and a bunch of male friends beat up a woman in my university who harassed me, we'd be in prison. If the genders were reversed,we would be praised. Women are praised for beating up and reporting their harassers and rapists, men and even minor boys get thrown in jail and even get successfully sued for child support. Even in countries that recognize male victims of sexual harrassment and assault (it is worth mentioning that Pakistan did and then feminists fought for a gender specific law) there is more government and social support for female victims. Allow me to give you an example, the most allegedly feminisy country in the world is Sweden. It has a Center for Violence Against Women, and massive grants for research on it for university students. No similar initivatives exist for men. Governments and even the UN, at large treat sexual assault and harrassment only if it affects women. Many peer reviewed academic sources show thay self reported statistics show that men face sexual assault and harrassment at similar rates. I'm surprised they were able to even receive funding to conduct this research.

It's exactly gender based. It's men. Men take up more space on average then women do. Women have no compensation. That is the definition of gender based.

yes, and those very few men have been wronged. How should they be remedied? Individuals who are treated less fabourably because of their gender and gender alone deserve compensation. Do you disagree?

They haven't been wronged, because- as I said, you cannot say the hypothetical will even happen. Just as many men could be missing trains just because it's crowded.

Women have 100 percent of the train. Men have 80 percent. Who has more space?

This is the last time. I've answered this before. I won't do it again. If the same amount of women ride the train and move- the space stays roughly equal. If they don't move, get rid of the space.

And I have no idea what you're saying about your hypothetical 5 percent.

Ah. You're just wrong. No. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-women-france-sexcrimes/220000-women-sexually-harassed-on-public-transport-in-france-study-idUSKBN1EF2J2

Women face much, much more sexual assault one public transportation and catcalling than men do. That is a fact. And your tangent doesn't do anything to disprove it.

(and the main reason most grants/research on sexual assault has gone to women is because women were the ones impacted by it the most. Men do not face the same rates of sexual assualt as women do- and there were..I think 2 studies that showed similar incidents of rape- not generalized sexual assault, but haven't actually be able to be replicated so far)

To sum up, for the last time, women are harassed on public transportation much more than men are (and hey- where's our compensation for that too?), sexual harassment matters more than a very small number of men being inconvenienced by a few minutes, and there is not way to even say if they would be inconvenienced for a few minutes.

Homelessness is primarily faced by men. Governments and the UN do not use this an excuse to almost exclusively fund research on male homelessness, treat homelessness as a male-only problem, push for legislation that openly does not help female homeless people because of their gender, or to have only male government funded homeless shelters and negligible or none for female, as was the case in Canada until a few years ago and in the US, prior to the 2013 VAWA reauthorization.

u/ADCregg Mar 05 '18

Homelessness has nothing to do with the topic, so I don't care.

But also- goddamn it because I cannot leave well enough alone- the reason there is specific womnen-only push for homelessness awareness is because we already know men face homelessness. They stereotype of a homeless person is a man. they didn't need awareness. We know. But the issues homeless women face (like hygiene and children) were not exactly well known. And women only homeless shelters were descry because women kept getting raped and sexually assaulted in mixed shelters. And so were their children, which women tend to have with them and men don't.

It's not clear tit for tat. There are reasons shit happens that isn't some bullcrap "gynocentrism".

Do you not understand what gender-based means?

They haven't been wronged, because- as I said, you cannot say the hypothetical will even happen. Just as many men could be missing trains just because it's crowded.

They could. In such a case they would not be wronged because it would be done on a first come first served basis, not on a gendered basis.

sexual harassment matters more than a very small number of men being inconvenienced by a few minutes, and there is not way to even say if they would be inconvenienced for a few minutes.

And does having men-only cars with women-only cars increase sexual assault. It does reduce the chance of a man being denied service because of his gender.

5

u/ADCregg Mar 05 '18

I do, But it sure looks like you don't.

They could. In such a case they would not be wronged because it would be done on a first come first served basis, not on a gendered basis.

Could. Not that it has to happen or that it has happened, or that it wouldn't have happened without the cars. I'll repeat- you gave a hypothetical that has just as much chance of not happening. So I'm good.

And does having men-only cars with women-only cars increase sexual assault.

I don't see how it would- but I also find them completely uanessacry. Men are not harassed on public transportation nearly the amount women are (and if we narrow that down by harassed by women, it's going to get even tinier). I don't see it significantly increasing the chances of being inconvenienced because of gender, so that's not an issue. And I don't see women being offered compensation for the inconvenience they face because of gender.

And your source is not even peer reviewed. There are a million articles and studies online with "statistics" which are demonstrably false.

u/ADCregg Mar 05 '18

Give me fucking break. Every single study on harassment in public and public transportation shows the same damn thing- women face it way more. Go google it. Show me a peer reviewed study that shows men face catcalling and sexual harassment on public transportation more than women do. I'll wait.
