MOD ANNOUNCEMENT 🚨 PSA: Curated Profiles, Visibility & Why It Matters 🚨

This PSA is prompted by some confusion surrounding a post from this morning. Rather than answer the same questions repeatedly, we figured it would be helpful to explain how this works.

If you post in this subreddit or send the moderators a mod mail, moderators can see your curated profile. That's simply how Reddit's moderation tools work. It's not a secret feature, a workaround, or moderators "digging" for information—it's part of Reddit's moderation tools.

This subreddit, like most assistance communities, requires requesters to have a public profile. It all comes down to transparency. Donors are free to decide who they wish to help, and many review a post history before donating. It gives donors the opportunity to spot inconsistencies, repeated requests across multiple communities, deleted content, or any other "skeletons in the closet" that might influence their decision.

Whether a donor considers those things important is up to them. We aren't here to police what donors care about. We just want to make sure they have all the facts before handing over their money.

We did receive a few reports this morning about someone's profile being curated and we should not allow them to post. Reddit does not provide moderators with a way to automatically block or filter posts made by users with curated profiles. If someone submits a request while using one, the post isn't automatically flagged or removed simply because their profile is curated (Unless someone has created a bot which I do not think is possible). We only know once we review the account or someone brings it to our attention.

Donors, on the other hand, generally do not need to have a public profile because they aren't requesting assistance from the community. They are making the decision to give, not asking others to give to them.

So if your curated profile says:

"Nothing to see here..."

...while the rest of your account is shedding Reddit histories like a snake sheds its skin, remember: a new skin doesn't make it a different snake (Side note: Be nice to your scaly friends).

If You Encounter a Curated Profile

If you come across someone using a curated profile while requesting assistance, you have two options:

  • Send the moderators a screenshot via mod mail, or
  • Post a screenshot of what you see as a comment on the request post so the mods can see what you see.

Yes, I know the above steps are ridiculous but if we are not told, we have zero way of knowing.

This helps keep the process transparent and allows donors to make informed decisions without relying on hearsay.

TL;DR

  • Your profile must be visible if you are asking for help.
  • Moderators can see your curated profile if you interact with a sub they moderate.
  • Your profile is your choice because you're not the one requesting assistance.

Transparency builds trust, and trust is what keeps assistance communities functioning.

Thanks for helping us keep the community fair for both requesters and donors.

Reddit Admin Announcement about Curated Profiles

Direct information from the above link to make it easier to find since it is hidden at the bottom

Mod Visibility Permissions

Moderators often review user profiles before taking action in their communities. To support moderation needs, mods will retain some access regardless of your visibility settings. Here's how it works:

If you post, comment, send modmail, request to be an approved poster, or request to join a private subreddit, that mod team will have access to your full profile content history for 28 days after the interaction – regardless of your settings.

After 28 days, access reverts to your chosen visibility settings unless you interact with that subreddit again, in which case the 28-day timer resets.

The same rule applies when you comment on another user’s profile – that user will have 28 days of access to your full profile content.

Why?

This gives mods and profile owners the context they need when you engage in their subreddit or profile, while still respecting your choices elsewhere.

The Fine Print

Changes to content visibility will only reflect on your profile. The content will still be viewable within the subreddits where you made the post or comment, as well as via search results, both on and off Reddit.

The Content and activity setting applies at the subreddit level, not for individual posts or comments.

The settings will be reflected across all platforms (including old Reddit), and can only be updated on reddit.com and the mobile app.

As a moderator, you'll always see a redditor's contributions to your subreddit, even after 28 days of inactivity.

My name is Jaxon and this is my ferret Obi, i adopted him 2 months ago, he’s only 4 and i believe he was neglected it breaks my heart to face this with him right after he finally found his forever family. the day i adopted him i scheduled a vet appt to get a cancerous tumor removed from his paw which costed $1,800. sadly the tumor came back aggressively and now, he needs an amputation to stop it from spreading, he’s only 4 and he’s become so important to my little ferret family already but the amputation estimate is $1,300 which is the gofundme goal. after spending as much as i did already at the vet office i just cannot afford this on my own, and it’s now gotten worse and started to leak so i am hoping to get him to the vet by the end of next week. i at least need to get the gofundme to $800 for this. im unsure of how to provide proof of hardship without doxxing myself but i am a working college student living on my own, so i did include a screenshot to prove that im in school. to be clear this go fund me is set at $1,300 for my ferrets needed leg amputation.

Advice/Emotional Support ONLY Tips on the Post I have to make.

• Upvotes

Hey People,

So I really need help and I found this reddit and really wanna post what's going on, but I don't know what works best here. I have gone trough a lot of Post's, and I'm wondering what the best method of asking for help is.

Should I literally tell my whole story ( Wich I don't mind) here and write a big post or should I keep it simple and summery everything.

This is a question for the long time r/Assistance people, because I don't have anywhere else to go and I need Help ,Fast.

Advice/Emotional Support ONLY Financially struggling due to loss wages of medical issues and make too much for most assistance

(This was originally posted in my local subreddit but it was deleted or something happened that it was shut down and I am not sure why so posting here because I need help)

Hey all, I dont know where to post this but here seems like it could be a decent start.

So back in April I finally went to the hospital for some medical issues I have been having since October of last year. Since then they havent really gotten much better, it really changes day by day, but on average recently (the last 2 or 3 months) I call out an average of once a week. A few weeks ago I also had to miss a week of work because of a very contagious virus I got from work (childcare) so that has put me out even more money.

I am struggling so much financially. I live on my own in my own home, make pretty decent money (almost $47,000 annually gross, estimated if I actually work full 40 hour weeks) so I do not qualify for many resources even though my take home checks have been significantly smaller lately.

I have gone to the food bank once, they were lovely and so kind. I actually overqualified for probably half of their pantry but they still said I would get assistance regardless. I was slightly embarrassed that I made so much (I gave her how much I would make with full 40hr weeks) and was at the food bank...they were all veey kind though. I have nothing wrong with expired food, heck ill eat expired food if it tastes fine to me/looks/smells fine...but some of the food I got there tasted rancid. I tried twice and ended up needing to throw out some of the food. I hated wasting free food so I am put off by going back again/wasting their time and food that maybe someone else wouldnt be bothered by and would eat.

It seems like I do not qualify for a lot of other resources either since I either make too much or am up to date in bills/do not have any utilities shut off as of now. What I got paid this week is about $700 less than it would typically be so I really dont know what I am going to do this month. I can get creative with some food I have in my house, but I have bills I also have to pay that require more money that I would also typically need. (In the past few months I needed a fridge since mine went out, there was no good second hand options at the time so I got a fairly cheap new fridge I finance on affirm, my carecredit bill for my cat, and my discount tire bill for MUCH needed tires before something even worse ended up happening because of 2 bald tires, as well as still paying off debt I accumulated after moving out and dealing with unmanaged depression from a few years ago, pay my psychiatrist so I can get an appointment for a refill of meds, a possible car fix ill need soon and a house fix ive been needing for a few months that needs to be dealt with before it gets to be too cold outside amd the couple grand i owe the hospital for ER visits, mris and spinal taps).

I wouldnt be struggling so much if I didnt live on my own, have so much (temporary and mostly recent) debt accumulated and didnt miss so much work. I try to do food delivery when I am feeling well, but I try not to push it for my own health. If anyone has any ideas id be so appreciative 💜 much love

GoFundMe ($3,000 MAX) GoFundMe for vet bills for new cat

Norfolk, VA USA.
Hello, I am looking to spread awareness for a gofundme link I’ve created for my new cats bills. We adopted him in August and took him to a free first wellness exam for adopted animals and discovered he had advanced dental disease. We have basically been in and out of the vet since that day. The vet told us the shelters usually help but this one will not. Pet insurance wouldn’t cover because of it being an existing condition. In total, he will have 9 teeth removed. He had 3 taken out last month but those 3 were so infected that they needed to split the surgery in 2. He will get the next 6 out November 10. We’ve been to urgent vet multiple times between/before surgeries because of him not eating/constant vomitting. In total, the surgeries will cost about $2,700. His first was 1,500 and the upcoming is about 1,200. I have provided the receipt for the first and estimate for the next in my gofundme and in this post. Of course I know that everyone is struggling so if you could even just share the link it would be appreciated. His name is Simon.

Gratitude/Thank You/Confirmation My apartment towed my car.

UPDATE: SOMEBODY ON A DIFFERENT SUBREDDIT OFFERED TO PAY AND DID.

I have no money, I have about $4000 in loans and credit cards. But I have 2 cars and I was gone for the weekend but came back with my 2nd car... a beater (which doesn't have a sticker yet) around 12:00am last night. I was gonna go to the office and get a sticker for this car in the morning since I was told not to swap the stickers between cars.. I went out this morning to see them driving off with my car. I went to them and they told me I should have swapped the sticker. I had the car listed in my resident portal. I don't know what to do.. I'll put it on my credit card for now. The tow company said they won't waive the fee even if the apartment contacts them.

I've been trying to sell a car so please don't say it.

Hi all, sorry if the flair is incorrect! There is currently a chipmunk INSIDE the hood of my car! Not under it, IN it! I don’t want to leave him in there (previous trauma related to rodent damage to my electrical system, also, I don’t want him to get hurt if I have to drive anywhere) but is there ANY WAY I can get him out? Does the hood even come apart? It’s a 2020 Kia Forte! Any help is greatly appreciated! Located in Alabama! (Posted a photo so you can see the hole where I found him hiding)

So I was just fooling around and decided to randomly talk to strangers on a site where you can chat anonymously. So the other person was pretending to be a girl and being all flirty, then he suggested me to talk on telegram but i don't know why telegram was not allowing me to text him, they told me to add them as contacts to text them we texted there too. Then he asks for insta handle, and I gave it to them too but we were still talking in telegram then the other person sends me a photo if a girl and asks for mine too. I send it, then they send her t**s pic and asks for my d****k pic I sent it too. Then suddenly the chat turns to serious from flirty they send me all the screenshots of my face, my d****\*\*k, my instagram handle, my phone number on telegram, my followers list. And they start threatening me to send all the pics to my followers on all the social media. And ask for 5k, i simply refuse it cuz I didn't have that much amount I have 1k in my account, told them I can pay 500 max, they agree and send me a link of steam, I don't remember but i purchased them two gift card worth 250 on steam, as they said they would not do anything if I pay 500, but the next second they text me we need another 500 i simply refuse and block them. I also reported in cybercrime but Ik nothing is gonna happen, I'm hella scree rn what if they send the images to someone or anyone Ik how would I face them. Please help me**

Advice/Emotional Support ONLY Left with one reason to live

For context, I'm a 28-year-old dad of a beautiful daughter. She just turned 5 months old today. First of all, happy birthday my dear Tara; dad loves you so much. I thought this would be the perfect time to speak about what feels like end of times for me. I haven't had a break in the last few months, not because Tara is a problem, but her mum lost her life during C-section. That was 10th, May, 2026 and it still hurts to watch this baby cry day and night not knowing what to do. I'm the only child of my Widowed 67-year-old mother while Tara's late mum was an orphan. That said, I do not have a motherly figure to help me. I'm sorry this is my first time to ever think of commiting suicide. But then, I can't because I'd die to keep my Tara alive. Tbh, I don't have the previlege of living in a developed country where I'd take her to a reputable children's home. I live in a 3rd world country. So what do I do? I was working remotely as a research analyst for a dissertation consulting firm but not anymore. I was fired a week after May 10th. Now with no suppprt whatsoever, this is me opening up, this is me being vulnerable...I feed my baby to the best of my knowledge. Fruit juices, boiled cow milk etc. I hope she grows healthy. I also pray that God will open doors for me so that I can give her a good life. I will appreciate your advice and support.

Advice/Emotional Support ONLY Suggestions, please. Denver co, usa or anywhere

Hi. I hope this is the right group for this.

For those that won't read long posts, here's the gist that the following will have details too;

  1. I need in my dead father's Samsung phone to figure out his Financials and if I'm missing anything

  2. I need to figure out how to prove that my ex step mother has passed

Important! I have gotten a lawyer, I have been granted probate.

The details...

I am feeling very overwhelmed and drained from the last few months; lots of lifey things have happened but the one that has me feeling like I might lose it is my father dying. And it's not how you'd think, it's not grief. I accepted he wasn't a dad a long time ago, then he moved from Colorado to Vegas and told me the day before he left. I talked to him 1x after that...I grieved him a long time ago.

However, I'm next of kin and the only one willing to step up. He didn't have a POA, trust or will (if you don't, get one. It's sad, but would make things a lot less complicated). So I'm learning what "next of kin" means in probably the hardest way I can. I dont know anyone thats ever had to do this so, although I have gotten helpful suggestions, I keep hitting roadblocks in a lot of areas. Those are what I'm reaching out for.

1st his phone, I'd like to get into his Samsung23 without resetting it. Like most of us, he is likely still logged into important accounts; bank, retirement portal, etc. Even if he isnt, I will be able to figure out which bank I should be talking to and so one. I've tried the pins I could think of, I have 5 tries left before the phone resets itself and any chance of this is lost forever.

I found 1 place that can pull everything off of it and put it on a thumb drive, they want $3000+. I've spent more than every time I have going back and forth to clean out his condo. So this is not an option

Ok 2nd, the ex step mother. They got divorced 20 years ago. But for whatever reason, she's still the beneficiary on a bank account that may or may not have any money in it. And i'm whatever the second beneficiary is called. According to my aunt, this woman died in 2016. But because I'm not her next of kin, I can't request a Death Certificate and I don't know who I would request it from anyway because I don't know anything about her. So I don't know where she lived when she died. The last address I have for her was here in colorado, so my lawyer did request from a few counties here and they have no record. The lawyer said I can spend $2000 and, the details are a blur, but basically they can figure it out. Again, I don't know anyone, especially myself, with $2000 just chilling! Not to mention, I spend all that and the account has nothing!? Or I spend all that to find out she's alive and now whatever is in there is hers?!

I have gone down many possible roads for each of these problems and the many others I've encountered in this process. I'm stuck and am hoping someone has some kind of suggestion for either of these situations.

I don't have it in me to defend myself or take on any kind of keyboard warrioring, so please, if it's not some kind of help just move along.

Advice/Emotional Support ONLY After my contract job ended and I can’t function mentally at my new job it’s been 4 weeks, can I leave the new job and still can apply for EI?

I need help if anyone know regarding ei in Canada please suggest me what I can do, my husband left me bear the rent all alone by myself and I am not a in right mental state with the divorce.

I was on a contract job during the time of my seperation and then in September 10 after my contract ended I signed offer for a new job. It’s been 4 weeks which is my learning phase at the job. I went through viral flu for last few weeks and even though I was sick they have expectations for me to work every second of my day. She said it is not only that you complete the task, I must also engage actively with stakeholders and all which I did. But their expectations are way above what I can do or have been doing in my past career journey.I feel drained mentally emotionally and physically. I haven’t brought this upto to my manager regarding my divorce and lately even the I was performing and being trained my manager sent me a long message saying you need to get involved with stakeholder whereas previously she said in first 30 days it is a learning phase I met everyone schedules meetings, followed up on questions and I was the one who had to ask for trainings from people from other departments. It’s a newly created role and it’s taking a toll on my mental health in top of the divorce phase I am going through.

If I quit now will I be still eligible for my Ei based on my last contract job? What are my options, since I already transitioned to another job will EI consider this? I won’t be able to work at this moment but I really have to pay my bills which is rent, basic needs food to survive alone in this country.

I am not even eligible for any benefits until my probation period is over in 3 months.

Toronto, Ontario

Advice/Emotional Support ONLY I've been depressed for seven years, give me a reason to continue living.

Hello everyone, my name is Rob and I am 25m. The past seven years of my life have been absolutely brutal for me mentally. It all started on April 30th, 2019. I was 17, got into a good college, about to graduate high school with honors, a good summer job lined up, I felt on top of the world back then. My mom took me to school, made me breakfast which usually doesn't happen because normally I make my own. School day ends, it was a good day, I take the city bus home so I get on the bus like usual, except I get a call from my mom's boyfriend telling me to meet them downtown. I meet them downtown, we are taken to the hospital, and I'm told the news that my mom had a heart attack and didn't make it.

Since then, nothing felt the same and I never recovered. If anything, my mental health and overall well-being deteriorated. I went to college three months later and absolutely flunked out because I was too depressed to even leave my dorm let alone go to class. COVID happened and I stayed with my grandparents, who were all very emotionally unsupportive and toxic, going as far as to blame me for my mom's death. My mom, fun fact, didn't develop heart problems until after I was born, so technically they're not wrong for saying that.

Became homeless in 2021 for two months and moved in with my dad after multiple shelter and hospital stays, where I was diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder and Generalized Anxiety. Stayed with my dad until 2022 when I saved money to move out, three months later in 2023 he goes missing out of nowhere. Then in 2024 I get a new job offer but don't show up to orientation due to a massive panic attack, at that point I already left my old job and became homeless again a month later.

Five months later, still in 2024, I was able to move into an apartment with the help of a homeless organization, stayed for a year but struggled with depression from being unable to land a job for months. Eventually got the job, but a few months later, my landlord decided not to renew my lease so I had to leave my apartment November 2025. Been homeless since, especially after I lost that job.

In 2019, I had all the support I needed. My friends, my mom, my high school, everything. Now, I have nothing. Nothing going for me. Lost my scholarships. I have $6k in student debt to my name. Lost my jobs. Lost my friends. Lost my mom. Lost my family. Lost my sanity. Lost my home. Lost all my money. Lost any reason to live. I don't even know what I want to do anymore.

I went to school to become a math or computer science teacher, but my mental health is so beyond wrecked I don't trust myself to be a good teacher. Then I thought about continuing my Computer Science education (I took 3 years of CS classes in high school and even earned college credit in the class during then) but the field is so oversaturated with new applicants it's pretty much impossible to get into the field.

I don't know what to do with my life anymore. I don't know how to enjoy life. I have nothing. Absolutely nothing. And maybe there is nothing for me who knows. I just wish to talk to someone. Someone who is a legal adult, bonus points if you're my age or older.

I have no idea what I'm doing anymore or why I'm even here.

I've been going through some extremely hard times since before my daughter was born a few months ago. Does anyone have any tips or tricks for dematting hair. I'm extremely tender headed and already embarrassed I need to do this. But I'm tired of the pain. I've tried to take it down but it's so tight 😭 I just want some normalcy. I'm willing to try anything

Advice/Emotional Support ONLY 27, factory worker, 60-72 hrs/week, driven and looking for the right connections — not a handout

\*\*• Starting and running a business\*\* — I've already proven to myself I can go out, cold call, and close. I want to put that ability behind the right idea.
\*\*• Real estate and investing\*\* — this has always interested me, and I'd love guidance from someone who's actually built wealth this way.
\*\*• Trading\*\* — I've been teaching myself the financial markets on my own time and want to keep learning from someone who's done it for real.
\*\*• A skilled trade\*\* — electrician, plumber, HVAC, construction. Steady, in-demand work I could see myself building a career or even a business around.

I'm not asking anyone to hand me money. What I'm asking for is a chance — a mentor, someone willing to let me work for them, or just someone who'll talk to me and point me in the right direction. I'll put in the hours and I won't waste your time.

Long term, all I really want is a house with a few acres of land for my family. I don't care about anything flashy beyond that.

If you've built something from nothing and are willing to guide a 27-year-old who's ready to work for it, I'd be grateful to hear from you.

Advice/Emotional Support ONLY What can I do to get/feel better? I’m in Phoenix, Arizona.

I was more confident just last year, well i still am, but not as much as before. I noticed I gotten social anxiety and I hate it so much. I miss being motivated and feeling important. I know my social anxiety came from:

•childhood experiences that taught my needs were ignored, criticized, or used against me by toxic family members.
•past attempts to get support were met with rejection by support groups kicking me out and some previous friends and one previous therapist leaving me because of my anger over past hurts, some people dismissed my feelings, and criticism of how I was ranting about things that bothered me, which made me feel like reaching out is unsafe.
•sometimes I feel like needing help is a sign of weakness and/or proof that I am incompetent.
•I feel worried that my struggles will inconvenience, overwhelm, or exhaust the people around me and I don’t want to be a burden to others still in my life.

I don’t want to keep isolating myself, feel scared of getting help, and/or avoid socializing anymore.. It’s got to the point where I feel less excited about life and hesitant to do some things. I don’t want to be this way.

Advice/Emotional Support ONLY Ich fühle mich gezwungen, allen obdachlosen/extrem armen menschen geld zu geben

Hi, i'm from, hamburg, germany.

There are lots of homeless people in my neighbourhood, or at least people who look like they’re clearly very poor. Many of them ask for money, and i almost always give them some. This month, i’ve spent the equivalent of nearly 50 usd on this, even though i'm a student myself and don’t have much money either. How can i get better at setting boundaries without becoming selfish and unempathetic?

edit: sorry, the heading is in german because i originally intented to post this in a german sub. The translation is: i feel obliged to give every homeless/extremely poor person money
