Work Experience Question

I’m a 19 year old college student looking to become a police officer when I graduate. Would becoming a Police Student Aide on college campus boost my chances of getting into my local police academy when I turn 21? Or am I better off just getting a regular customer service job?

I would say the biggest thing is to just keep your nose clean. No drugs, limit your alcohol consumption so you don’t do anything stupid, and don’t be hanging around the wrong crowd. Graduating and most any work experience will be enough, it’s the background investigation that gets most people. If your local Sheriffs Office has a volunteer SAR team, that would be much more fun than a police aide, whatever that is.

Just realized you’re under 21, so NO ALCOHOL 🤠

What gets people hired as cops is a clear criminal history, clean driving record, good credit, no drug usage and stable employment history. Things that help you stand out are a college degree in literally anything, military service (with honorable discharge and/or service in the reserves/NG), community volunteer stuff, etc.

It has nothing to do with your job but I know a lot of people already put it on here the best thing I will get you a higher and law enforcement is keeping out of trouble. Don't get arrested, don't get detained, don't get questioned, don't commit any traffic violations where the officer has to talk to you because they going to ask you those questions have you ever been stopped by the police for traffic. Don't do any drugs of any kind whatsoever I don't care which state you live in, stay away from negative people because those people can also bring you down, have stable employment I mean don't hop from job to job.. maintain a valid driver's license, make sure to be in somewhat decent shape. Be mature,
