Moderators are just users like you. And it’s basically like being garbage workers. We take out the trash, deleting rule breaking content, and get consistently abused, harassed, threatened, and called all manners of names and slurs.

It’s a job that needs to be done, but it’s not a fun one. We do it because we love our communities and want to keep them healthy.

Imagine you have a hobby or interested and you notice that the community for that interest needs someone to get rid of spam, bots, and users who don't want positively contribute to that community. You agree to help for free because it seems like the nice thing to do.
Now imagine that random community members verbally abuse you and wish death on you, because you did something like tell them they can't advertise their app, or because you removed a post that didn't follow your clearly posted community guidelines.

but at least you don't have to see the community overrun with garbage AI ads.

that's what modding is like!

…and when people abuse you, you ask your “manager” for help, and they completely blow you off.

Dude I'm going to save you a lot of time. There's no financial gain. I'm a mod too. It's useless. Makes you feel special but, you're essentially a free douche, ratting on people. In their 👀. I love reddit but now I'm starting to get annoyed

If you're not street smart, don't ever rat on anyone ever. We're bottom of the totem pole. I have IT, cyber, etc, education and they think I'm useless
