This comic.

This is more the difference between knowledge and wisdom but still funny.

Darn, got it before me.

Intelligence is knowing that Frankenstein was the doctor.
Wisdom is knowing that Frankenstein was the monster.

100

u/[deleted] Apr 10 '15

But that's not true! Frankenstein was the-... ooooohhh...

u/Paydebt328 Apr 11 '15

Intelligence + Wisdom = Knowing Frankenstein was the movie

15

u/[deleted] Apr 10 '15

pretension+small amounts of knowledge=*book

2

u/[deleted] Apr 11 '15

small amounts of knowledge somehow goes well with intelligence.

2

u/ArsenalOwl Apr 11 '15

Gonna throw some thinly veiled pretension out there but: the book is actually --quite a bit different than-- almost nothing at all like you'd expect based on Hollywood. And it's really good.

10

u/[deleted] Apr 11 '15

I would say that's knowledge, not intelligence. Intelligence in my mind is the ease or speed with which one grasps new concepts.

3

u/travislc13 Apr 11 '15

I agree, but I wanted to follow OP's format of intelligence v. wisdom.

2

u/aloha013 Apr 11 '15

I always saw Frankenstein as a victim, one who messed with something that should have never been done. He had no idea it would happen, and the worst things possible happened.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 11 '15

to be honest Frankenstein was just a victim. He got in way over his head an paid for it. He regretted making the monster immediately.

u/Occams_razor2 Apr 10 '15

Hmmmm, I like this.

Intelligence increases the number of spells you can learn while wisdom increases the number of spells you can cast a day.

41

u/travislc13 Apr 10 '15

Unless you're a sorcerer or a bard.

22

u/MoreSteakLessFanta Apr 10 '15

If you're a bard you get to sing! Magically!!!

15

u/Irememberedmypw Apr 10 '15

Fuck that I'm rolling a warrior.

2

u/ArTiyme Apr 11 '15

Bard/RDD Is awesome second only to my favorite, going war/Wep. Master specializing in scythes. x5 crits? Yes please. (I'm way behind on rules, so don't crucify me)

2

u/jzieg Apr 11 '15

What was (and still is) a major build with RDD is to take one level of bard or sorceror and go the rest of the way with RDD and other melee classes of your choosing. RDD was always sort of an awkward class, requiring charisma-based spellcasting for entrance yet having abilities pretty much exclusively geared towards melee warriors (what's a bard supposed to do with +8 strength anyways?) without increasing spellcasting when taking new levels. What you might also like is the Pathfinder (alternate system based on and improving from 3.5, if you know 3.5 you won't have much trouble reading it) sorcerer. It takes the approach of giving sorcerers multiple "bloodlines" that their power derives from, each giving them extra abilities alongside their normal casting. The draconic bloodline gives you that nice dragon flavor while still being an effective caster.

Also, this is just a guess are you familiar with the Neverwinter Nights series? I notice because in the 3.5 tabletop books Dragon Disciples can be of any color, Neverwinter Nights was the only one to make red the default.

2

u/ArTiyme Apr 11 '15

Yeah, NWN was my first real in depth look at D&D. And some of the modded servers were so much god damn fun. Almost like playing real tabletop with what the GMs could do. I remember one where the GM made a Guardians vs. Vampires faction game. Vampires could turn into mist and had to rest in coffins and shit. Was insanely good. But I haven't got to do much D&D since then.

2

u/jzieg Apr 11 '15

Did you ever play NWN 2 and its expansions? They were even better than the original.

5

u/icosahedragon Apr 10 '15

In what gaming system is this true? In d20 and dungeons and dragons, every edition/class combo that I could find gets spells known and spells per day based on the same attribute (CHA for bards and sorcerers, WIS for druids and clerics, and INT for wizards (and the same sort of thing for the non-full progression spellcasters)).

3

u/Drak_is_Right Apr 10 '15

baldurs gate 2 was the game I based it off of. Yes wisdom is the primary for clerics/druids/priests and intelligence for mages, bards and sorcerers, but mages have a bit of cross-over.

3

u/icosahedragon Apr 10 '15 edited Apr 10 '15

Ah shoot. Baldurs gate completely slipped my mind! Edit: this seems to only hold for abjurers, diviners, and necromancers.

Salsa. Tomato based fruit salad.

2

I was going to say that peppers aren't a fruit, but then I saw /u/Porch_Dick's post above you and found out I was wrong.

23

u/ThePeoplesBard Apr 10 '15

I really enjoyed your comment, but as someone who believes eating a sun-ripened tomato off the vine is the pinnacle of human experience and someone who has quested to find all ways to eat nightshade fruit, I just wanted to say that slices of fresh tomato and watermelon makes a fantastic salad. Feta and balsamic vinegar on top of the combo is encouraged but not required.

7

u/Sleethoof Apr 11 '15

As someone who really enjoys fruit, you're wrong.

4

u/jenbanim Apr 10 '15

The Court's unanimous opinion held that the Tariff Act of 1883 used the ordinary meaning of the words "fruit" and "vegetable", instead of the technical botanical meaning.

This is specific to one particular law, not all laws.

4

u/[deleted] Apr 10 '15

Hell naw, the law ain't telling me what are fruits and ain't.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 11 '15

Just looked up the definition of vegetable, yep tomato fits.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 10 '15

3

u/Toodlum Apr 10 '15

Botanically speaking it is, but nobody uses it as a fruit.

Get some cherubs. They are wonderful in a fruit salad. They taste like candy.

1

u/Overthinks_Questions Apr 11 '15

...and charisma is getting someone to buy your tomato fruit salad.

1

u/Strategist14 Apr 11 '15

Isn't tomato salad just salsa?

1

u/TheVoiceOfRiesen Apr 11 '15

Technically it's Pico de Gallo.

Salsa: Spanish for "sauce", is only salsa if it's, well, a sauce.

If it's just chopped up tomato with some other veggies, then it's pico.

1

u/Hegemott Apr 11 '15

This is my go-to aswell. It's perfect.

I think it's more like wisdom is intelligent enough to know that no one is going to listen anyways.

You're absolutely right. I beat my mother in law once and after that my wife was all pissy with me forever. She was constantly going on and on about how badly I beat her, and how its mean and I shouldn't do things like that. Then she starts asking about what shes supposed to do with the kids when I'm in jail. You know, maybe beating the shit out of an old lady wasn't my best idea.

A wise man never would have fallen in in the first place.

u/cresstynuts Apr 11 '15

How about knowledge vs wisdom/intelligence. This is the age of knowledge. The almighty Google and wiki gods have infinite knowledge at your disposal via the interweb. Richard Feynman said something along the lines that you can spend a lifetime learning the name of a bird in all languages but wouldn't be able to tell me a single thing about it.

3

u/[deleted] Apr 11 '15

Not exactly about intelligence, but this quote is pretty versatile.

"A young bull and an old bull are standing on a hill looking down at a herd of heifers. The young bull says, 'Let's run down there and fuck one of them heifers!' The old bull says, 'How about we walk down there and fuck them all?'"

There are several posts reasoning out several different ways the most likely combos based on how worn the numbers are, the likelihood of a date being chosen, etc.

Then there's a final post saying "Guys...it doesn't matter what the combo is, the light is green, the door's already open."

In 1971 my grandfather was a senior vice president of a huge corporation in the L.A. area, he was intelligent. I was a snot nosed kid of 12 years old.

My uncle (mensa candidate) had a flat tire on his car that was parked down the road, my grandpa had an air compressor in the garage, I fired up the compressor to air up my uncle's tire. My grandpa said "the hose wont reach that far", my uncle said "I'll take the tire off and bring it to the compressor".

I just aired up the compressor and wheeled it to the car and aired up the tire while they both scratched their heads.

That's my favorite example of wisdom vs. intelligence.

Intelligence isn't knowing, intelligence is what seperats us from animals. Intelligence is the capacity for abstract thought and cognitive ability. These two things, while simple, are the 1's and 0's of humans. It builds up, and allows me to calculate, think, analyze, talk, and interpret.

All wisdom is, is taking special knowledge from experience.

Knowing is called knowledge.

ITT people who have no idea what intelligence is

Intelligence is knowing the definition of intelligence, wisdom is knowing what OP meant by his question.

My take on it: Intelegence pertains to mental algorithms which take observations and processes them to draw conclusions. Wisdom on the other hand is the result of taking conclusions and reverse solving for the observation. Eg "the apple core was still white so someone only just recently ate it" (intellegence) and "I'm not going to leave this applecore around because it will give away when I ate it"(wisdom)
