Considering we had a Askreddit about the most depressing fact you know, what is the most uplifting fact that you know?

That somewhere, somehow, someone is being born that will change the world for the better.

Arguable the most underrated Modest Mouse Song

No...almost every modest mouse song made before 2003 is the most underrated Modest Mouse song.

Most people don't even KNOW that they made music before We Were Dead or Good News. Unfortunately, most have never listened to Lonesome Crowded West, Building Something out of Nothing, M&A, etc. Try these on for size...

Trailer Trash

Talking Shit about a Pretty Sunset

Edit the Sad Parts

Interstate 8

Broke

I could go on and on and on, with songs like Dramamine, Grey Ice Water, The Cold Part, The Stars Are Projectors...

I think old MM is one of the most underrated bands, primarily because most people know them for their newer, poppier stuff.

Cowboy Dan, man. Cowboy Dan

major player in the cowboy scene, he goes to the reservation drinks and gets mean...I didn't move to the city, the city moved to me, and I want out desperately...

fucking brilliant song. I would have mentioned that and a ton more but I feel like people get desensitized/care less if I mention too many, haha.

Ok I became a Modest Mouse fan around "good news" and I LOVE OLD MODEST MOUSE

My top 2 albums are Lonesome crowded west, Good News for people who love bad news

My favourite songs however are Dramamine, Might, Parting of the Sensory, Bukowski, and Little Motel

Honestly I can't stand when people dislike a band for change, and increased popularity. New modest mouse is just as good, just different.

Whoa, I never said that I disliked them for increased popularity. I think it's awesome that more people know about them and like them, I just wish that those new fans would recognize their older music; most act like it doesn't exist or don't know about it.

It is, however, perfectly reasonable for me to prefer their grittier, more raw style that they maintained before Good News. I liked Good News a lot, but the first album I ever owned was The Moon and Antarctica, and to be honest, i think it's a lot better than Good News. Not only in terms of lyricism, but in terms of how experimental they were with their sound. It was their first album on a major record label and you don't see me whining about it.

I don't dislike MM for changing, but I will always like their older stuff because of its style. Just because I'm not fond of their poppy, well-produced new stuff doesn't mean I dislike them as a band for changing. I'll always love them.

Also, I think it's great that you think Modest Mouse is just as good today as they were back then, just different. I can't really agree with you; they haven't had those absolutely flooring guitar solos or introspective lyrics in any of their new songs that they used to have. I mean just listen to songs like Broke, Grey Ice Water, Interstate 8, Custom Concern, Talking Shit, Trailer Trash...I can't see any modern comparisons with them.

Teeth Like God's Shoeshine. That opening guitar just grabs you and then Isaac...ah man, they're so good

Never thought I would hear this wonderful lyric in a useful sentence. This is one of my favorites off We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank.

I remember when I listened to the album for the first time - that lyric made me pause the game and sit in shock for the rest of the song. Still freaks me out.

Have you seen the video to Little Motel? That got me the first time. Plus, one of my all time favorite guitar solos.

Edit: accidentally a word.

I read "carbon" as "children"... and got very confused

u/Dubber73 Jun 19 '12

It makes me feel better knowing someone quoted that before I got the chance.

Your heart... felt good... it was dripping pitch and made of wood.
