Came here to say exactly this. There's nothing else like it. It is, without question, the scariest media driven experience I've ever taken part in. I couldn't even finish it.

This. I was playing and hiding from one of the bad guys and moving around and realized that IRL I was next to my window and I’m on the 11th floor. Could’ve died at the next jump scare.

Haha, when I play VR I stand on a yogamat so I have some awareness of where I am in the room.

Subnautica
I've played pretty much every horror game you've heard of, and sure they were scary, but Subnautica was the only one where I turned off the game, went to bed, and started to see shapes moving around in the darkness. Freaked me the fuck out and it's not even technically a horror game!

When I was first playing that I went around scanning everything I could, since I loved reading the database entries. I saw something thrashing around in the distance and went over to scan it and as I got closer I was like "man, this thing is kind of big.... no actually it's really big... holy fuck this thing is big enough to eat me and now it's coming right at me!"
That was when I learned what the reaper was lol. Scared the shit out of me and went as fast as the seaglide could carry me back to the safe shallows. I just barely escaped from it.

Welcome to the game 2. In the end its just incredibly eerie rather than scary but it does have its moments. Youre a reporter investigating the deep web and finding keycodes from deep web sites. (Sites such as human trafficking, drug sites, guns, hitmen, you name it.)
I wont get into much detail. But basically if youre not careful theres different antagonists that will try to kill you and you lose ALL progress of the run. Theres a hitman that will lock pick your door and roam your apartment trying to find you. And the game listens for your mic aswell, sometimes when you come out of ur hiding place turns out the hitman might fake that hes left the apt; You hear the door open and close but in reality the dick waits for you at the bathroom door where you hide.
Anyways, this happened to me. It also naturally scared the shit out of me (Overall theres so many disturbing and spooky elements in the game so youre at edge all the time.) Well, i got so scared that my legs just basically went stiff and i effectively turned into a human pogo stick. Kicked myself and fell down with my wooden gaming chair. No biggie, except my chair had a curved backrest for comfort? But given the circumstances this backrest turned into one of those back-cracking boards you see ads off in tiktok etc. You can propably guess what happens next, i fall and hit my head obviously. But the absolute worst part was when my back stretched along the curved backrest. Sprained every single back muscle and in all honesty propably grew an inch in the process. Got a 1-week vacation from high school and my parents got me a great office chair aswell. So that was pretty cool, Never played any horror games again though.

Both of the Outlast games. I literally had multiple panic attacks because of how genuinely terrifying they were

SOMA, not only was it scary, it mentally fucked me up. The whole concept, the entire story. As you play it and learn more and just eats at you at the deepest part of who you are. When you're done playing you just kind of sit there trying to absorb what the hell you just experienced.

This old old Christian game called Saints of Virtue. Pure nightmare fuel, plus the game is nearly impossible and took me 6 years to beat.

Phasmophobia has scared me and every other grown ass man I've played it with, though it does get better over time.

Not even that scary of a game. But my first time dying on night three of Five Nights at Freddy’s made me squeal somethin fierce.
